Question about background and ambition

I'm on my first game, just figuring things out as I go. I've died a few times, stuck with the 'Find your father's bones' ambition each time, but changed my origin with a few of the captains and noticed the initial story changed. I was just curious, without delving into spoilers, does each ambition start to finish change significantly based on background? Or is it only a few details starting out?

The latter. Background doesn't have much impact on gameplay apart from the freebie officer you get at the beginning.

Your Father's Bones is a bit of an exception, though - different background's versions do have at least a few different story beats and even different possible endings.
