Thank you for the info. I am also battitudeless and have been for what feels like forever. Time to stock up on favours and then get caught, I guess

I've finished the story on an alt and can confirm it gives a Bat with Attitude.
The story is a fun little adventure that expands on the character of the Dapper Underworld Boss, so I won't spoil that here, but the step-by-step process of obtaining the Battitude is as follows:
1. Go to New Newgate. 1a. Play the card "A Favour for an Old Friend". You need 5 x Favours: Criminals to begin the story.
2. Go into disgraced exile in the Tomb-Colonies. 2a. Play the card "Flowers for Peter" (if I recall the name correctly). You need 5 x Favours: Tomb-Colonists to advance.
3. Return to New Newgate. 3a. Play the card "A Favour for an Old Friend". Congratulations! You have a Bat with Attitude.

Does the story quality get reset after playing it, or is this one time only?

Thank you so much for adding an alternate source for the bat. I converted the only one I had and I'm still without one as well. The RNG dependance actually completely turned me off the game so I canceled my subscription and haven't logged in for a couple weeks. I only came back here to check if anyone else was still in the same boat. Now I can finally move on with this and I see Bag a Legend is also available on my other character, and I also resubscribed and have anther exceptional story to play. This will keep me busy for a while! edited by Monara on 3/28/2020

What is the 1x "A Memory of the Sky" I gained? It's neither in my qualities nor an item I can find, and it didn't have a tooltip. Will this do something when I leave the area?

This is one of the Memories you need to collect to advance the story. You need to find three of the four (the other three are in Port Carnelian, a place of some confusion, and the Mirror-Marches).

The continuation of the ambition uses the "Do you recall?" quality to track this, and I don't remember any of the the other memories doing something like that. The way it was written (you now have 1x A Memory of the Sky) threw me off, making it look like an item. According to what is on the wiki right now one of the others does give a specific quality but when you gain it it shows "You have a memory from deep within" instead of "You now have 1x A Memory of Deep Within". I was hoping there'd be some kind of reward for going after the hardest one, which is why I paid extra attention to it. I guess it's just a hidden quality that does nothing but give some flavor text when gaining it, but they forgot to set the text for gaining it on this one so it defaults to the current message.
Edit: I'm curious if anyone went the Ravenglass Knife route instead of Skyglass and echo'd it. Any advantage to taking that option or interesting text? edited by Monara on 4/6/2020

I remember seeing the text once: it's the exact same text, but they replace 777 with 77. I heard that originally, the knives option will cause you to lose ALL YOUR KNIVES upon failure, and it was only a few hours afterward that they changed it to losing just 1/7 of them. The Ravenglass Knives option was therefore a way to spend a lot more echoes to prevent failure on an even bigger scale, but now its just very expensive.

It is true that failure originally cost all of your knives, and it was changed within a couple hours of release (this has been somewhat affectionately dubbed "Knifegate"), but the Ravenglass Knife option has always been available.

Arrgh. But I did the content very soon after it came out. Not sure whether they had fixed the option so that you wouldn't lose all your knives upon failure, but maybe now I can claim just to have been impatient, not stupid, for choosing the expensive. (Next time I'll do the math first!)
