So I'm inching my way to becoming a paramount presence, and my preference when it comes to the "London's Blood" branch of the storylet would be to answer that I cherish my luxuries most. I already live in the spires of the Bazaar and getting a suite at the Royal Bethlehem will be a triviality by the end of my orphan echo grind- but there's an issue with the sanctum at the Brass Embassy. I already have a key to a guest room, but the upgrade is problematic. Given that I'd rather not grind out 3200 scrap and I made my decision of who to sell the location of the cave of Nadir to without checking the rewards first and got *royally* screwed (seriously it is absurd how disproportionate the payoff for those options is), my only real recourse is to cash in the taste of lacre at Christmas. Thing is that option involves having my very own infernal contract- and I'm much more partial to selling *other* people's souls than my own (I've been ducking the Quiet Deviless and her compatriot for god knows how long for that very reason). Now I'm aware that it's possible to get my soul back after I sell it, but my question is this: if I *do* sell my soul then track it back down, do I lose the contract and negate the entire purpose of the exercise? edited by Isaac Gates on 11/2/2018

You need the contract to acquire the lodgings, not to keep it. Once you've got it, you can reacquire your soul without affecting your level of infernal luxury. (N.B. My main character is a soul shepherd, and insists that I tell you selling your soul is immensely unwise. Public service announcement over.)

(Also my main is a spirifer and my alt is a seeker so the warning is kind of wasted on me. :P) edited by Isaac Gates on 11/2/2018 You will lose the contract. You will not lose the lodgings.
And to be fair, it is very unwise to sell your soul as a Seeker.

Yes. "Your very own infernal contract" is the quality that tracks whether you've lost your soul or not. Having it means you're soulless, and regaining your souls shreds the contract.

One last thing. Now that I'm unencumbered by a soul, I understand the devils will give me a hard time in the forgotten quarter. There's a misunderstanding here, I think. The Grand Hunt will come after you if you sell Hell a stained soul, because stained souls are physically repulsive to devils. The only way to stain your soul is through Seeking. If your character has no stains on their soul, then the devils will not trouble you in the Forgotten Quarter.
EDIT: Though to answer your question, successfully evading the Grand Hunt has you escape into insanity, whereas being caught by the Grand Hunt returns your soul and also kills you and drives you insane. The Grand Hunt doesn't mess around. edited by Azothi on 11/3/2018

Alright then, I guess I'm going to have to go soulless for a while... the upside is if I sell to the Deviless or her counterpart I'll never have to draw those opportunity cards ever again.
(The fact that I can't just choose to do so outright seems idiotic though. Now I have to go through the process 9ish times before I can get the card I need to soul up again. -.-) In fairness to the story, devils won't just abstract anybody. It's a deeply intimate ritual. Since you've played the Soul Trade, you can sell your soul outright and for more profit (a Fabulous Diamond, worth 312.50 Echoes) on the City Vices: What profit? card, which represents you just choosing to outright sell your soul.
Besides, Intimate of Devils is useful for Church favours, making it a very profitable card (~2.1 EPA), the ~ fuzziness being from the need to purge yourself of Hell favours.

But that option doesn't keep those pesky devils away if you happen to get your soul back. It's only by selling directly to one of those two insistent suitors that you can get rid of them for good.

One last thing. Now that I'm unencumbered by a soul, I understand the devils will give me a hard time in the forgotten quarter. So two quick questions:
1) How high does my shadowy need to be to guarantee a 100% success rate evading them?
2) Can I still access all the storylets in the forgotten quarter once I pass said check? edited by Isaac Gates on 11/2/2018

Given that you're already past the point and now have Your Very Own Infernal Contract, then the information on https://fallenlondon.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Your_very_own_Infernal_Contract might help to answer your query about the Forgotten Quarter stuff.
