Closest To: XYZ Messages in this topic - RSS

Did Failbetter ever give an ETA on the other "Closest To" options alluded to in various storylets? IE: The Duchess, The Masters of the Bazaar, The Rubbery Men, etc.?

Or is that just one of those things that got lost in the shuffle I shouldn't hold out much hope for? I mean, being a Bishop with close personal ties to hell is all well & good but I'd like to switch over to the Rubberies if I could considering I married one.

On a related note, assuming it was open season and you could become closest to *any* canonical faction (or patron considering the Duchess is/was on the docket), what would you go for?

(Personally I'd go for the Fingerkings on account of my destiny.)

Those have been possible "Closest to" values since the quality was added, so don't hold your breath. It's plausible that we'll get Closest to: Rubbery Men eventually, since they do now have a faction card, but the rest are highly unlikely.

Unfortunate. Didn't realize that the Rubberies having a faction card was a recent thing though... wonder if anyone's actually hit the max renown threshold with them yet.

Several people have announced on here that they have achieved 50 renown for all factions. Certainly many will have the underground organ available at 40 renown. I myself also have that pleasure.

I'm impressed! How did you achieve that? Lots of saved-up Mood cards?

"Recent" in relative terms, but yes. The current faction card was originally two different cards, which were combined after Rubberies were converted to Renown.

Renown 100 requires a modified stat of 596, so moods are very much insufficient. While it could theoretically be done through paying to repeat stories with uncapped stat gains (most of which have been patched out), in practice it means repeatedly playing Exceptional Stories that give a small amount of Renown in the ending.

When Connected was converted to Renown, the amount of Renown you received was dependent on the amount of Connected you had. If you had a massive amount of Conencted, you could reach past the effective Renown cap.

Actually, when the Connected->Renown was done, 50 was the conversion cap, which led people to erroneously assume for a short while that it is a hard-cap.

As for Renown 100, that's not me but Miss Nero Keller.
