Before December starts I really oughtta ask:

I know you have to be in London to capitalize on the Twelve Days of Mr Sacks, but can I claim advent calendar rewards overzees? Would probably be a good idea to get in a few more rounds of orphan trading before the batty nomen show up.

We spend some time in November looking at various event calendars in December to figure out what we'll try to schedule, and then surprise the kids with things based on how busy we're likely to be and what the budget allows.

The Christmas season lasts *three straight months*.

If you're counting store advertisers, maybe. But why are you doing that? Anyone who puts up Halloween displays in August, red hearts on 2 January, and Easter eggs before Lent clearly has no right to assert calendrical authority.

However, the Christmas season (as distinct from the midwinter shopping seasons) has clearly delimited boundaries. Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas Day (usually the Sunday after Thanksgiving here in the U.S., but not always) and lasts until Christmas Eve. Christmas itself begins the next morning and ends on Twelfth Night (which, back in the day, was when all the fun parties happened). That's a total of 5-6 weeks, variable by the weekday on which Christmas Day falls. For those without religious interest it's even shorter, since first thing on Boxing Day their minds are on gift returns, champagne flutes, and ridiculous glasses in the shape of 2019.

Isaac Gates wrote:

If all you're getting out of Christmas are Hallmark movies, twinkle lights, and Irving Berlin, I perhaps can understand the hyperbolic disparagement. It does, however, rather give the impression of cynicism for cynicism's sake.

The Sackmas “taketh vs. giveth away” philosophy is priceless, and a great 12 days of content. Over and above 25 days of Advent freebies, pails of snow, blocked Lodgings doors, incarnadine robes, a plethora of home comforts, Penstock’s Wicket, exclusive items, nomen, great lore, a holiday story, oh my! Where does it end? It’s nearly two months of content without the tacky decorations, obnoxious ad campaigns, awful movies, paint by numbers TV specials, lame songs, and saccharine sentimentality.

If it's one where I can inconvenience the Princess, then I'm in.

No, seriously, you misunderstand: when asked during the Election which of them I'd be on an island with, I chose the Princess. And not for the reasons you'd think! Of bloody course she's going to eat me, but it means the Princess is trapped on an island and if that's all I do with my life, then I'm content!

...And yet she insists on finding me "charming" and "amusing." You're not supposed to laugh at my biting quips, you, you... misbegotten relic of Surface imperialism, you!

Every year they send us a rat. Every year I forget that they do that. Every year I have a small heart attack as I get given an item that might just randomly take my stockpile of currently 35,000 mourning candles. I really need to remember next year. Happy Ratmas.

If they're implemented like in previous year(s), each daily gift gets into your account as an access code. These have been applied in very strange places (I've just successfully applied one at Zee to test it out), so the Elder Continent should still be acceptable.

But, given a new site with new capabilities, it's possible things might be handled differently this year. As the warning goes, make assumptions based on previous years at your own risk.

The white candle art is also used in "Cast out the tomb-colonists" on their faction card, but that's a very niche location.

Or, it might lock you out of meeting her at the Feast (*if the mechanics stay the same*), which is the much better way to make her acquaintance (from both story and reward perspective)

I think if I read the original message correctly, the "old acc" in question is in a place where they're not going to be attending any Feasts any time soon... or ever.

Not to worry! Once it's in your inventory, you can choose the option that lets you ask the Scuttering Company take the Rat of Glory away.

By the way, if anyone has had their Rat Of Glory activate, how many candles did you lose? All of them? All of some types? Or a mixture?

To be honest, it is a pretty big spoiler. Two years ago, I knew nothing about the lore. I had never played Sunless Sea, and I had no idea who the Merchant Venturer was. My main at the time (now gone) had only just begun Seeking about a month before, and I knew from spoilers that the story ended at the High Gate but that what lay beyond was unknown. It was a huge revelation.

Today's code gives you 1 point of Taste of Lacre, uncapped. Remember that the code will work for five days - if Time the Healer is already lurking around your corner, and you can still get some ToL out of Pails, you might want to wait with using this code.

Example: you're currently at ToL 5, you have the Monocle and 10 SotC and TtH comes around tomorrow. Wait for TtH, get your Pail, jump from 5 to 8 ToL, then use today's code.

That worked, thank you, dov! Both messages appeared this time. Maybe the issue was related to why FL has been crashin on my iPad (Safari) every five actions or so in the last few days - I'll submit a ticket.

This is good information. I think there's a pervasive fear by many that it could activate at random while sitting idle in your inventory. I had interpreted that as a possibility based upon the text.

I've seen 2 activations ever, both times I lost <100 out of 60,000-100,000 foxfire candles and had no other candles except a few mourning candles which I also lost. According to the wiki it's a random number between 1-[amount owned] so I might have been lucky with the foxfires.
The first time it happened I thought I could avoid it by using second chances and backing out on failure. Turns out it's a rare "success" so that doesn't work.

P.S. today's gift is a pail of snow, don't miss it!

If the Feast mechanics stay the same, then yes it does.

(And since this Advent code gives you the Acquaintance in case you didn't have it before, the game really has no way to know how you got the quality. So I see no way for the option of meeting her at the Feast to be available, unless *everyone* gets to meet her again "for the first time" for some reason).
