Is it only me, or there is a strong difference in the availability of second chance items for the characteristics?
I always have plenty of Persuasive and Watchful second chances, but Shadowy's seem to be ultra rare...

Let me see... Sudden Insights come from cards three at a time. Surprise Attacks and Warning Notes come one at a time. Confident Smiles don't really have a card of their own, unless you count the Good Deeds Subtle option. On the other hand, Confident Smiles are (off the top of my head) the most common Second Chance reward for other cards and storylets - there are heaps of them to be had during the Feast of the Rose.
(One might also wonder: is there any remaining source for the Candle Second Chances, apart from the Anticandles from the Museum of Mistakes? Does anyone in the game still have a Listening Candle? If so, what happens if they also have a Sudden Insight and a Letter of Recommendation?)

I believe that there is at least one fairly common card that will give you two confident smiles. I've never seen an option that gives multiple Surprise Attacks and Warning Notes.

Additionally rumour has it that the lion's share of those souls was from a theft of The Brass Embasy itself. We are quite certain that this portents nothing ominous for him. It seems to me there's something on the frequency too... I have no problems collecting Sudden insights, Surprise attacks, Warning notes and Confident smiles, but I'm ALWAYS short of Hastily written notes!
