The Feast of the Exceptional Rose is upon us! Show your affection or scorn through unexpected and creative gifts! Love is as faceted as the jewel in a betrothal-ring. What will the season have in store for you?

Rewards from the Feast can be won by increasing Masquing. Raise your Masquing through participating in the revels and the exchange of gifts. Later in the festival, use Masquing to unlock unique companions.
Discover all the festival has to offer on the Celebrate the Feast of the Exceptional Rose card, available throughout London.
Discuss the festival or make friends for the exchange of gifts via the dedicated posts on Facebook and Reddit, the tag #flfeastgifts on Twitter and Tumblr, in the dedicated thread here on the forums and on our Official Fan Discord.
New Companions
Companions in Fallen London - be they romantic, platonic, animal or mineral - offer boosts to your stats, and little stories. The Feast of the Exceptional Rose is an ideal opportunity to meet new ones.
This year there are half a dozen new companions to choose from, some available in exchange for Masquing:
- Discuss music with the Clay Curmudgeon
- Take a turn with the Jovial Contrarian
- Take your chances with An Impenitent Devil
And for Masquing plus Fate:
- Go somewhere secluded with The Intrepid Deacon
- Visit the cathedral with A Lovelorn Bishop
- Join the throng of suitors at the feet of the Captivating Princess
To discover the Intrepid Deacon’s story before engaging in the Feast festivities, play For All the Saints Who from their Labours Rest, an Exceptional Story available from the Fate page or from Celebrate the Feast of the Exceptional Rose.
Tokens of Love
Exchange gifts with other players to show them the truth of your heart! Or something more enigmatic. A glass of teeth by any other name would rattle as sweetly.
New gifts for this Feast:
- An Unblemished Exile’s Rose, plucked from Hell
- A Liberalian Mask, signifying the excesses of the libertine
- A Lemurian's Mask, a Hallowmas relic
- A Lupercalian Mask - the mask of the lover
- A Set of Martyr’s Bones
Your accrued gifts can be kept for sentimental reasons, or exchanged for different amounts of Masquing.
The Lady in Lilac
“You are desired,” she says. “Give me the proof of it, and I’ll make arrangements.”
The enigmatic Lady in Lilac visits London during the Feast of the Exceptional Rose.
From the 13th of February (Update: now live!), you will be able to draw the Lady in Lilac from your opportunity deck, allowing you to trade in your feast-gifts for Masquing. You’ll also be able to turn in your Masquing for special companions on the Encounters at the Feast card.
The Lady in Lilac and Encounters at the Feast will remain available until the 25th of February, after which your remaining Masquing will be converted to Making Waves when Time, the Healer visits.
Skin-bound Memories
How better to prove your devotion than through permanent ink? High time for a visit to Clathermont’s Tattoo Parlour!
A unique story involving the Neath’s famed tattooists is available for the duration of the Feast. Find the Clathermonts in Ladybones Road when you have A Name in Seven Secret Alphabets at 4 or higher. Continue this story from the same area by playing News at Clathermont’s from 13th February.
Premium Story: The Ceremony
A spate of exquisite and unpleasant transformations sweeps London: new Rubbery enhancements of a drastic degree. What lies behind the tentacles? What secrets are hidden within the spiraling bones? Who is the Gilded Sacrifice?
This winter’s premium story by Cass Khaw is now available on the Fate page, for 35 Fate.
New Merchandise: Clathermont's Art Print
The Clathermont Family’s Tattoo Parlour is the toast of Ladybones Road. Advertise on their behalf with this art print from our merchandise partner, GameTee! This artwork, which illuminates some of the designs available to the passing punter, is an A3 print which ships rolled.
---
Your key dates for the festival are:
6th February - Festival Opens 13th February - Lilac arrives and Masquing can be exchanged for companions 20th February - Gift-giving and general feast activities close 25th February - Exchanging gifts for Masquing, the Clathermont story and meeting companions close edited by h4nchan on 2/13/2019

There's two new items tied for BiS BDR. The Lupercalian Mask is a +5 Shadowy, +2 Bizarre hat; the Set of Martyr's Bones is a +5 Shadowy, +2 Respectable home comfort.

I can confirm that the send-and-cancel trick works for all the new Fate gifts. It also works for the two new free gifts for some reason, but don't rely on that staying.

Maybe I should just give up on this.
If I understand it right some preexisting characters are being added as companions, which gets them a bit more story, and people seem pleased by this. Understandably so.

