About this option:
A memory...There was a painting.
Long story short, I've been grinding those painting events like a madman- I am JUUUUUUST shy of being able to choose the "a memory..." option- if I choose something else, will it all have been for nothing, or can I use all of that effort at another time, for another purpose?

The most significant reward from the Secrets Framed in Gold storyline comes from the cards- the option here is mostly for flavor.
After picking something in "A complex case", you'll advance to another storylet where you're called upon to make a critical decision. One option on that storylet takes you back to this one, but if you make a choice and advance the story, you can never return here.
