They say that once every nine years there's a card game where you can gamble your soul and win your heart's desire. That sounds like tremendous fun.

I'm putting this thread up early: the Heart's Desire conclusion will begin on Tuesday! Expect a code to appear here some time that morning which will let you get into the finale stories a little early.

The last Ambition, coming to a close! What will we do with ourselves now?

I looked at the Fallen London discord, and after completing it myself, here are the results for the 5 possible endings during the Heart's Desire Conclusion:
1. If you choose Power, you request to become a Master of the Bazaar yourself. You are then given a special Master's Cloak, the title of Mr Cards, and have to undergo monthly Red Science modifications to slowly-but-surely turn your biology into that of a Curator. In about a century, you will be granted all of the power and authority, and will become indistinguishable from the Masters themselves.

2. If you choose Love, the Masters outright tell you that giving you True Love is impossible even for them [it can't be manufactured], and you are redirected back to the list of choices. True Love is then replaced with Adoration, and if you choose this option, the Masters use their influence to make you into a super-popular long-lost member of the Traitor Empress's family, going so far that you are likely the Empress's heir to the throne since her other children are "too problematic".

3. If you choose Time, the Masters send a regular supply of the Gracious Widow's peach brandy to you and -- more importantly -- give you the original contract that the Empress signed to sell London to the Bazaar. You are now the legal owner of London, and the contract has been amended so that they legally cannot destroy London or orchestrate the fall of the Sixth City without your permission, or unless there is no other option. Essentially, you bought both yourself and London a great deal of time.

4. If you choose Escape, the Masters give you an far-north Surface estate around the size of Luxembourg that connects directly to the Travertine Spiral. They reason that since the mansion is located very far North, it will be dark enough during half of the year to safely venture and enjoy the Surface without dying. [The Masters did mention settling Aestival, but it was denied]

5. If you let the Monkey win, he ends the Marvellous and you get not one, but two unique items: a Marvellous Monkey and the Marvellous deck, both giving bonuses to Player of Chess.
Heart's Desire is probably the Ambition with the best kind of rewards as a result.

All Ending Reward Stats and Item Descriptions, saving you all from a trip sorting out hundreds of messages on Discord. I haven't visited the lab yet so I can't verify any lab assistants at the moment. Also, the items are epic in their own way so its better to focus on RP than BiS stats.

GOOD LORD.

I never expected to be jealous of anyone else's Ambition reward. After some turmoil over whether I should've eaten Third City Veils, I genuinely thought I got everything I could possibly want, realistically, out of my Vake steed. But that POWER choice. Wow, just. Wow. I did not anticipate the Masters being capable of that.

...did the discord mention anything about how Ambitions connect to your Destiny? At the moment I have a certain Destiny involving a trip to the Sun with the other Masters I apparently abandon halfway. Which. Which your character would seem to be far closer to achieving than mine unless something...silly happens.

(Many years later, in the High Wilderness)

Mr. Wines: "Ah, look everyone! It's our esteemed colleague, Mr. Veils! I trust you have recovered after your...leave of absence?"

Man controlling the flight of Mr. Veils by means of straps, ropes and pulleys tying him to the belly of the space bat like a paraglider: "Yes. Yes, I am Mr. Veils. That is definitely who I am. How do you do, my fellow space bats?"

Curator Veils: I AM HUNGRY, CAN WE EAT FIRST?

Man controlling the flight of Mr. Veils by means of straps, ropes and pulleys tying him to the belly of the space bat like a paraglider: "Shhhhyoureblowingourcover"

Here’s my brief review with hidden spoilers, in case if anyone avoids open ones.

And also...

My FL-husband, several months ago: "I’ve chosen Heart’s Desire because I want a light-hearted Ambition. Bloody revenge, deadly monster-hunt, horrifying conspiracy? Too dark. I want a cute monkey instead. I want to listen to the Merry Gentleman’s and Topsy King’s jolly incomprehensible gibberish. I want to play pranks on our current Mayor. And I love it."

HD finale: comes
The Monkey: faces us with one of the cruelest choices and saddest moments in the whole game
The Manager: is in full-blown suicidal depression
The Topsy King: never fully recovers from madness
The Lord Mayor: eagerly murders us with her bare hands
FL-husband: "This is fine." (sips Muscaria Brandy)

Press F for the poor weasel.