Interesting how the most expensive companions are consistently quite far from BiS (not even tying). Which I do quite like: it means that only people who truly want them will pay, leaving satisfied customers, rather than having min-maxers feel obligated to spend large amounts of fate.
Anyway, would anybody happen to have an echo of the Bishop? I'm considering going for him - I did vote for him, after all - but I'd like to know a bit more about the context. edited by Dudebro Pyro on 2/14/2019

Heh. The Incognito Princess' portrait is so buggy that it presents whatever portrait your cursor passed over before moving onto it instead of the Princess' face. So with the magic of Mac screencaps and careful maneuvering of the cursor I now have a weasel, an Ubergoat and the Jovial Contrarian all declaring that "People will cry when I pass by. You will become used to it"

Thought it would be useful to collate prices for the new companions for all your planning purposes. I don't have stats for most of them yet, but if there are people willing to share, we'd all be appreciative.
Curious Contrarian (3 Masquing): The Jovial Contrarian (+2 Watchful, +2 Persuasive)
The Impertinent Devil (3 Masquing): The Repentant Devil, Sunless Skies (+2 Dangerous, +2 Persuasive)
Clay Curmudgeon (3 Masquing): The Clay Conductor, Sunless Skies (+3 Watchful, +1 Dreaded)
Intrepid Deacon (40 Masquing, 10 Fate): The Intrepid Deacon, "For All the Saints Who From Their Labours Rest" (+6 Watchful, +5 Persuasive, +1 Dreaded)
About the Intrepid Deacon, there is a quality check for "The March of the Saints", which I imagine will change the text somewhat (though that makes me wonder if seducing the Deacon during the story will have an impact on the text). My quality is at 250 from
tempting the Deacon to Hell and venerating the unknown hanged soldiers.
I'd be interested in seeing what textual changes occur for those with alternative results.
Lovelorn Bishop (60 Masquing, 30 Fate): The Bishop of Southwark (Dangerous, Persuasive, Respectable)
Incognito Princess (100 Masquing, 70 Fate): The Captivating Princess (Persuasive, Dangerous, Respectable)
Altogether, though, these prices are very reasonable, in my opinion. I was anticipating much higher prices (around 80 for the Deacon, since he's a popular and well-written character that people would be willing to pay a higher price for), but this is a welcome surprise. edited by Azothi on 2/13/2019

I also find the Lupercalian mask a puzzling addition. I mean, let's review:
30 fate: Mouthless amber mask, 2 shadowy, 1 dreaded, 1 bizarre 40 fate: Tanned mask, 7 shadowy, 2 dreaded
And now we have for 40 fate: Lupercalian mask, 5 shadowy, 2 bizarre.
I mean, unless you REALLY want all the bizarre you can get instead of dreaded for whatever reason, this seems like a very bad deal. Almost anyone would either go for the same BDR for less fate, or the higher shadowy for the same fate.

To be honest, keeping the two Singer cards in hand effectively brings a 5-card lodging down to a 3-card, so at that point you're better off just moving to a Remote Address and getting rid of a few other City Vices cards as well (which are slightly less frequent but by no means rare, either).

Not exactly. Five cards are perfect for Heists and for Polite Invitations. On the other hand, I am myself at Remote Address now, as City Vices annoy me deeply.

I know this festival is about looking for something that's hard to find, but I really gotta say... I was not expecting to work up such an appetite.
Did you know it's possible to accidentally un-become Freed of the Name? I did not know this! There are rare successes potentially hiding in every gift-wrapped package, daring you to open them. Maybe you'll be surprised and find something that you haven't seen before, and didn't even know existed.
I wish the rest of you the best of luck! Which in some cases means finding what you're looking for, and in other cases does not.

If you already have people to send stuff to, just use the options in the Feast of the Rose pinned storylet to send them. The non-Fate ones cost items, which you may have to grind. Let me know if there's anything specific or if I haven't answered your real question.

Want to remind you all that this time of the year, you can get rid of the devils by skipping to the end of the An Intimate of Devils story without selling your soul. Using one of the Feast card's option (from A dance with devils! branch), you gain, on average 0.8 CP of the required quality and to get from level 13 to level 18 you need 80 CP so, on average 100 cards.
Oh. Well. I guess I SHOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN MY CHANCES WITH A DEVILESS TWO DAYS AGO, THEN, SHOULD I? It's also possible to raise An Intimate of Devils beyond 20 this year. Mine is at twenty (why?!...), and I gained CP from the action. Also, you can get to 15 without risk, if you skip all Serious Offers. I tried to do that.

So... since I don't want to make mistakes... the best course is to exchange gifts for masquing up to 30... get the extra from exchanging Fate-locked masquing gifts... and then deliver the masquing to the Lady in Lilac after the 13th to get the deac... eh, the companion you want?

It's been quite some years since I was at the stage of the game where you are, so I'm honestly not sure what sources you have access to for the Influence/Mysteries/Nostalgia/Infernal items that you would then spend on gifts. Look around London for actions that give you Stolen Correspondence, Whispered Secrets, Cryptic Clues, Drops of Prisoner's Honey, and Souls that you can up-convert, I suppose. Or sell off items you have less use for and use the proceeds to buy them.

I'm pretty sure the Jovial Contrarian would resent being called a faceless goon and would argue with you at length about it. And if the poster image is anything to go by, the Impenitent Devil is the same character as the Repentant Devil from Sunless Skies. These are definitely not characters without story.
And honestly? I don't remember the Missionary/Firebrand had a lot of additions to them either last year, unless you're one of those people who want to marry them badly.

