Notability Grind Question Messages in this topic - RSS

Sooo, I'm back to grinding echoes with orphans and expect to be (understandably) bored until december rolls around and I have a new exceptional story and seasonal events to keep my occupied, and I had a question.

I'm saving all this money up to become a paramount presence which requires an equally lengthy notability grind, and what I'm wondering is: approximately how many "engaged in a scheme: salon/orphanage" points should I expect to burn through before getting notability up to 15? Meaning, how high should I get the value before I start in earnest?

Worth noting my notability is sitting at 6 at the moment just from passively picking up notability from item tradeups and opportunity cards. Oh, and also I picked Salon, have the Captivating Princess as an aquaintance and *do* have a small fate surplus I could spend on her as a guest if needs be.

The answer to this depends heavily on your BDR. It also depends on whether you want to use your actions to grind MW while you wait the Townhouse card to come up.

Generally speaking, you get 200 CP of MW for 15 CP of scheme via inviting a Crooked-Cross. Inviting the Princess isn't cost-effective, because it gives so many MW that most are wasted (since you have to individually raise your Notability from 12 to 13, 13 to 14, etc).

Right, by the time I start I should have BDR 31.

(And good to know, if I've learned anything it's that it's always worth having a bit of fate stockpiled.)

I'm using the Princess to get Notability 13-15. Although this approach takes a long time and is MW wasteful, I never have to worry about a large-but-not-quite-large-enough MW pile getting halved. I also get to use many Actions and resources I would expend on grinding MWs to engage in alternative undertakings.

I'm not recommending this approach for everyone, but it is the one I like.

FWIW, I had my Salon scheme at around 36, with BDR 27 and it was roughly sufficient, though I did make a few mistakes here and there on the grind. It was a lot of invitations to my very kind and cooperative Crooked Cross friends, quite a bit of sideways conversions and a few investments in assorted lodgings, but I got all London Organism items about the same time my scheme dropped below 10.

I'm grinding Paramount Presence now, and it's my opinion that the Captivating Princess isn't worth it. I've been maintaining my Salon at around 15-17 and using it (once my Notability is 10+; it's a waste at lower levels) when high-value visitors are available. The Princess will indeed make Notability 14 and 15 easier, but at a significant Salon cost (and getting to 20 is by no means easy, since you're at the mercy of several card draws).

I personally HATE waiting for cards, so I've found that the item conversion carousel is the way to go. Getting to Notability 11 without grinding at all is easy. From there, it takes about a week of actions for me to get to 13, and another week to get 14 or 15 (depending on where my massive stockpiles of items are on the carousel). If I have to take an off-week to move thousands of items through the dead zone in the middle of the carousel, I pop into the Shuttered Palace to crank out Carnelian ballets.

I've done some spreadsheeting. If your BDR is 20, then 30 scheme is enough to 'carry' you the whole way there. With BDR 31 (yikes!) it's going to be a fair bit less - but the major part of those scheme levels is in the last two levels, so it's probably only knocking a couple off.

I've used the Princess to get Notability 15 once when I was in a hurry and had the points in my Salon scheme already. But otherwise I'd use item conversions to reach 12, maybe 13 if I'm not stuck with all my tier 3 items at the start of the carousel dead zone - like I am right now upset - and then probably grind some Zee Weddings for the remaining Notability points.

Edit: Of course, if you're attached to your spouse then repeatedly divorcing and marrying another player isn't an option. In my case, I told my Devout Intriguer spouse to jog on and started a new life of many, many weddings. smile

No chance, I spent way too much fate on my rubbery wife. Besides which she gives me 3 BDR, the rubberies are my favorite faction & rubbery sex is *amazing* (or so I imagine- even sans the amber by product :P).