Adoring the writing so far! So much lore and intrigue, I'm really enjoying it all.

I especially loved the part when the River Runs Backwards and your only option is to 'Look Magnificent'. That made me loudly guffaw. And strike a pose.

Spoilers for the very end...
Beechwood in the beginning was a nuisance that later -- and I am not ashamed to say this -- became my friend, like Tristram Bagley. And because of that -- and because he has given up on playing the Great Game called Life by his own volition -- I honor his decision and and sincerely pay my last respects to the man he once was, and to the game we played. In the end, his wish to end the Marvellous paled in comparison to the strength of my Destiny, and I regret what I had to do. But as a Midnighter, I answer the wishes of the damned, and provide them rest...

...

I thank you for the best game of cards that I have ever --- no, will always be -- played for all time. And I will make sure that your gift and my Heart's Desire will not go to waste

Godspeed, Beechwood; may your untimely demise provide you a chance to become closer to the God you've always wished to be nearer too.

If you want, you can stalk Discord for those details, I certainly have no reason to.

I was already a pretty big Master shill and Bazaar worshipper before this, but now that I'm officially a part of the fold, I'm going to abuse this aspect of myself as much as possible. The words I spoke to Fires about my political opinions are strangely prophetic for this reason. I was also a Master in my original Destiny before I switched to Backstage, so I am looking forward to dominating and controlling the other Masters as well.

Mr Cards' How-To Guide to Bring the Masters to Their (Figurative) Knees For Both Profit and Fulfilling the Original Mission:
1. Kill Veils, put the Bazaar in debt, and take over its taxation rights and business properties (possibly stealing his identity as Veils as well). In the future, I intend to use the money to set up a gambling business -- the House of Cards -- that will allow one to gamble anything for anything, securing both profits and power over the criminal underworld. Mr Wines will also be a willing ally of mines in the future for me doing its dirty work.

2. Kill Cups not because he killed a loved one (if I ever had any), but because his stories of love and vengeance could lead the Bazaar into joining the Liberation of Night to lash out against its unfair situation, and that is bad for business. Replace the story with one of loss to advise the Bazaar to have pity on humans, and use my status as a dual Master slayer to get everyone to fear and respect the young"Mr Cards",

3. Save the Hybrid, and purposely train it to one day rule over the Roof, granting me great power and influence there should I need it. When the time is right, I will pull a grand betrayal by explaining and providing proof to the Masters and the Bazaar that Fires has been trying or tried to ruin their mission of thousands of years for the sake of one city, and once they abandon him, sicc the hybrid and its forces to get their revenge. With less Masters, they will be forced to give me more power to compensate for the power vacuum, and I become one of the leading Masters at this point.

4. Once the Bazaar's mission is done (hopefully in a success), it has to reward me for my service. Since it cannot offer me redemption unlike the others, it will have to offer something of great value to me to fund my crazier schemes.

That is assuming that the other Masters, the Bazaar, the Calendar Council, and Mr Eaten don't kill me first for living on the wild side. Fortune favors the bold, however, and if the Marvellous has taught me anything, a Great Game is interesting only because of its wild stakes.

All outcomes that determine what happens to the Monkey.
Accepting the Chance

Refusing the Chance (I don't have a description of it, but it upgrades the monkey into a Condemned Cardsharp Monkey that I think also gives a Player of Chess.

The Monkey bows its head, defeated, as the Masters begin a courteous round of applause. One by one, they drop down around you, landing nimbly on their feet. Each of them looms over you to extend a word of two of congratulation.
Mr Hearts pushes to the front. "Profound congratulations," it intones, "A most entertaining contest. You comported yourself with verve and ingenuity. A game, I think, that we shall be talking about for many years. For now, return to your lodgings. Rest. Enjoy your success."
Beechwood has drawn away. You can see him wringing his paws together, compulsively. His eyes are haunted. He knows that – in a few years' time, when the false-stars align – he must play the Marvellous again.
Hearts escorts you back to the coracle, and along the capillary-canal to the Ormolu Door. "We will send for you shortly," it says, "to arrange your prize." It does not acknowledge the Monkey, who follows you home once more. Almost as though nothing has changed, though you both know that everything already has.

