You heard of a diamond "the size of a cow". Even if it's only the size of, say, a pig, or even a kitten, it's worth your time.

For those of you who've been waiting: the finale to Light Fingers begins today. Good luck.

(I did have an early release code as with the others, but forgot to share it here; I'm sorry for that.)

'Tis done.

I think this might be my favourite ambition, story-wise. It was always very different from Nemesis or Bag a Legend, and stayed different to the end. The writing was absolutely delicious.

I am very pleased with all my final outcomes - so pleased I haven't even looked at the other possible paths and rewards yet. I'm not sure whether this is pure luck or awesome game-design on FB's part (or a combination of the two), but my characters' professions turned out to be extremely well-suited to their ambitions' respective rewards: the Licentiate got the Kataleptic Toxicology bonus, the Midnighter the Player of Chess bonus and the Crooked-Cross got Mithridacy and Shapeling Arts!

As someone who's been around for an awful long time, concluding these Ambitions feels somehow incredible, and difficult to put into words. A huge thank-you to Failbetter for all those delicious words! smile

Now, I'll have to play Heart's Desire at some point... Big Grin

(And yeah, that quote on Deepdelver's profile about the "part of darkness that gave birth to light"?
I picked that years ago... Whaaaaa? )

Rupho Schartenhauer has killed a Master, well: most of it.
Cortez the Killer has killed a Master, definitely.
Deepdelver has become the progenitor of London's brightest star. It's... complicated.

Comedy ending thoughts: You do somehow wrap around to getting your hands on the cow-sized diamond. Problem: Nobody has enough money to buy it and nobody wants to risk cutting it, so you are stuck with what is effectively a very large rock.

The only reason I accepted was because (a) this character is molded to be the most evil, irredeemable villain I can ever concoct and they deserve to suffer and (b) this is my only "single" alt so it wouldn't be out-of-character to agree to such a proposal.

I am terrified if one of the rewards actually has it as a potential "Companion." Easily more frightening than going North, more fatal than getting slaughtered by the Vake, and more lethal than ingesting an entire vial of Cardinal's Honey without the antidote.

No diamond is worth this.

On the one hand, of course not!

On the other hand, perhaps this is an excellent chance to pull a fast one over on a Master. This Ambition is for people with criminal aspirations, so some light marriage fraud really should be on-point.

On the other, other hand (thank you Parabola!), I just spent twenty actions and several hundred echoes hiring gratuitous amounts of thugs and Clay Men. I'm going to be a little salty if that investment doesn't result in even a single person getting punched in the face very, very hard.

I just got to this part as well. Yeah, I read the part about having to get the help of a Glassman before I returned to London, but it does feel like something is missing here. It goes from checking out your Lodgings to suddenly referencing "the Glassman", "your Obliging Glassman" without any introduction.

So far I've loved what has been going on in Light Fingers, the Roof and the Song truly gave me shivers, even on a hot day like this!

But, I have established a Defence 3 Base Camp in Parabola already, and I am a Glassman myself, yet I still need to hire and supply another Glassman to scout for a good spot for a Camp-spot? (Light Fingers 206)

Anybody else feels like this is a bit... excessive, after all I already have a Glassman (myself) and a Camp.

This seems like a bug from LF being released before the Base-Camp update. While Failbetter is on a long weekend at the moment, it'd be good to send in a support ticket about this.

I think you can grind the beeswax from Unfinished Business at Ladybones or a Political Anthem (song) at the Empress's Court.

It's faster to grind them in the Department of Menace Eradication. On 'Light a Candle, and wait' with the chandler. That gives you a constant 123 each time.

Spoilers, y'all.

Wooooow. The multi-year wait was honestly worth it. The whole conclusion was top-notch, from beginning to end. I do not regret any of my choices, but many of them have a sting even afterwards.

I did not believe that Poor Edward could get any worse than he already was, but here we are. He got what he deserved, which is also want he wanted... I can't feel pity for him, but there is an element of tragedy.

