A difficult tabby cat has made his home in your lodgings. He insists that only you can help him get what he wants – a return to his former glory. He has a long journey in mind, one that will take him across the kingdoms of cats in search of their mythical King.
Go Tell the King of Cats is the second story in the Season of Endeavours and was written by James Chew. In this season you will experience three stories of high adventure, derring-do and mystery across London and beyond!
Begin with the Season of Endeavours card available throughout London.
Editing and QA: Olivia Wood Art: Tobias Cook
Exceptional Friendship
In addition to a new, substantial, stand-alone story every month, Exceptional Friends enjoy:
Access to the House of Chimes: an exclusive private members’ club on the Stolen River, packed with content An expanded opportunity deck: of ten cards instead of six! A second candle: Twice the actions! 40 at once!
Finishing all three stories in the Season of Animals will make you eligible for an additional opportunity, to follow.
If you want to keep an Exceptional Story beyond its release month, you must complete the related storylet in the current Season’s card. This will save it for you to return to another time. edited by James StAnthony on 3/26/2020 edited by James StAnthony on 3/26/2020

I have made the pages for the actions for this storylet on the wiki. Nothing much other than flavour text about how nasty Neath cats are.

A fairly straightforward story but nonetheless satisfying to play. I'm curious as to what happens if the King fulfills any of the requests. edited by loredeluxe on 3/26/2020

I'm about to depart for the Court of the Wakeful Eye. And I just wanted to say: I'm a little drunk and I've been listening to the Cats (2019) soundtrack as I play, and I think it going to Memory combined with telling the tabby the truth about his second and third references fully convinced me to do a complete 180 from scolding him to appreciation.
EDIT: The Turbulent Tabby chose to spend his last days in comfort, surrounded by kittens and imparting what wisdom he could. This is both the saddest Fallen London story I've completed in a while, and also the one in which I'm incredibly happy and relieved I managed to be a good friend to all the cats in the story.
Mainly just by the intuition that nothing good could come from a King of Cats whose court was all husks. edited by Hattington on 3/26/2020

Strange that the initial option is unlocked with Connected: Glass and Connected: Shroud below 25, when (as far as I can tell from the wiki) it's impossible to get them higher.

I loved this story. I just finished it and I can’t help but cry at the end. I helped the Tabby know what it’s like to be a cat again. I’m still kinda crying as I write this. I wish there was a way to keep the Tabby with me. There’s so so much more I wanna show him of the Neath.

The character of the Envoy of Arbor was introduced at that festival, as a teaser for the Arbor-related content that was released throughout 2019 or so (the Heist, the Arbor card & associated location, and maybe related to the 3 Expeditions). The finale of that festival was choosing who would become the Ambassador to Arbor. Choosing yourself was only one possible outcome. The choice, or lack of choice, results in minor textual variations to the conclusion of the Heist.

Now, onto speculating on what the king of cats promise the consort.

For those wondering what the Banded Prince wanted...
Being that I know all about the Orts and am a good friend of the Banded Prince, I did the responsible thing.
If you ask the King of Cats about what the Burnished Champion wanted.

I requested that the Ship's Cat and her kittens be given a home. So far, it seems to have panned out well.

I think this is amongst one of the shortest Exceptional Stories but it has been one of the most enjoyable.
Amy story that can make me detest and feel sympathy for a companion has done a good job in my eyes. It's like dealing with your least favourite sibling who is trying to make amends in their own broken way.
I won't miss the Tabby but I hope he's happier in his new form.

So why do the tigers have arms, hold spears, and can use guns?
I feel like there was an oops in here somewhere at least with the tigers with actual arms and spears. The gun-wielding tiger even uses hers and puts a paw on it like she's gonna draw it, I can't even imagine what's going on there.

I was a bit confused too, but inferring from the Tiger Keeper's portrait in hindsight I assumed Fallen London tigers are less...biologically true to life and more Hobbes/Tawky Tawny at edging around being able to do human things

I would think so too, except text at the Labyrinth of Tigers suggests that some of the people you can "give" as tribute are useful precisely BECAUSE the tigers don't have opposable thumbs! E.g. This storylet from the Tribute area on Level 5 of the Labyrinth: "Offer the labour of a zailorThe tigers of the Neath are unusually capable. But even then, they can not operate a ship by themselves without thumbs." edited by cathyr19355 on 3/27/2020

Neath vs. Parabola, perhaps?

The tigers with arms and spears were in the Neath, though.

Sadly there is no option involving the starveling cat throughout the story. I was hoping to ask the king to satiate the poor thing, but alas

I love that reference, by the way.
