I might be overestimating my clout here in the Failbetter forums, but would you all kindly place anything about the ventures at Ealing under this thread? The "Railway is Here" is getting really crowded, especially with people posting things about skeleton-building there too.

That said, there had been just-recent updates to Bone Market content - very good updates. Therefore, please post anything about the entertainingly cadaverous and osseous scamming in the Bone Market thread.

There is so much new content!!!
I’m very glad we can get all the new bones without killing the animals.

Oh wow... fellow wiki editors had been editing the wiki for the past several hours, and it is a whole lot of stuff! Also, the bear with honey-glazed eyes and a fez. Hilarious.

Hopefully there's some more lore behind the Neathy ursine - like the Bears were prototypes of the Tigers.

Yes, i would also say that selling skeletons at the bone market is the main grindable source, especially as it is now possible to buy the chest base for jade

Alright, some of my fellow editors have gone into the revision of the butchery practice rather early.

If they don't have spare characters to get down to bloody business, or they don't want to do that, I will have my characters do those.

Also, prior to this, I have wondered if Failbetter is aware that there may be emotionally sensitive vegans among players. Well, I wonder no more.

Honey

Mazed

Bear.

(Golden-bordered opportunity card.)

Edit: If I'm understanding the follow-up correctly, this leads into the Dangerous equivalent for Scholar of the Correspondence / Poet Laureate.

Also Mithridacy cap increase is available back in London. Big FYI for y'all: Meritorious. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

I've embraced my true destiny. I will hunt that bear forever, even after all the stars in the sky go out and the Cosmogone sun shatters. It'll be me and that stupid bear, just duking it out in the darkness. And the carnival urchins too, I suppose. Have to get my tea from someone. Extremely glad to see I won't have to draw the card to return it anymore, though.

Yeah, I was wondering whether butchering animals would be required to proceed, but they made it so you can harmlessly extract bones.

FWIW, I was asking precisely because I didn't want to lock myself out of trying the basic options, so I haven't given him the bone duplication device yet, I can fill in more gaps in the non-revised butchery.

...but not for a while, I ran out of items and things to butcher and went back to london and am doing a big round of acquiring all sorts of things before heading back to Ealing.

I just got back to London and sold the Tinned Ham they sell in Extramural Trading for 63.50 Echoes at the Bazaar. That's one Echo of profit from 125 Scrip, and while that's not a lot, you're not spending any actions on the sale. It feels relative worthwhile to do a trade in hams if you have more Scrip than you know what to do with.

So, I'm noticing a lot of the new content uses mid-tier Renown items to unlock faction-specific content. The Hellish Hymn and the Teeth of St George unlock Hell- and Church-aligned GHR charters. Once in Ealing Gardens proper, there seem to be additional options unlocked by Defenstrating Boots, the DF, the Rubbery Bellringer, the Language of Laces, and the Chap on the Corner. Looks like establishing that level of connection with your favoured factions will be useful in shaping your experiences west of London.

That's a bit disappointing to me. I was eager to see the options to have the other animals slain.

P.S. Nope, no Bats killed there! The Butcher likes bats and gives his attic over to them.

You can also butcher your Deep-zee Catch. Which you shouldn't, because that seems to be either Retired for Fate-locked.

On a related note, what sort of Laws must be Betrayed for one to obtain Mutersalt these days?

Unless something changes, I think it’s a Fate item available at the Fruits of the Zee festival. Lots of those now fate locked items are getting uses, so something might change.

I tend to keep a spare of most creatures about my person, even the ones that do damage to my opportunity deck. The Wiki is complete with regards to the Parabolan critters, the Labyrithn of Tigers, and the (not-Fate-locked) Whitsun companions. If there are more duplication options, they are either Fate-locked or extremely obscure.

As someone with a Bifurcated Owl and a Dream-Hound I can confirm that at least those two don't open new options for the butcher.

I'm in a similar boat with Rumours. I've been working on growing my plant so that I can create Warbler-Hydras with 7 heads of John the Baptist, but i'm still on Level 13 of Attending so that will take a while.

On the subject of Rumours, there's a new option on the Evening at Sophia's card that I think unlocks with building a station. You need to spend 5 Rumours of the Upper River, and I got 1500 Rostygold, 5 Jet-Black Stingers and a number of Esteemable Trophies that I can't remember on success. I'm sorry that I didn't add it to the wiki, I'm just kind of intimidated by the editing process. I'm also not sure if there's a range to any part of the success.

Oh hey, a new card!

And a success result for the first option: https://i.imgur.com/0fCO9J2.png
I wondered a while ago why the 'white' option was missing, and now it's there, cool.

Dang, you need to be White at the Chessboard to do that. I'm still 37 points away from that. Red can increase Darkness but not lower it, I would have expected it could play either side or neither.

Any idea if there are similar cards in the other stations? It doesn't currently seem possible to lower Darkness is Jericho or Evenlode.

New option under 'Tour the Neighbourhood' in Ealing called 'Track rumours you've been hearing' which will apparently open up a new area that will also allow you to raise your maximum shapeling arts. It requires investigating 5 and a 'Key of Dreams'. Apparently you cannot take this action when you have acquaintance with Helicon House.

EDIT: After some digging on the wiki, I've found out that the key of dreams is a developer only item. This probably means that the new area is currently impossible to access and is just there for testing purposes. Oh well.

EDIT 2: The option is gone now. A fleeting glimpse of the future. Makes sense though, as we've got the conflict in Parabola to deal with before we're able to delve into rubbery art.

While I voted on the side of our current Mayor, I suspect this insight may vindicate those who believed in the Tentacled Entrepreneur's integrity.

Also, upon noticing the new rising stat gained by "offering" Forty-Nine Voiced Warblers in the Viscountess' old stomping grounds in the Viric Jungle, it suddenly struck me that I was utterly opportunistic in the struggle between cats and snakes for supremacy until getting to know a certain Turbulent Tabby. DAMN that loveable old blob of fur, he's done more to make me pick a side by existing than literally every other relevant storylet combined.

The Return of the Honey-Mazed Bear is now a storylet. Great. Now I won't have to live with the card eternally stuck in my hand. And no, the bear is now mine, I won't let the urchins play a joke on me again.

You can give the bear back to the urchins for 5 of the new trophy things needed to advance dangerous. You also get an Urchin favor and some others items, but I can’t remember them at the moment.

Once you give the butcher the device for duplication of bones, does that lock all of the options labeled as "unlocked by not having any Revisions to the Business Model of a Butchery"?

They get replaced by new options. The new options no longer take away the animal you're butchering, but instead cost Bone Fragments and Warm Amber. Note that in some cases that may lock you out.

I believe they're actually -2 BDR total. But, they give +2 to a specific stat, which is useful for the Bone Market.

FYI you can obtain scrip by selling stuff through the not-Bazaar. I just dumped my inventory of Cartographer's Hoards.

I already posted this in the railway thread but I'll do it here too.

You can build a statue to multiple different parties in Ealing. If you're a Poet Laurate, you can build one to yourself. And if you have gotten a statue via the Jack questline, then building said Poet-Laureate Statue will actually say something along the lines of "This isn't your first statue", and then boost the appropriate quality.