Forfeiting

I did what watcher did up till the final choice when I
didn't let him bet it. Now the game's trying to make me feel like crap for not letting him kill himself and frankly, I'm insulted. Wiping away the remnants of his humanity would not have been merciful. While he lives, he has hope. But instead, he is 'condemned' now. Like the guy who took everyone to task this round couldn't win in the future.
This game’s trying to, without the ambiguity of the contessa storyline, state that allowing someone else to kill themselves is to free them. The man has a future. He has hope. He’s not dying or in truly unspeakable pain, he’s just obsessed and stuck with a medical condition (that is, being an ape). Yes, his life sucks, but he has a future, he has loved ones, he has the chance to improve things.
I don’t know, it just seems wrong to me. Maybe you have a different opinion, as the writers clearly did, or maybe I’m misreading it all, but people in my life have nearly killed themselves before, and this whole thing just rankles me something fierce.
It's funny because towards the end of Light Fingers, Mr Fires reveals that he has a similar diamond as big (if not bigger) as the one implanted into his lover, the Hundreds. IMO, the Manager picked the wrong Ambition to pursue.

The Manager, sometime after Heart's Desire: "I've lost! Oh well, I've heard rumors that Mr. Fires may have a diamond just as-"

Mr. Fires: Screeching furiously about it's ruined plans and upping security to the maximum due to events related to a possible conclusion of the Light Fingers Ambition

Actually, the assistant from Light Fingers ended up being Hephaesta, which was rather a surprise considering she was MIA for... two and a half chapters? Dr Vaughan was a reasonable expectation, but one choice towards the end of the story (that doesn't seem to have any in-game effects) may preclude it.

If Heart's Desire ends up not having a lab assistant, I might just consider that as balance against the other amazing rewards y'all got. Only one of my Light Fingers rewards gives points in any of the new qualities.

I'm extremely tired and irritated by the search for Eyeless Skulls. I've been at it for two weeks, spent a small fortune, and assembled 3 Tears of the Bazaar from the Airag lost by some misguided prior visitors to the Shrine.. and I still only got 2 frigging skulls.

Honestly, if I have to stare at this opportunity deck for one more week, I'll join Tristram in his demise.

Heh, I am looking at some of youse' profiles and editing the wiki after I make some extrapolations with them. Thanks, people.

UPDATE: Oh. Oh... I see what you did there, Failbetter. The boatman's story might be a reference to a certain Discworld story about the cloaked skeleton dude taking a break from his work and another story about this or that civilization having their own tollperson.

UPDATE 2: Failbetter writers, there are more than a few typos, usually from tapping another key that is close to the ones that you actually want, e.g. "it" is written as "if". Burning the midnight oil, maybe?

I love how for the preparing for the final match grind there's an advice for how to get Nights on the Town. I think this is pretty much the first advice on how to get certain items in this Ambition. There was no advice on how to get Vital Intelligence (1 of which is also required for this very step), there is no advice on how to get 3 Books of Hidden Bodies or the Intriguer's Compendium (thank Christ that he was born and gave me Sky Stories for his anniversary) as well for this step. As someone who had spent a good amount of time as a Journalist and then an Author, enough to have 157 Nights on the Town, this is mildly amusing. I didn't spend enough time as an Author to cover the cost of Cellars of Wine for this ambition, however, considering that it's going to be, what, third Plated Seal I'm going to hunt this month?

On a completely unrelated note, does anyone know if it's faster to collect 5 Eyeless Skulls by doing expeditions to the Shrine of by wandering the Forgotten Quarter? I foresee myself somewhat hastening the Liberation of Night in the future.

PSGarak wrote:

Heists. Target the Circumspect Envoy. When given the choice, I believe the documents you should pilfer are from Vesture but I'm not 100% sure about that.

It is indeed the Vesture documents. There is also another option, but it gives only 1 of the Intelligence.

I think Mr. Card can only appear in the Christmas stories of some people. After all, he is just Schrodinger's Mr. Card. However, if Mr. Card in London can bring unexpected fate options to my character, then things are interesting.
Out of the marvelous impact this event may have on Christmas in London, I am happy to be a member of the master.

Of course, perhaps Christmas can interact with the dream, and those who are not HD participants and those who choose other endings can visit Mr. Card in their dreams.
In fact, every Ambitions has a huge and irreversible impact on the world, but so far, no one can compare with Heart's Desire.

