Hello all! We asked you what you'd like to see Kickstarted, we trailed this, and here it is:

  • Sunless Sea is an exploration and trading game for PC set in the rich, story-fueled universe of Fallen London. Take the helm of your customised steamship and set sail for the uncharted reaches of the Neath, where the map changes every time you play, and every officer in your crew has their own story. Our influences include include: FTL; Strange Adventures in Infinite Space; Taipan; Sid Meier’s Pirates; Don’t Starve; Elite; roguelikes; the Crimson Permanent Assurance; immrama.

    You can sign up for more info here. The Kickstarter opens in September: we need your help to get it funded, and we're also very interested in hearing what you'd like to see in it.

    We're hoping this will be the way of the future. Having to split time between client projects and Fallen London - though some of those client projects are brilliant - has made it very hard to focus on extending the FL lore and stories, and this way we can kill two bats with one stone.

    Whether we do or we don't, that's still upward of a hundred and fourteen thousand US dollars - coming up on a hundred and twenty-three thousand of our poor AUD. That's well over double what The Silver Tree made in the full month - not to mention more money than I've ever seen in one place. FBG have a lot to be proud of!

    Paul and I both like DIshonored, and Liam, our front-end engineer who's doing most of the Unity coding, is a big fan. I think it would be fair to call it parallel evolution rather than inspiration, but there is a kinship between the SS and Dishonoured mythologies, in the way the sea is both menace and promise, in the filthy glory of the technology, in the possibilities of night.

    I wouldn't hold your breath! Because you'll be holding it for like eleven hours and twenty minutes! And that'd probably lead to asphyxiation and or death! Which would be bad!

    When your names are inscribed on that notional basalt monument, Miss Strangeweather's will be at the top: which means the beachcombers of Whither will find her first. My condolences.

    Oh well, I got 14, I think.

    Now, who got seven?

    Seven is the number of backers. Seven the contributions to the game. Seven the pledges for the Panther. Seven light the way to the game.

    (I napped through the start of the 'starter too - long morning spent digitising 1880s property records! But I think I got in in the early teens or so.)

    A hard refresh of http://sunlessseagame.com/ showed a new 'star' at the right and a new green button on the left. Nice!

    Well, that's 20% done already - and I'm sure we'll be seeing more as the word gets out!

    You frighten me. I'm taking away your parser. Please select one of the following:
    • Do the weasel war dance;
    • Send rats to fellow players, dead or alive in accordance with my opinion of their forum avatar;
    • Review a Storynexus game for IFComp;
    • Write an anthropophagic maritime mystery, put it in a bottle with an empassioned plea for help and some blood-like stains, and cast it into the Thames.

    For what it's worth, my opinion of your forum avatar is that it looks like a crocodile with carrots for a mouth looming out of darkness.

    I opt to do all four. I just did them. Right now. I did it.

    Quick, someone give me £1000 so I can put this in Sunless Sea.

    Also, I am totally not insulted IGNORANT HEATHEN and to show IT'S ICARUS I harbour no hard feelings, I'll be sure to send you a Surprising Package YOU BLOCKISH MEACOCK.

    Funded! Hella funded! £100,803 worth of funded! That makes Zubmarines and Tattoos as well as the actual game. Everyone's happy.
    Except for Alexis and Liam I guess but that's what you get for making promises on the Internet!!!

    One cannot truly explore the Unterzee until one has sampled (and by sampled i mean eaten) everything on it and under it. Sea creature, rubbery man, clay man, hallucinatory lizard, crewmember. Try some of all of it!