And a thread in this forum too! Plus, lots of people here are available to roleplay or simply exchange gifts. You can also gather echoes, get rid of the devils, and so on and so forth.

I'd like to make a general announcement that, because I don't have much Fate or the spare funds to acquire it right now, I'm willing to draw art in exchange for Fate-gifts. Here's my Tumblr post about it to explain in greater detail: http://thescarletpaperback.tumblr.com/post/182604470507/to-people-who-play-fallen-london-and-have-fate-to. I've done art-Fate trades before in past Feasts and everybody I've made them with has come away satisfied!

To be honest, I went with the Tanned mask 2 years ago for the extra shadow boost! But regarding the two 40 F masks, we must remember that this game isn't symmetrical. If there's good reason, no matter of its nature, to get the Lupercalian mask, people will get it! I will probably pay for something that isn't a BiS just because it suits my character. I have other games to min-max. Talking only about min-max, you point is more than valid specially for those that picked the election hat! Even more, you need bigger skills for more renown, but, talking about a hat, the bonus is canceled by the moods!

I think the Deacon loves the player character no matter what. There are only two kinds of realities: One where that love has been explicitly returned on a particular train ride (and he'll now feel free to give you "a sharp, hungry" kiss) and one where it hasn't (but he still thinks of you with "infinite fondness").

I agree with Elderfleur's answer, though I do see your point too. The feeling of the text is indeed geared towards romance, with or without kiss.On the other hand, you can consider you went to Hell and back together. And you became the person to show him his true calling. Infinite fondness can exist between friends and comrades-at-arms. I imagine that between two presumably straight Victorian gentlemen though the text does reas a bit too heavy with innuendo. edited by Jolanda Swan on 2/23/2019

I'm kind of late considering Lilac is gone now, but it's the first; 1 CP of MW per Masquing, converting them into Stolen Kisses is a better deal.
Also I have (across several accounts): 144 ushabtiu, 77 cats, 77 glasses of teeth, 52 cards, 11 gifts of scorns...

If one has a mild tolerance for Nightmares, sneaking up on the Duchess is passably profitable so long as the rare success is at least 9% (2.24 EPA and a bit of Connected). Unfortunately I only have 8 data points, so my 12.5% (2.74 EPA) running estimate isn't especially conclusive, although "about 10%" feels accurate.

Trick I figured out this time around: For the crappy airs values, you can use one of the 0 action cost options then "Perhaps not" out. This rerolls your airs for 0 action cost and discards the card. Since it's so frequent it's probably better than keeping it in your hand.

I am wondering why I haven`t drawn the Lady in Lilac Card even once since the start on 13th. Also I got the Encounter at the feat only one time in all three days. Up to now I estimate to have drawn >100 cards since 13th which can`t be normal.
If luck is the key, it seems that I really travel the wheel of misfortune for the time being, concerning the Lady in Lilac. Curiously I get the Feast of the rose card aproximately every 5th-7h card, although I am capped since 2 days on masking. If you want to optimize your chances to meet the Lady in Lilac, you can park the most frequently appearing cards, including "The Feast of the Rose!", and use only one slot to actually flip the cards. The hardest part here is to resist the urge to discard all the parked stuff, but this can help in the long run.
I also don't know whether you've finished with Acquaintance: the Captivating Princess or haven't. If the quality level is <2, then some Dreadful Surmises are still waiting for you in exchange for 15 Masquing each! edited by Mr Coltrane on 2/16/2019

I've been doing deck resets since the second week begun and the Encounter card, despite being listed as Frequent Frequency or twice of normal frequency, is still rarer than some other cards. This is not the only year people have complained about the frequency of the Encounter and Lilac cards, yet FBG still hasn't done anything about it.

I personally dislike "they will be pinned" when I'm an active player who flips cards as long as I'm awake. It feels like a forced last effort attempt when I feel it's supposed to be geared toward more people who can't play regularly.

I'm aware of the deck behavior, and I'm expecting a fix for that is in FBG's schedule since they've confirmed it. I keep the Singer card and such in my hand to prevent those cards from showing up (I use a five cards hand), but still the Encounter card doesn't show up frequent enough compared to lodging cards and such, for something that's labeled as Frequent Frequency. What I'm saying is that frequency is clearly not enough judging from the yearly complains, and since the number of companions we can get each year grows, it makes it harder for someone's first Feast to get them all unless they manage to stockpile a huge number of gifts in case the deck RNG loathes them. edited by silurica on 2/16/2019

Good to know, thanks. And as I understand it, none of them has any stat that even reaches, let alone exceeds, 10? So lacking any mechanical relevance, it's purely a matter of who you like the idea of having hanging around you. And the text while unlocking them is the only story content associated with any of them?
Looking at the lineup of Fate companions, none of them particularly tickles my fancy. A couple of them are somewhat interesting, but hardly at the cost of a full story, let alone two. The Cheery Man's cane would be quite good for duels, but it still falls short of Feducci's lance... maybe I'll just pass on the rest for now, then. edited by Tsar Koschei on 2/16/2019
