So! I have the Tower of Eyes, and almost all the Connections needed for the Salon, and plenty of money to get an Orphanage. So... which should I get? Can any clever soul lay out the pros and cons of either choice?

Best ways to grind Society/Bohemians are in the Shuttered Palace and are nowhere as effective. The wiki notes the Rookery password as giving 25 cp of Connected:Urchins per action (75 cp for 3 actions), which means that after the initial grind the "Attend and be erudite" option in the Palace becomes more effective (33 cp Connected: Society per action, so 99 for 3, no costs attached, and you'll get the Persuasive cp - as little as it matters here). Grinding Bohemian is slightly less effective, with 22 cp per action, but again, it costs nothing and it gives you a bit of Connected: the Duchess in the process (which I guess is good for entering the Court?).

I haven't considered that. I still haven't bought the Handsome Townhouse. Is it that annoying and useless in the end?
The card has an option that gives 2 scraps, there are definitely worse cards to have in your deck.

So is a Salon worth it? I have accidentally managed to get the requirements for one, so am now considering it.

Seeker of Names is a... being with an obsession. They're willing to accept all invitations. One who seeks to know all that is and may be. One who dances in the silence of the void. One whose fantasies make the reality come alive.

A Salon is a very good MW engine. And you can grind the requirements to build your scheme easily using the Affair of the Box item rewards and the Shuttered Palace connection boosters.
Other than RP reasons, the Orphanage only really has one strong thing going for it, the Fatelocked companion you can buy there.

I did it with an alt and you keep the Laconic Prodigy

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

I can verify. I started with a Salon, switched to an Orphanarium, decided I was tired of nuking my Urchins connection and my purse, and switched back. The lovable little scamp is still with me today, except when she's committing improbably precocious crimes.
