Has anyone managed to raise Archeologist past 1? I'm keen to move on from Thieves Caches, but I can't see how to get Archaeologist 2 - I've tried Seeking Curios but to no avail yet, although the options there do change every time so I'm hoping an appropriate one will pop up - knowing what to look for would help.

How does one get the first point in Archaeologist?

Collect 10 supplies, and once you've done so, there should be an option in Set Out on an Expedition that costs whispered secrets, cryptic clues, and something else I can't remember at this point. It's not an expedition, and it will give you Archaeologist 1.

Confrontation happens when you have 10 rival's progress~ it is not a "MUST" storylet like unpredictable treasure but it locks you out of any other option.

The Traditions of the Forgotten Quarter option under picking an Expedition increases Archaeologist to 2: It costs 1000 Whispered Secrets, 250 Cryptic Clues and 1 Tale of Terror, and you need to do it twice.

I did it twice, I'm not at Archaeologist 2 and the option has gone. Have you managed to get it?

[edit] Just got a Searing Enigma from the thieve's cache! Praise be to the RNG!

There's no "Traditions of the Forgotten Quarter" option for me. Does it only appear at certain Airs values?

It's not regular in the fate-locked area; I've run through it three times and have seen no sign of a skull. I'm curious how the guy who got two skulls in one pass managed that.

I've done fate locked twice, didn't get one.

I gave the wrong url, should have been http://fallenlondon.storynexus.com/a/fountainofnames - and yeah it gives 10 supplies - usual one time per account use.
EDIT - and, I have just realised, has been sent out to everyone by email...

So-o what should I be doing to get the Route? I haven't got any cards relating to the storyline with you-know-who for ages.

  •
If your Intimate with a Secular Missionary is between 7 and 9, there's a card with a couple options on it. All those options increase Intimate with a Secular Missionary by one level. At 10, there's another card that requires either Intimate with a Revolutionary Firebrand 10 or spending 15 Fate.

If you're impatient, you can automatically trigger either of the above cards from the "Write some letters" storylet in your Lodgings at the cost of one Favourable Circumstances. The access code that just went around gave some folks one for free, or you can buy one for 5 Fate.
Yeah - I'd say that wandering and seeing the sights represents a quicker path to skulls than running expeditions, so long as you can keep your nightmares down.

I was surprised when I tallied the total actions. I would have guessed double the amount... It felt far harder when I was doing it, but the numbers tell me I had an easier time of it than I thought.

I've also been keeping track of the card 'The Correspondence Savages Your Dreams' and the option which nets you Maniac's Prayers has a high rate of rare success. I've successfully scribbled down my madness 115 times and 25 of those were rare (20 Maniac's Prayers instead of the usual 10), so that's 21.74%. I would have guessed half that number, though; the seemingly long length of time between drawing the card made me think the experience worse than actuality.

Moral: Pain and boredom skew your perception of reality! :P
