μαρσ' morning today starts like any other, waking up in their room in the Royal Beth, picking a suitable outfit for today, checking their mailbox and greeting the Flamboyant Porter on their way out. They went to the market of Spite, ate some Roasted Chestnuts and took a few turns to climb on a overgrown ladder to traverse the Flit. After checking up on their Orphanage through its rooftop entrance, they set course to Veilgarden. They picked up some Greyfields from their stash house above a bookshop. The cleric they were meeting there would appreciate it.

After the meeting μαρσ had some time to their self and started thinking. His bottle of wine still were stored in the very back of his cluttered room full of curios, but they had picked one up in seconds. They had walked the same ropes in the Flit, yet their travels lead them through a different path. The Airs of London smelled still smelled 'shroomy', though there was something fresh to it, as if the wind had blown.
Wind? Here? They thought, There was not a breeze. Everything was the same, the people and their interactions, London and all its mysteries. But in his mind everything seemed a little different. Brighter. Hm, progress without change. They murmer to their self. A faint smile appears on their face as two words start echoing through their head...

I don't see what "being responsive" has to do with what I said. While I have no doubt that bugs will be fixed, that too isn't what my problem with the website is (which is the core design decision of making things "less crowded" - some people have also mentioned extra clicks for some aspects, which if true is equally poor, but I haven't used the beta design nearly long enough to stumble on anything like that).
I certainly agree that people will adapt to change, and I'm not considering quitting the game over this or anything. However, I would question the entire mindset that seems to be going on here of "newer is better". Some improvements are absolutely objective (https, mobile responsiveness) and I'm very happy to see them, some have little argument behind them besides "it's old" - the prime example being FB stating several times that they wanted a redesign "because the current look is 8 years old". I didn't, and still don't, get the reasoning behind that - it's not like it was designed with a Windows 95 UI style and desperately needed a visual refresher; it had its own look and style, which had aged very well inhavedeed in my opinion, and visually didn't look in any way outdated to me at least. So going back to the initial sentence, people can certainly adapt to change, but why should they have to? Don't fix what ain't broke, principle of least surprise (in a way), and all that.
Not that I'm expecting this paragraph to change any minds or anything, I'm just laying out my reasoning.

You’re comparing function vs. design, right? Perhaps I could have used another word besides responsiveness…or added the words function and efficacy. But the overall gist is that the new site is organized better and functions just as fast (if not faster than the old). I’m basing this not as of the site this morning, but as of the beta site prior to today’s launch. It will improve over the coming weeks.

I’m repeatedly seeing FB relay that the redesign was necessary in both form and function; meaning both foundational code and gift wrapping. Unless the majority of members here were involved in the various closed betas, I feel like I’m seeing a lot of clamoring without much time spent in the new site. Again, change takes time, and I’ll bet that the more that members play around in the new site, the better they’ll adapt to the redesign. To be fair, some players have been playing in the legacy site over many years.

I will say that FB is great about listening to and acknowledging feedback. Those who had participated in the closed betas have seen that in spades. Some changes will make more sense than others, some will be better embraced than others, but we have to remember that this is a very small team churning out a lot of great content. The new site is far better than the legacy site in terms of how and where a player can find the info. he/she needs to navigate the world in the most efficient manner. Some changes may be directly related to the current code and/or future planned changes. We’ll not be privy to everything.

Of course, these are all opinions, but I really think that all of us need to spend some legitimate time in the new site before we start marching the castle in favor of no changes, a legacy portal, etc. There’s just no way that the FL site can survive without evolving in some ways.

Overhauling and redesigning a site like Fallen London while it's in use is a daunting task. I salute the FBG developers for doing as well as they have been doing, and being courteous and respectful of the users meanwhile. I also appreciate Lesleyanne's description of how and why the major reversions to certain features closer to the current version of FL were adopted.

Except this one. Why ever not? From a purely visual/design standpoint of course - I'm sure everyone can agree adding some mobile-friendly layout responsiveness and https was a good thing.

Any chance of bringing "Who else is here?" back at some point? One of my favourite things is checking up on what random people are up to. Such a pity to lose that.

And a connected thing: The profile page. I love perusing other people's pages (usually people I just spotted in "Who else is here?"). Sorry to be a Negative Nancy again, but the new one is a shadow of its former self. Frankly, it is horrible. There's just no comparison with the old one. Another look at that some point down the line would be appreciated, as I can't see myself making much use of it in its current form.