I asked the Duchess for help. This resulted in Hephaesta being in a scene which, if it were the art for a heavy metal album cover, no one would ever find out what the music sounded like because the speakers would explode thirty seconds into the intro. A Crack in the Parabolan Sun. The snakes will always know.

I smuggled the Hybrid out... the "fake" funeral was a bit too real. While the Hybrid is all alive and well, the goodbye is permanent. There's a real piece of mourning there. But I can always see my little moonbro up in the ceiling! Everyone can see his light, but I know he shines for me. We are worlds apart, but always part of each other's life.

I hope Dr Vaughan finds peace.

Alright, material rewards.

I am a cat. This is best-in-slot by 2 points for Shadowy and 4(!) points for Persuasive.

Sending the Hybrid to the ceiling grants a Companion which is best-in-slot for Shadowy by 2 points and grants 1 point of Shapeling Arts. It also grants a card while at Zee. I wasn't paying super-close attention to the change points but I believe it grants 8cp of zailing progress and removes 4cp of Troubled Waters.

Hephaesta is in the Lab! Right now she grants 20 Parabolan Research per action. After 15 actions, it looks like she will be able to return to London, and she will have an advantage for Cartographical research.

I told Dr Vaughan to come back to London, but I haven't seen her around yet. I was also expecting to be able to visit the Misermere again but have not found the option yet.

What an incredible ride! Thoroughly gripping the whole way through. My character got to grow and change over this process in ways I didn't expect.
She surprised me by getting angry and going after Poor Edward when otherwise she wouldn't have bothered, and cared about her new friends enough to let the hybrid go to the roof (and yeah okay, also to stick it to a Master just a little -- budding revolutionary perhaps?) I just couldn't get her to choose the diamond, whatever its size.
She absolutely would have chosen differently at the start. The Light Fingers journey got her to care, and that my friends, is the sign of a great story.

I just got the reward for sending the Hybrid to the ceiling.

Nightmares reduction, Searing Enigma, a handful of Making Waves, 2 Lessons Learned, and 2 other Second Chances (forget which type). And an Airs of London roll, for whatever that's worth.

This ending is so melancholy. I'm glad I will keep being reminded of it. I know you're there, little moon-dude. I hope you can see me waving.

You can always buy Phosphorescent Scarabs from Merrigan's Exchange at the Bazaar in bulk and convert that into Memories of Light, but that may be too expensive for you.

I think you can grind the beeswax from Unfinished Business at Ladybones or a Political Anthem (song) at the Empress's Court. Either way, this is designed to take a while or be ungodly expensive, so just take your time in getting it.

Also, stockpile 5 Bottles of First Sporing by trading Love Stories through Mr Wines's card if you don't have them already; you'll thank me later.

The stories might be adjusted when they are no longer associated with an Ambition, but I wouldn't expect much.

Based on experience, the Base-Camp is in the honey-dens of Veilgardens.

Based on Hearsay, the Lab is at the University.

And the sisters are singing in London and Hephaesta's going to be ok and Dr Vaughn might see her husband again! It's such a sweet and happy ending! There's bittersweetness to it, things that might have turned out better- the burning of the love stories, the rubbery men don't get a way back to the high wilderness in this telling, but even the happiest stories end that way, even if they don't always tell you they do. This was so wonderful! Thank you. ^_^
Just curious, did your miser-child differ in it's end reward description and stats from Gul's? Was checking the wiki for the end of Light Fingers and seemingly there aren't alternate rewards

There are two points where you make a decision that results in a significant reward.
The first is where you become a cat or a snake. You may end up with a clothing item or an Affiliation. The second is the fate of the Hybrid, to give to Mr Fires or to smuggle to the ceiling. You may end up with a Companion or a Home Comfort.
There are also several permanent story qualities, whose effect is unknown. They may affect the monthly reward text. Hard to tell.

poor Edward is dead, perhaps I should have spared him perhaps my child should have decided, but the child would have been merciful. My only regret is I couldn't have made him suffer more in his death