Time as well as Adoration have interesting implications for Sunless Skies. And of course no wish-fulfilment includes cider, because that would remove FL's second biggest grind.
Also of course Aestival is not an option, that's already someone's home and ambitionsmile!

If any are still curious, here are the choices from the final round. The results are almost exactly the same.
For one of the options, you can choose to bet a single penny; should you have no money...well the writers thought of that as well. I would have liked to try that option if I knew about it earlier.

I've finished the Ambition and gained my Heart's Desire (though I'm still waiting for the epilogue opportunity card). I chose Power and began my ascention to the ranks of the Masters which, like the case of many here, is a perfect fit for my Destiny . Due to my Revolutionary sympaties and still-existing humanity (at least for the next 100 years or so), I look forward for the opportunity to destroy the Masters from within.

And I just have to say: thank you Failbetter for this amazing story and epic finale, scratch that, thank you for Fallen London in general! And thanks everyone in this forum, it's been great sharing this experience with you and I can't wait to see what comes next! smile

So, after several days of Skull Grind (with a two-and-a-half break for the true Whitsun experience of egg research) I've finally collected all 5, so now it's just a matter of not accidentally giving one away for money and resisting the masochistic urge to sell the Cinder to the Bazaar. Out of the ways to get the Skulls, 3 were found while Wandering the Quarter, and 1 each from a Shrine (I think I'd done 18 or so with only the last giving me the last skull immidiately after getting the fourth) and Seeing the sights (after many, many CPs of Nightmares).

If you blew your First City coins on the lab upgrade, you will probably regret that.

Just so you remember, the First City coins are somehow connected to the Marvellous game.

Also, I hope that there are options that can make use of other player characters. The other three Ambitions were so lacking in these.

Creepy is Such a fitting Word to describe him.

My own questions,if perhaps a bit rushed:

- How does Mr. Pages intends to be granted his desire if he wins, knowing now who grants? If he does not mean to win,why does he play- is he being forced? If he does, what does that implicate, in terms of lore, knowing that Pages is one the few loyal to the promise that was made?

- What was Mr Bangley Original Desire?

- What does the Monkey means? In what does he relate to Cora?

- To what extent does Virginia fear, and whom exactly, to desire so?

- In what could the granting of the Desires of the Bishop and the Manager upset the status quo?

- Could we actually lose the Marvellous?

- What am I not understanding?

It's funny because towards the end of Light Fingers, Mr Fires reveals that he has a similar diamond as big (if not bigger) as the one implanted into his lover, the Hundreds. IMO, the Manager picked the wrong Ambition to pursue.

You know, I actually adore the (somewhat ludicrous) resource requirements: the way I see it, we're *so* close to getting our Heart's Desire and *so* obsessed with winning the Marvellous that no cost will seem too expensive (as Cora said in this update "You're in too deep now to back out"), so I think the mechanics are well aligned with the context of the narrative.

Besides, in the final strech of our Ambition, the stakes couldn't be higher and going toe-to-toe with some of the most prominent figures in London is going to be a costly affair (and seeing the vast amounts of wealth that we gathered being put to use makes me feel like a badass and gives a heartwarming feeling at the same time).

So for those curious about who the past winners are..
The first is October of the Calendar Council, who you have to visit in Parabola. People who are companions with the Curious Contrarian save on Revolutionary Favors, while flavor text changes depending on whether you met her during the Exceptional Story: The Shallows.

The second is Gregory Beechwood, a former (and deceased?) lover of Cora Bagley and left a record of his work at the University.

The third is the Amused Lordship, one of the founding members of the Dilmun Club.
You have to revisit all the players again in order to locate the past winners' whereabouts. The locations are the same, except that Mr Pages is relocated to the Side-Streets for now.

Aside from item requirements, you will also eventually need the card-based opportunity "The Seekers of the Garden" in order to progress.

Then the Honour will start: you will have to go the northernmost part of Arbor to play against everyone in the first round.