So, my question is how long the old (storynexus) interface will be kept in working order.

See, I have an old OS (iOS 6.something) on my mobile platform and the new website doesn't seem to work in my browser, at all. I can't get a different browser since they all require newer generations of OS, which I'm not updating on my oldish tablet for a number of reasons.

The redesign has gone live on fallenlondon.com today. Tomorrow fallenlondon.storynexus.com will also redirect to the redesign. Since iOS 6 support ended in 2016 it's hard for us to develop for it so we're not actively supporting it. We are making some tweaks in the future so the functionality is beta in iOS 9 and this may have a knock-on effect, but we can't guarantee it.

Tomorrow...

I admit I've hoped for a longer transition period to be able to say goodbye to my single most favorite game.

It is somewhat heartbreaking every time when something that works fine for owners of old devices gets modernized so that you either need to buy a new appliance or are left along the sidelines. I was hoping this could be compatible with more than just the most up-to-date browsers, especially in a game that is arguably most attractive for lovers of all things old, but I guess there's no stopping progress.

Pardon my salt. I am simply and genuinely sad something I loved had gone away and been replaced with a thing some people can't participate in...

It is extremely likely that it will work fine in iOS 6. They aren’t adding anything that will definitely break it, they just aren’t taking care to make sure it won’t.

That being said, I would highly recommend getting a newer device for security reasons alone. Using outdated software makes you extremely easy to hack, as fixed vulnerabilities that you remain susceptible to become public knowledge. Besides, it is not that expensive to get a newer iPhone second or third hand.

Adding my voice to this. While I LOVE the look of the new site in general, the profile pages are the exception here. The old ones were pretty, the new ones aren't. Not at all. They used to look like actual pages out of someone's journal, which was nice.

And yes, I look at Profiles a lot, mostly while reading up on paths I didn't take in Exceptional Stories.

And I liked "Who else is here?", too. The funny things people echo sometimes, and their often incredibly imaginative character names, often made me laugh out loud.

I'd like to say that I also miss the "Who Else is Here" section - I met a lot of other players by seeing them there, and it makes the world feel a lot more populated.

So I have a question for the FB Team...

I don’t see the reordering of inventory items on the planned/upcoming changes list. There has been the ask by many to see if we could eventually get inventory items back to an order of upgradability and rarity.

Is this something that can be considered?

Also, is there a way to add an item/quality to my scrapbook and mantle? I’m not currently seeing how to do that.

And finally for the evening, I think that FB needs to review all inventory items to ensure that the stat and quality bonuses are being applied correctly. I’ve seen many flags raised about various items and I just noticed that my BDR quality is nearly half of what it should be. So there are many different items being impacted.

Just an update. We are aware of the issue with the stat/quality bonuses. This is not an issue with the redesign but with Fallen London/StoryNexus on the whole (and is related to a few issues we've seen recently with branches behaving strangely in recent weeks - some of you will have experienced this recently). We're working to resolve this right now.

UPDATE 6TH JUNE 2018

We're going to delay updating the fallenlondon.storynexus.com URL to the new site for the time being while we squash some extra high-priority bugs. Once we're confident that's sorted, we'll update that URL to the new site as well. Thank you kindly for your patience in advance, delicious friends

Is anyone having issues with the new site? I have been having a lot of issues where clicking an action will halfway navigate me (story frame goes black, with the spinning hat) but I never get there. I'm having issues with both Win10/Chrome and my iPad Air (v11.3.1/Safari). I don't think it is a data problem on my side (I live in Massachusetts, US and I'm on a very reliable fiber connection at home)

I have the same issue occasionally. I haven’t had the chance to look at the console yet, but I suspect there is some sort of JavaScript or CSS error.

My character just completely lost all of her qualities. Ticket sent.

UPDATE: Apparently her data got corrupted. It's a good thing Failbetter kept backups. There are still some issues (sent another ticket), but at least I can play again. Thank you!

Huh. I just chose the Counting the Days option on the Constables card, for the results screen, then got dumped backed to the card. Clicking it again causes the same thing, as if the first time didn’t happen. In other words, I’m getting the results despite not actually doing the storylet.

Maybe we should treat the new site like an open beta for now. That’s a fairly serious issue, after all.

I’d send a more detailed report to the email hotline, but I am not in a position to review the error logs and such right now.

Me too! Whenever I see a cleverly titled journal entry, I like to send a Calling Card; likewise, I've been approached by people who liked my journal entry titles.
