For those with Shadowy over 80, you know what I'm talking about. Anyone have any idea roughly what level of casing I need to get to have better than a purple chance?

The final checks for this venture are based on Shadowy, not Casing.

You need casing 10 to unlock it and it tests shadowy, according to a wiki the difficulty is as follows: 117 - High-risk 119 - chancy 121 - modest 123 - low-risk 125+ - straightforward
Also note that a succes does not reset your casing, but merely reduces it (I think someone said they had verified that it drops 32 CP, can't remember which thread though). It also seems that you will still get the item if even if you fail and without even raising your suspicion, however, it leaves you with a significantly bigger drop in casing. So even if it's almost impossible it may still be an easy way of acquiring small amounts of the sought item, though bigger grinds should propably be left for later (grinding for top-tire lodgings and similar big grinds are best left to when you're almost out of content anyway). edited by Malt Jones on 2/23/2012

Wow, I'm a long way away from that. Thanks for the help.
EDIT: Just tried it and got a single item for the one I was going for. Still not a bad way to get the Antique Mysteries for my Key to the Bethlehem, even if I have next to no shot at making the check (I just got to 81 Shadowy). edited by ApolloFireweaver on 2/23/2012

That said, even passing that check only gets you one Mystery, so you're not missing out on much. Enjoy the bonus CP for Shadowy.

I too failed my attempt (Shadowy 85ish) but received 5 items and used a second chance for my trouble. I think that will be my bigger issue, I'd rather not burn through my second chances when I'm essentially guaranteed to fail.... *ponders*

Probably either souls or brandy. Incidentally, succeeding at the Antique Mysteries theft still only gives one.

I believe that passing or failing the Shadowy check doesn't affect how many items you receive, but how much Casing you lose. So, if you only need one Mystery (for example,) the check doesn't matter. If you want to get a very high Casing and then pull off several thefts, then passing the check makes for a better deal.