Regarding Mr. Pages, spoilers from the Bag a Legend:
Masters as a legal entity are authorized to make deals and promises on behalf of the Bazaar itself. Every deal made by the Bazaar is written as a contract in Correspondence and acts as a Law, making it very hard to renege on or break. While the Masters are tasked with fullfilling the conditions of the deal, they act as proxies of Bazaar.
So, if Mr. Pages were to win such a deal, this could be a way to make the Bazaar free him from the original promise without incurring penalties - this would be literally achieved by the Bazaar declaring "Okay, I free you".
The main question is whether or not such a contract regarding Marvellous was actually made. Most likely yes - such a premise is a great generator of many kinds of stories for the Bazaar.

Though he indeed could simply represent the host, with his desire not being at stake.
The Manager's desire is not really that surprising to me. It was either do some more things to his beloved, or do something to himself to be more like his beloved.

In this case, it's the latter. He wants to become another Polythreme.

I was under the impression that the Masters have to do their best to give the winner what they want, like some sort of vow they can't break. But that's really speculation, so you raise a good point!

My point, exactly.
We now know that Mr. Pages desires to go home- meaning, he wants to fly in the dark of the High Wilderness. That brings some implications I will try to dillucidate. So, my train of thought runs like this:
- Mr Pages desires to go home.
- The Masters of the Bazaar are under the obligation, as it seems, to do their best attempt to make true the desire of the winner of the Marvellous. Mr. Pages seems to be confident in their skill to do so.
Two possibilities stem from this:
One:
- Mr Pages is playing to win the Marvellous.
- That means either the Masters of the Bazaar HAVE a way to make Mr. Pages desire true, meaning they have a way to go to the High Wilderness- which also implicates that either such an attempt is so difficult that it requires a joint effort on their part, or Pages does not know such a way, but suspects they do: if he could make his desire true on his own, he would already do so, except in a case I expound later,
- Or Pages merely hopes that they can make his desie true, and is delusional on the matter.
- Anyway, this also implicates Pages belives that their obligation to make that desire true trumps over their promise to the Bazaar- which could also be the reason as to why he has not tried it on his own, as to not break his promise.
Or:
- Pages is not playing the Marvellous to win, for reasons I can only suspect, and is merely the “house” of the game.
Either way:
- This give us precios insight on the character of Pages, especially if the first option is true, and specially if you take into account that Pages was one of the few Masters, if I got that right, that believes that the Bazaar misión is still doable.
This also raises two questions:
- When did Mr. Pages grow such a desire? He is a Master. He could cheat trough the game.
- If he wins, and the Masters do make his desire true, would at least some of them be tempted as to follow them, specially the ones, like Mr. Irons, that loathe the Bazaar and the Promise they were made?
Anyway, I now know my Heart Desire: to make him go home!
(Do you imagine it? “My cromulescent buddies, I WON! Take me home!”)
Also, I laughed so hard with the Custodian. But who do you think was the Lord of Blood? Veils?
Also, open question to you kind ones:
How many Lumps of Lamplighters Beeswax do I need to make 1001 Memories of Light?
And what would they cost me,in Echoes?

My point, exactly. [snip]
Also, open question to you kind ones:
How many Lumps of Lamplighters Beeswax do I need to make 1001 Memories of Light?
And what would they cost me,in Echoes?
This is not my Ambition, so I'm speculating without some primary source information. But.
First, I'm about 90% sure that promises can be made in a way that makes them Law. Like, enforceable-by-the-Judgements Law. And the Masters seem to make that type of contract regularly. Whatever binds the Masters to the winner, expect it to have the effect of a literal law of physics.

Second, it's possible that "escaping to the High Wilderness" could be interpreted as "accelerating the timeline of the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh cities so as to discharge the obligation to the Bazaar." This is, of course, Bad News for London. It's the sort of stakes that are in play for an Ambition.
Now for beeswax... long story short, you're trying to obtain 500 echoes worth of stuff. The fastest way is still not that fast, and it's expensive. Straight-up purchasing beeswax and upconverting is the most action-efficient pathway, but buying from the Bazaar comes with a markup of more than 100%. So a thousand echoes. I believe most players side-converted from other T3 items.

Two works in Court (one Song and one Poem) pay out in thousands of beeswax. If you happen to have a Rubbery Hound on hand, one breeding option gives a bunch of beeswax. It's not efficient to go to Flute Street to obtain one, but if you already have one it's fast.

So far ambition was very cheap. Part 1 is close to 500 echo. Part 2 is 2-3k, depending on route. It might be slightly more than that if you don't have parabola camp and 5 card lodging. But its nowhere near Knifegate. And timegates are merciful so far.

didn't let him bet it.

