I don't know if this the right place to post this, but I think it falls under the header of "asking other players for help"
For the past three days I've been trapped in "A small, velvet lined box" and I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get out. I only get two cards, one of which does nothing, and the other increases my "Recurring Dreams: Burial of the Dead". I've gotten my wounds down to 0, and my nightmares down to 0, and I maxed out that dream, and I feel like I've tried every action and combination of actions and I can't figure out how to get out. Am I just stuck forever? Is there a way I can spend fate to get out? I would totally spend fate so I can get back to playing the game.
[Hi, Chris Gardiner here - I've investigated this and currently it's death, not madness, that allows you to escape the box - I just wanted to edit this info into the first post in case other players in a similar situation came across it and were confused.] edited by Chris Gardiner on 2/14/2012

I would have been happier if it had arrived earlier than my twentieth opportunity card, but I guess even the waiting tops beating yourself to death on a coffin lid.

Honestly, it was my curiosity that got me caught. I was interested in seeing some of the failure text, so I'd do some of the actions without a second chance, just to see it. I lived slightly too dangerously, in the end, but luckily my plant came through.

Yeah, if any reader is not clear on this, only Death or A Green Lodger at 5 or higher can free you from A Small Velvet-Lined Box. Why Death/Not Insanity/Does a spirit exist without a soul and how does your body end up back in you Lodgings is without a clear answer at this time and something one can further discuss here.
Or even more simply for those Light-fingered Ambition seekers, don't get caught in the first place! edited by the truthseeker on 1/4/2015

Hmm... since an important part of my character as I realized it was "putting a priority on never dying, so it can escape Fallen London eventually" maybe I'll just make a new twitter account and start over. Bummer.
Unless of course somebody wants to be a kind angel and put a "get me out of here" option that I can spend fate on.

If you can't go mad while you should, signal the bug to ebbugs@failbettergames.com. Or you could die and then still keep playing, with the priority "getting a sip of Hesperidean Cider" as a new long (loooooooong) -term goal!

...I don't think echoing fate stuff to your journal is against the rules, is it?

I hope not. My notes on various bits of fate-locked stuff are quite substantial.

Yes, death's the only way if your plant isn't strong enough.

I could see, someday, having death rewritten for the soulless.
Be it a short stay in hell, a view from the glass jar your soul is in, another boat, or just a teasing taste to clarify the lore.

I still think it's your mind/consciousness that goes on the boat. Souls are an aspect of yourself, but if you can live without a soul it's pretty clear that it isn't a vital part of you. Not any more than your arm or leg, anyway.

Perhaps it's only some percentage of your soul in the jar, like a lein. So the last scrap is what goes to the boat.
It would be something that could be clarified in a plot someday, and I'd love to see it.

Oh, definitely. I would love to get a clarification on whether there's a solid Body/Mind/Soul trinity in this world or if I'm simply mistaken.
