I pair of Iguana-Skin Boots (Watchful 5, Dreaded 1 & Bizarre 1) from an invigorated scarlet egg received in the mail -- very nice!

I just want all the pets. Hopefully I can get most of them. Many of them are dinosaur themed too.

Weird, the action for sending eggs specifically says this will give a companion. What was the message you got with it?

Am I right in my understanding that the illegal augmentation device is only used to obtain the four top-tier companions?

There's essentially a ton of different items, and due to the time gates and Fate-locked items, there's no feasible way to get them all. However, some of the free ones are pretty good so it's not completely pay-to-win (though it is heavily so, Failbetter needs to make money somehow). edited by The Curious Watcher on 5/11/2020
Ahhh, thanks. Looks like I did not read carefully enough, but now more or less get it. edited by Snort on 5/11/2020 edited by Snort on 5/11/2020

They aren't. You get enough amber ha'pennies to acquire one piece of clothing without fate. Though you'll need fate if you want either the top-tier companions or more than one piece of clothing.

If you can get Iguana Boots in the mail, and it wasn't a mistake, that might sound like a way to get an item for one ha'penny. Unless the egg was taken to the tailor either before or after transit (is that even possible?), in which case it's just a waste of a ha'penny.

Well yeah, but the point was he said he got it from an egg exchange with no mention of spending ha'pennies.

The Terror Bird at least lets you farm Thorned Ribcages in Parabola. It's pretty much obsolete since we can get Shapeling Arts from Scarlet Eggs now, but it is useful all the same.

You can also make an event-exclusive newspaper edition at Doubt Street without Copy requirements. that gives 4 Blackmail, 1 Vital Intelligence, and 1 Cellar of Wine
But it requires that you hatch eggs first. This quality here.

The Carnivorous Aurochs (one augment version) also adds a new hunting option in Parabola:
Track your Carnivorous Auroch Stalk it. Learn its arts of stealth and visit its dreams. Claim it again in the end.
The reward is one "A Memory of Discordance", an Academic item. I'm out of actions so I don't know if it has any use/sell value.

Yes, but you can grind them in the Lab without buying them for Echoes. It remains to be seen whether that is a desirable thing.

Guys...with Sinning Jenny's Finishing School...there is a rare chance to get this from Aged Eggs.
Cue the rush for Aged Eggs and Empress's Shadow in 3...2...1...

Assume a top-tier, Fate-enhanced laboratory can produce 27 research per action, plus 2 actions for beginning & ending.
Ancient Hunting Rifle: 125 Research vs 28.8E to buy, sell for 12.5E. This takes 7 actions. If you're selling the weapons, it's less than 2 EPA. If you want to acquire one, you would need a 4.1 EPA grind to be more efficient than the research.
Infernal Sharpshooter's Rifle: 1825 Research vs 420E to buy, sell for 210E. This takes 70 actions. This is respectable. Sells at 3 EPA, and for acquiring, the laboratory is more efficient unless you can grind at 6 EPA.
In practice Laboratory research will be slightly less efficient because of occasionally failing skill-checks, and student disgruntlement. But as a back-of-the-envelope calculation, the efficiency of research does seem to fall into the (rather large) gap between the bazaar's sell and buy prices.

Cue the rush for Aged Eggs and Empress's Shadow in 3...2...1... Interesting! What's the relevant storylet at the Finishing School with this outcome?
One other question: Does anyone know if the upgraded versions of the hatched companions open up the same Opportunities (in Parabola, the Flit, etc) as their less-augmented versions? edited by James Sinclair on 5/11/2020

Hello everyone! I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the Highly Illegal Device to augment my egg for the 3rd time. I have an Invigorated Aged egg which was augmented twice and I have the device. Now I'd like to augment with the device before hatching, but I only see this:Encourage your egg to hatchIt has been augmented twice. You will not be able to do more to it unless you have the gifts of experimental science at your disposal. Any further augmentation would require a Highly Illegal Device.
