Alas my astral-travelling dabbler dilletante ways were knot crossed with a Surface Friend's dire woes, and my own Writer's Block or dream reveries unyoked ... Well, thus, i all but sleptwalked nigh all Hallows - (and HallowEve, my Birthday, tsk) -- NEXT Year, i'll have a real go! - meanwhile, must hope to aquire vicarious Lore, gradually, sigh... Gained a "moinkey', and a "squidgy-cat" - well, "trick-or-treat", the northern americans say....

So. Asked, elsewhere about "Lacre Laboratory" creature creations / splices ( https://community.failbettergames.com/topic9385-forum-game-ask-the-character.aspx?page=76#post242422 ) - and, so: for Hallows : A jaunty, jagged bear-trap-bite JAG-O-LANTERN-SPIDER : (teeth need depth, yet & colours went a bit "carrot" on me, really - done by candlelight) :

from Psmyth's Sketchbooks - "JAG-O-LANTERN-SPIDER - in four spectra -"

Like others I failed to upgrade any companions this time, due to misreading the directions. I think they need to make that a bit clearer next time. I'm not all that miffed though, as I don't think anything would have been an upgrade for my character, she's been around quite a while.

Agreed. I had misunderstood the guidance and had saved my confessions until after the seventh.

I’m honestly not bummed about that so much - really bummed that didn’t churn enough Spirit. It would have been a great way to pick up some very hard-to-source items.

I understand why the instructions were confusing to those for whom this was their first Hallowmas, but I'm surprised players with prior Hallowmas experience were confused too. The timeline has been relatively constant over the last few years.

*shrugs*

They changed things this year. And if this many have expressed a different interpretation than what was intended, than the guidance could benefit from massaging next year.

I agree with both Optimatum and Jason: While I didn't misunderstand anything, as a long-time player I honestly just skimmed the guidelines anyway and played the festival based on experience. It's true that they're always run in relatively the same way, even when content changes.

But if a significant number of people misunderstood things (and we have more than a handful in this thread alone, I think), then the phrasing just wasn't clear enough. I feel for everyone who "failed" this Hallowmas just because of that! upset

What a great Hallowmas! Interesting new content, a real sense of atmosphere, and lots of varied rewards. Even though I got sick towards the end and missed some spirit-grinding I'd intended to do, I still feel like what I got was very satisfying, without being excessive. I'm especially excited about the new affiliation/card. Thank you, Failbetter!

Well personally, I missed it last year because I was in hospital, and I can't remember all that much about the ones earlier than that. But it isn't a big deal, I'm not upset, in fact I thought it was really good. Like enail above, I really enjoyed the fact that you could get a new affiliation and card from the experience. Be nice if we had more stuff like that in the future.

Only regret I have is that I wasn’t able to turn in my confessions after the 7th for the companion changes/upgrades. Was holding onto to them until I was able to get everyone to do so.
Wish I noticed the end date too in-game as well. I didn’t know about the end dates until I checked these forums just now.

I enjoyed this Hallowmas. If I'd been able to buy ES status I would have had more Spirit and gotten more material rewards. But the Masques were enjoyable, the returns on Spirit were good, and I was able to afford all the Companions I really wanted.

Well,I liked this Hallowmas.
First thing, finally we have the masks (even if they are qualities and not items)for the feast of masks.
I liked the companions' upgrades this year. The different art for upgrades is a welcome back feature.
I fairly enjoyed the spirit grind; too bad I hadn't much time to raise my spirit enough to get the three Elements of Dawn.

I hope in the future notable londoners will come back too, maybe they could give you some of the 13 free confessions.

I missed a little the "Mayor wants confessions" part, but I also think this year I should have gone for the companions and not for the weapon.

Finally, If I'm not wrong, no Huffman this year. I'll miss him and I hope he'll come back in the future with the Hallowmas Edition.

I also missed Huffman. Fancy having him interview you about your exploits at your favorite Masque!

Add me to the choir of those who miss Huffam. His interviews were always a delight and let us learn a little more about the involved parties. The Hallowmas edition of the Gazette is sorely missed.

I thought some sort of upgrade for this year's Hallowmas was still coming up. It has always taken them a week or two to implement it...

I can never remember things from one year to the next - do Confessions expire if unused, or can they be saved for next time?

So I didn't miss the Hallowmas Gazette? I was certain I must have, but I've . been logging in every day.

FBG seems to have chosen not to have a Hallowmas Gazette but to conduct more...private activities. But I would be really happy to be proven wrong about this!

-:- ""FBG seems to have chosen not to have a Hallowmas Gazette but to conduct more...private activities."" -:-

Most intruiging ellipsis, Lady Catherine - might you ellaborate, or specify, slightly - perhap in spoiler aside - as to these "private activities", mayhap?

Curious & curiouser, as, i too looked forward to some active Journalism and Press to engage with, this season - AND, having rather sloughed off most of the Hallows, inadverdantly, i would savour lingering resolves and reviews of the Festivities - OR, even, merely to cultivate whatever these "activities" may be.

Ah, also - do we know what will become of any Masque Masks we yet have as "Seasonal" attributes? Have but an un-masqued Demon-face, myself - would really have prefferred to have started with the Moth guise - as i failed to attend any masque, nevermind the "trifecta" of all three. Thus, a souvenier mask is welcome - much as i'd hope to trade one for another. Will they remain, or be returned to their vendors, as a cached civic resource, does anyone know?
