It's onety-one of the oneth, two-onety-one! And you know what that means - questions!

Hi! Recently I've decided to take the plunge and try to grind up to renown 50 for both constables and criminals. Collecting the scrap for the other materials for the treasures options, and liquidating everything for wealth seems out of my price range. I'm hitting my biggest problem with stat requirements. The highest I can get my shadowy to is up to+72 right now. I could change my destiny to boost that to +77, but anything else would require more ambition items than the one I own. Am I stuck just waiting for moods from now on?

Yep, at some point you need to wait for moods to raise renown further. You can check https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/Shadowy_Items and https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/Dangerous_Items to see if there's items that you've missed that you could get, but the stat requirements are the biggest hurdle to raising renown. (Note - Constables uses Dangerous and not Shadowy.)

I'd say don't pay Fate to change your destiny or ambition - just take your time, collect items for wealth or draw cards for moods. Once you have a mood in hand, wait to get up to 7 favors, then use the mood, do a renown bump, and then move on. You'll eventually get there.

Social invitations of all kinds welcome! Deadly sparring, plant battles, etc. I can also send sips of cider.

Amalgamate already discribed the right way. Im doing actually the same. Just take it as a passive long-term grind, you cant really speed up this without spending fate. Optimizing your deck by getting rid of some lodging cards etc helps, but dont expect to much.

If you want to finish this on a faster way, check the wiki for endgame grinds. It will eat up all your actions but allows you to to get this done in way lesser time. Traveling between london and Jericho already offers 2.5 EPA, earning the necessary 10k Echoes would therefore require 4k actions. Thats the base line right now.

Besides that, keep in mind, that the renown 50 option also isn't that cheap, because of the required actions/favours and the other stuff you have to buy.

Today's pre-noon maintenance seemed to last far longer than usual and came with a static teaser about something exciting being added. Any clues what that was? Doesn't appear to be changes to the social actions and I'm far from caught up with the latest railway content…

The Board and Furnace both say that the Railway extension will be coming on the 19th (ie, next tuesday).

I didn't spot anything obvious in the lab, either.

Edit: probably related to https://community.failbettergames.com/topic28274-the-clay-highwayman.aspx (I tend to keep banditry low, so I'm unlikely to see this until well after others)

Sips of cider and Parabolan Kittens available to all (PM in game).
Usually happy to trade scandal/suspicion reductions; occasionally interested in some other social interactions (ask first), but has the opinion of "pass the cat" you'd expect from a person who pushed Connected: Duchess up to a leap year's worth of days....

The wiki's pages on planning the next route has been updated. It appears some editor on the wiki has developer-level access on content that has not been made available to everyone yet.

In some cases, it might be possible to boost Renown twice with a single mood. I was able to double-boost Hell recently. It requires planning and investment, and may not be available for all factions.

Constables is a faction where it should be feasible. If you have a Hound of Heaven and an Undercover Identity already lined up when you activate your mood, you should be able to turn those in, make a second identity, turn it, and be back at 7 favors before the Mood expires.

I'm not sure shenanigans like that are feasible for Criminal favors. Maybe if you save up multiple favor cards in your hand, and burn some coffee to run through Affair of the Box multiple times.

Haven't seen Mr Sacks cards in a couple of days, and still only at 6 -- is the story pinned somewhere already?

Apparently, this is not the case. My fellow editor mentioned that it was a brief mistake on the developer's part.

Does the railway venture "starting card" *only* appear when you have a tier 2 profession? My second alt, who has seen the card many many times last year (same as my original character) but didn't meet some requirements yet, has not seen that "starting card" in *months* (after finally meeting the necessary requirements - and also advancing to a T3 profession). Is this why? Excluding T3 people would seem strange to me... Or is it just (bad) luck of the draw?

(btw sorry I was somehow unable to post this on a Railway thread.)

I believe it is related to your POSI status and your stats, not your profession. My character is T3 and got the card. I imagine most people are by the time they get it. Maybe you have just been unlucky.

Or maybe you are just forgetful like me. I posted a similar query a while back because the card would not show, only to discover I had already received it, clicked on it and started the story, then forgot that I had done so after a short break from the game. Thus I found myself cursing the RNG and angrily waiting for a card that would never come, due to my own stupidity. smile

That's a good point but I already checked for my forgetfulness ^^ (and no I hadn't started the venture but forgotten - though that would have been in the realm of possibility!)
I suppose I just might be unlucky then with this alt. You can't remove it permanently from your hand after all, can you? (I haven't discarded it permanently by accident or anything??)

I definitely discarded it on one of my alts and then drew it again later.

For the special newspaper issue about the bone market, what type of copy is needed? I went and got all the different types of tips I could, then started making a new issue, but the branches seem to be the same as always.