To add to this, wouldn't he be forced to play even though he has lost his humanity? Tristram lost his mind in his Chance, and yet for every Marvellous he regains a part of it enough to play and scheme. You can't free Beechwood from the game, that's one of the rules - you play until you win. Or until someone's Heart's Desire is to end the game; or, I suppose, until the Bazaar is done with its mission and returns to the Sun. Every tournament there's one new player, no more.

Does anyone know how to grind up scraps or get that easier...?

Other than selling the Nadir location, the only way is to grind scraps. Here are some notes I jotted down for this:
1. Get all three 3-card lodgings (plus a remote lodging, for trimming the deck)
2. Optimise your deck real hard* - you can keep the bat pet (avg ~ 1.5 scrap/action, plus very rare battitudes) - and keep 2 useless cards in hand at all times, flipping cards one by one
3. Optionally get scandal +3 items (hat + socks from the bazaar, barrel from bohemian renown 10) - this is for 2-action card refreshes. I hear the lab also gives that now though I haven't tried it myself, if that's the case then that's another method. You need one of the two, though. For the flash lay one you also need Scandal to be at 2 (if it's < 2, you can raise it inside the flash lay itself) - and other menaces low but they should already be low from trimming your deck.
4. Get the urchin pet (grubby kitten), and buy some weasels.
The process is then as follows:
 • If you don't have Calling in Favours in the Flit (henceforth CFF) drawn, then only draw cards in the Flit
 • If you draw CFF, and don't have 3 Urchin favours on hand, go to the lodgings or forgotten quarter to avoid the other Flit location cards
 • If or when you do have 3 Urchin favours, call them in as soon as you are able for 25 scrap
 • Every time you draw an Urchin favour card (faction card or kitten card) take it, unless you're close to 7 with no CFF in sight, in which case feel free to save your weasels and only use kittens for the last couple of favours to 7 (in my experience with the RNG, that happens a lot - sometimes CFF just refuses to materialise).
 • Every time you draw a lodging card, take the option that gives scrap. Ideally you should have 100% on all skill challenges (including the bazaar private auction one). The sulky bat card gives on average a bit under 1.5 scrap/action and has a rare battitude chance - it's good for collecting (I have 11 of those now!)
 • Discard everything else (unless you really want/need to play something, but realise it's gonna slow down your scrap grind every time you do). Once you run out of cards, start a flash lay while wearing your +3 Scandal gear, get kicked out immediately. (Or use the Lab.) To be optimal, be careful not to reset your deck right as your 10-minute refresh comes up, wasting a card!
 • Keep flipping cards, using all your actions on deck refreshes and getting scrap from lodgings and urchins.

I didn't keep data on my draws so I'm not sure whether the 1 scrap lodgings would be worth it. They might be, just barely. I went Seeking to get rid of them anyway. The bat is probably worth it, and the 2 scrap lodgings (so Salon/Orphanage) definitely so.

In other words, very roughly you can probably get around, or a bit above, 1 scrap/action. Which means somewhere between 100 and 150 scrap/day is realistic, giving you a Reported Location in three weeks to a month from scratch. Assuming you can't or don't want to sell the Nadir, that is the only way.

* Deck trimming is a topic in itself, but the basic principle is that when you draw a card, check its unlock requirements, and see if you can get rid of them. Lower menaces under 2, sell off pets with cards, avoid conflic cards from having too many favours, move to a remote address to avoid city vices, keep an unopened cat box to avoid those cards, make sure you have under 100 proscribed material - stuff like that.

I find it mystifying and remarkable that after everything /I'm still not sure what you guys actually won/ whether you honoured Beechwood's last Chance or not. In the other Ambitions it seemed fairly straightforward: You got your friend back, or the chance to see a Master fall to the dreams of the dead. Your moon-miser child overlooks you from the roof, or you gain a diamond filled with Stone's light. You gain exorbitant rewards from Veils' former holdings while throwing the Bazaar's plans into disarray, a powerful agent (and kingmaker) who plays the Great Game at a new level, communion with the long-dead priests of Red Bird (and possibly the strength of atrocity devoured from Third City Veils) or the greatest steed in the Neath.

But I've been following journals all the way through this wild ride, and for the life of me I still don't know how the Masters will move heaven and earth to grant your Heart's Desire.

