Silk Scraps and getting some

I'm attempting to complete the Making Your Name storyline to get to the Shuttered Palace without paying all that wine, and grind for Silk Scraps. So far the best method of getting them I've found is through pick-pocketing and converting my winnings to silk, though it's very action-heavy. Is there a better way to proceed?

If memory serves there should be storylets in Veilgarden itself that get you all the things you need to get to the ball. They vanish once you have got to the ball. It should all be there on that page. Something about a Seamstress, maybe? I think that's the one that gets scraps.
I hope I'm remembering correctly, but I'm sure that's how it was when I did it.
