Probably, at some point. There was a post somewhere about FB looking into ways how this could be implemented, but I can't seem to find it.

Do you have to have a ship to go on scientific expeditions? I'd like to finish up the University storyline, but I'm fairly certain I'll be ejected for my conclusions, and the way back in involves several expeditions. But I'm a long ways from a ship yet (I understand that since I don't have monies, it takes Shadowy 110 and drawing a card to go to Wilmot's and probably lots of other things). So I'm not sure.

Yeah, you're going to have to get a ship to go on expeditions. One thing to remember is that if you want to visit Corpsecage, Bullbone or the Grunting Fen, you're going to have to use one of the Enough Preliminary Research options in your lodgings! I learned the hard way that they're not accessible if you don't have Embarking on a Voyage of Scientific Discovery at the level that those options unlock.