Jumped on chair while reading most of texts so far. I'm doing too much coffee and whole global situation hits on my nerves, but writing is awesome. And I'm not even talked to the youknowwho about the place yet. Had right card in hand, but I'm usually spending my time in just an opposite side.
Amazing, just amazing. Especially when Mr. Pages is involved - each scene in my lodgings is just a little diamond.

I can accept the use of neologisms as a character trait of Mr Pages, but is it also a character trait to spell things wrong? Because my eyes sorely need a spellchecker. It's deleterious, not delecterious. It's peccadillo, with TWO c's!

And good god, what did you do to a poor word like "symphony"? Sympthony? What?

Edit: I know I might be adding a bit much, but I'm slightly shocked by how egregious it is at some parts. I just now saw that it was spelled as "titled my vanes" rather than tilted, which of course may be a pun that I just didn't catch.

- What was Mr Bangley Original Desire?

- What does the Monkey means? In what does he relate to Cora?

- To what extent does Virginia fear, and whom exactly, to desire so?

...

- What am I not understanding?

That's a lot of interesting questions, many of which I share. For Virginia's fear, I suppose the obvious answer would be the One-time Prince of Hell, whom we have released/claimed to release to persuade her to rejoin Marvellous. However, I have doubts that Virginia was entirely sincere during her conversation. For the rest, hopefully we will be able to clear at least some of them up in the future updates.

For the questions about Memories of Light, here is a link with a lot of potential options: https://www.reddit.com/r/fallenlondon/comments/ftu4zr/the_most_reliable_grind_for_memory_of_light/

I cannot vouch for any specific one, but I will probably have to try them soon myself. With the lab and a requirement during Heart's Desire, I have far fewer MoLs than I used to.

Waiting for Unsigned Messages is definitely more cost-effective and you have till Tuesday for the next update. However, more MoLs might end up useful even if you need less of them for the lab.

I've been converting Wax and Beetles for Memories of Light to increase my Liberation of Night as this was the only option for me in becoming a Paramount Presence.

Nearly obliterated nearly 100,000 lumps in the process but its not like they were doing anything anyways.

I was under the impression that the Masters have to do their best to give the winner what they want, like some sort of vow they can't break. But that's really speculation, so you raise a good point!

If I'm not mistaken, we learn that he became obsessed with finishing his Opera (the same we perform for him) and his Desire was related to completing it.

Ok, this part is done. Nothing of price range I was afraid of, although hints of things to come make me look on my puny stash of 496 first city coins with some deep sadness. Well, we will see.

Also I'm wonder why some ambition-related qualities are set in "Stories" section of "Myself". It has "Ambition" section after all. Also pointers are look suspicious. Bishop's have description, but this description is not for venue, but for someone I'll start to look for only after 28 of April. And I have talked with all players, but have only 4 pointers. Can this mean, that those 4 gave me more information, that they planned? Really should read their echoes couple times more, just in case.

Amazing, just amazing.

The most profitable way to get a Portfolio of Souls is probably the Sanctuary of the Crimson Petals expedition, with the only downside being the chance to get a rare success, which does not give a Portfolio. Usefullness depends on how many Supplies you have at the moment.

For getting the materials to make one, Unfinished Business options for PoSI are very useful. The Prince of... in Spite gives Souls (although the randomness can be infuriating), Contracts and Legs in Watchmaker's Hill gives Infernal Contracts. If you have Memories of Distant Shores, you just have to side-convert them to Brilliant Souls twice to get the necessary amount.

Just writing to say I tried the Crimson Sanctuary and YES I Have a Portfolio!(Odd sentence, hum?)
Anyway, my many thanks to you, dear sire!

Parabola, eh? Doesn't sound to me like this is actually necessary but here we go. Though I haven't dabbled in either the lab or Parabola during the last week, so I'll have to begin from the start.

Also three of the players desire a place to stay. Sounds to me like it could be recurring.

I'm actually wondering if upcoming content is going to give out more of these qualities. I hope that the Ambition items remain uniquely powerful, but perhaps not quite as unique as they currently are.

Raising the stat-caps would imply higher Renown values become accessible... food for thought.

That's what I meant. Dr. Vaughann is a much more fitting person to be a lab assistant, but she may leave London for the roof, so Hephaesta is the one to participate in research.

