A hard refresh of http://sunlessseagame.com/ showed a new 'star' at the right and a new green button on the left. Nice!

Just one thing is probably missing from the kickstarter: a conversion rate from the Grand Powerful British Pound to other currency like euro and dollars was mentioned in a thread yonks ago but it doesn't actually seem to be on the Kickstarter itself. That'd probably help encourage people unfamiliar with the whole exchange rate thing to part with their money, maybe.
Then again maybe it is actually in the Kickstarter page somewhere after all and I'm just extremely myopic.

Well, that's 20% done already - and I'm sure we'll be seeing more as the word gets out!

Kickstarter seems to take issue with Maestro debit cards. Even though it has no issue with Mastercard. Even though they're issued by the same company

kickstarter why

It's a really, really promising start. Still a very long way to go though, and the first day always attracts the most funding. We're gonna keep on pushing. But all of you who've contributed: thank you!

There's a first update and a piece of concept art going out to backers now.

Does Kickstarter actually take debit cards? They only mention credit cards but if they do I'll have to see where my finances are at the end of the month. Still not sure if I can actually afford it.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Kickstarter will apparently take Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards. I don't know how to haphazardly jam anything else into the system, if it's at all possible. Maybe i'll just put the money in a letter and send it to Kickstarter HQ, to be ignored at their convenience.

Quoth their "Start" page: "Please note that anyone, anywhere (with a major credit or debit card) can pledge to Kickstarter projects." Also, I've backed prior projects with debit cards, so, yeah, they definitely work.

I applaud how you went about this KS. With BELOW, which is a delight to beta test, it came too quickly after the first project and it kicked off just before Black Friday in the States. There may be additional factors you hit upon in your own post-mortem, but you clearly turned that into a springboard to make subsequent projects a success. And this =will= be a success if only because I'm not ending years of lurking for nothing, dammit.

Thanks I missed that somehow, still have too think about how much I can realistically afford.

The Kickstarters in US$ can also be paid with an Amazon.com account, which is rather handy. Shame they don't support it in GBP.

Have any of you fine folks played any of the Escape Velocity games? They were my favorite games back in the day, and might still be today. They had simple and fun gameplay with lots of exploration, a huge amount of prose, and meaningful narrative choices. It's been a long time since I've found a game with that sort of combination, and I'm really hoping that Sunless Sea will be the next one. Now I just need to decide how much I want to pledge...

The recommended pledge amount is "every penny you call your own, and some you don't" If you're short on pennies, may i suggest:
    • Selling a limb
    • Selling an organ
    • Selling two limbs
    • Selling all your limbs
    • Selling your soul
    • Selling your computer
    • Selling all your organs
    • All of the above.

Disclaimer: I am not an official Failbetter marketing official. But I think it's close enough to what they'd ask, and also fairly reasonable at that.

I'm looking forward to my Failbetter tattoo. I'm assuming Paul will be designing it.

Alexis, if you ever want to spread your wings, you have a fine career ahead of you as a TV voice-over artist.

    Payment providers.

As a website, you don't want to interface directly with Mastercard as a company, you want a middleman. It may seem counter-intuitive, but it scales brtter and allows you to spend your resources doing what you want to be doing, instead of ensuring you're up to date with x.y.z+/-2 version of Mastercard's API, and also Visa's, and Paypal's, and Worldpay's.

So you contract with a Payment Provider, build one payment provider framework (or integrate theirs, depending on your requirements) and let them handle the day-to-day minutiae and problem management that would normally require a staff of 3 full timers to do.

Due to that other stuff, contracts are specific for payment type and locale, which may make Mastercard payment type viable, but not Maestro in your locale.

That was an explanation roughly six million times more educational than I was expecting. Thanks!

Still though now I need to try and find some other way to make kickstarter give Failbetter my money. Might have to buy a prepaid Visa card or something.

It's absolutely depressing right now to still depend on your father's -or in my case mother's- goodwill to be able to help fund this, and I can't. So I'll do my best by spreading word about it.

I got a question, if you get the stretch goal of having zubmarines, zeppelins, or both, will having one exclude you from the other? For example, let's say I have a zubmarine, does this stops me from getting a zeppelin or a regular boat?

Also, do zubmarines have to go all the while underwater?
