It's probably entirely too early to bring up Christmas, but given that seasonal gaming events are one of the few things I like about that overlong & sickly sweet holiday... screw it. Couple a things:
1) Apart from the possibility of sacrificing one to the well while seeking the name, exactly what use is a Noman? It seems odd that it'd have no use other than being an extremely ill fated companion with decent stats.
Also what's the record on keeping one alive, has anyone ever actually made it all the way to the following holiday season- or is that a mathematical impossibility?
2) I know that the "putting the pieces together: lacre" quality has a multitude of potential payoffs at the end of the season and that it's very easy for a late game character to acquire points via the twelve days of Mr Sacks, but I'm curious about the potential applications of the buckets of "snow" themselves. Obviously the Noman is one thing to do with a bunch of it, but presuming I don't wanna watch dark fantasy Frosty the Snowman slowly disintegrate, what are the best uses for the stuff? 'Cause absent any better alternatives I'm probably just going to feed them to a succession of numbered Talkative Rattus Faber hoping to Frankenstein one into a horrifying miniature pseudo-bazaar crab.

1. If you give up enough of your quirks to help aid your Noman's growth, they will eventually burst like a pinata with an Elemental Secret, which is worth over 300 echoes. The other use of the Noman for end-game players is to obtain the Noman tattoo for the Feast of the Exceptional Rose. This, however, is incredibly difficult as the Noman's health will keep dropping each week and more and more items must be used to keep it alive long enough to reach the Lady in Lilac.
I've heard that someone has managed to keep a Noman alive as long as March, but it is usually not worth it, even for the unique tattoo, due to the amount of pails and Tears you will need.
2. Pails can be used to increase your Correspondence quality through research, or you can feed it to a monkey or rat to get an unique pet, the Dark-Carapaced Crustacean. Other than that, you can use it for social actions, to satisfy curiousity, or to get the Taste of Lacre (trading 7 in the Nadir can give you a Tear).

Here's a thread tracking Noman survival ... they can, indeed, last well into March.

And here's a short guide on how to keep it alive to get a Gant tattoo. Do note that things may change so better be prepared for such a thing!

There have been a few people over the last couple years that have had their Nomans (Nomen?) live until springtime. It actually isn't as difficult as it first seems, as long as you start preparing in time. As for keeping it alive until the next year's holiday season, I did some number crunching earlier this year to see how it would work out:

Although since then it's gotten much easier to grind Pails of Snow (due to the Court of the Wakeful Eye), so the balance might shift to using more Pails than Tears.

The Noman content is, to me, some of the most heartbreaking in the game. It's worth experiencing. The tattoo has historically been easy to get if you casually work up the items over a year or madly grind them over a shorter period.
Surprised no one has mentioned that Taste of Lacre is also used to buy top-end housing on the cheap...

I already know, I had to sell my soul recently specifically for that reason.