Speaking of new qualities, whenever we get the ability to raise the Artisan of the Red Science and its Studies, a Correspondent Mr. Cards with the hat from Mr. Pages will be able to get 10, making the research skill check automatic success, and the research gain appears to be 4 X Artisan, so 40 research per action. If we ever get another boosting item in another slot (unlikely as it is), this would make compiling Mirthless Compendia more profitable than feeding Urchins to tigers or the Tomb of Silken Thread with only Strong-Backed Labour, at 2,5 EPA (2 actions to start and finish the research, 3 for 132 point of research). And without having to spend an eternity in Arbor.

Now if only I had even a single skull after three expeditions and many actions seeking curios and secrets. I feel like I had better luck when collecting them for the Nadir.

Also, I am still waiting for that damn Relicker card. Grud-dammit, why do I have to wait for this? There was that storylet for getting the One-Time Location for a Prince of Hell, but not for the Intriguer's Compendium?

For anyone waiting for that card, you might want to sit at the Labyrinth of Tigers. That location has no location-specific card, so that should trim your draw deck a bit.

The Christmas Masters are their Nomen, so all the need is blood, and it's implied that they have plenty on hand already. Otherwise we wouldn't see a Mirror's Sacks. Or be able to buy some.
And the Sacks of Mr. Cards is probably a part of the Master's responsibilities once it fully becomes a Curator, so isn't going to be a thing for quite some time (at least, not during the Twelve Days, unless it acquires an enormous amount of Tears).
Do we actually know why there's that whole thing with Masters' creating Nomen and having them masquerade as Mr. Sacks?

Besides, there is a chance that instead of a Ray-Drenched Cinder, you get a Vial of Tears like I did from playing the same season conclusion, so it is was merely luck that gave you exactly what you needed.

Strictly speaking, Pages' hat is optional, so nothing is technically stopping you from moving onwards if you get tired of grinding for the Cinder. However, I do sympathize with the people who want to make the most out of their Ambitions after coming so far, and I hope that you get what you need sooner than later.

The option to get Cora Bagley as a Lab Assistant appears only after you draw her epilogue opportunity card in London. So you might have to wait (I drew the card the day after I finished the ambition), but the option should be open to everyone.

True Love is then replaced with Adoration, and if you choose this option, the Masters use their influence to make you into a super-popular long-lost member of the Traitor Empress's family, going so far that you are likely the Empress's heir to the throne since her other children are &quottoo problematic&quot.

Dear Lord and all the false saints! And here I stood believing that I knew my heart desire. But this? Oh my!

Alright, I admit it. These rewards are boss. Was kinda disappointed with the climax compared to the other ambitions ( particularly nemesis) and the whole monkey thing still upsets me, but these rewards don’t just blow all the other ambition rewards out of the water, they send them blasting off skyward like team rocket.
A massive surface estate? Becoming a member of the royal family? OWNING London and living forever? MASTERHOOD?!
I can’t even begin to decide.
Heists. Target the Circumspect Envoy. When given the choice, I believe the documents you should pilfer are from Vesture but I'm not 100% sure about that.

It happens after you beat the third round.

When completed, you get the weapon on my mantelpiece.

I resorted to paying Fate to recover quickly from death and for an unnecessary two Hell favours for it.

When you pressure the opponent in the third round, they evoke the Chance and you can choose between 2 options:. The mind or a "key" stated to give an advantage in a specific menace area.

The record for obtaining the mind here:
https://www.fallenlondon.com/profile/Den%20Blackwell/18390596

It is an Affiliation that gives 1 Shadowy, 1 Bizarre, 1 Dreaded, 1 Mithridacy, and 1 Visiting.

If possible, I would like to know the results of the other option as well, though you have to be absolutely heartless to opt for that.

For the third match, I used the costly-but-awesome Parabolan Chess Army for support if anyone was curious. It's good to have both the Beleaguered King and the Red-Handed Queen fighting under me for once. I esp. loved it when they fought against Nothing-After-Death.

I also strongly urge others to start stocking up on 15 Nights on the Town or the Making Waves needed to create them, as you will need them soon after.

Well, my friend was tired of my heming and hawing, and he chose power for me while I was in the bathroom. So, uh. Guess that answers that!
