The Chapel of Light is bugged. Going there and returning causes the opportunity card stack to suffer the infamous overflow glitch that turns the number of cards into the negative millions.

I have sent emails to Failbetter support about this.

Yep, that's how the bug happens. I almost hope they never fix it because it's such a SMEN Aesthetic (TM).

I think there was a gentleman's agreement that Failbetter would not mess around with Seeking, once Alexis left.

Which is good, since it means things like that can stay.

An update:

Going to the Unterzee and coming back appears to work around the problem.

By the way, it would appear that the case of the bug is getting St. Forthigan's Candle.

Yes, going to any place with an infinite deck works. Pickpockets' Promenade is even faster.

Want a sip of Hesperidean Cider? Send me a request in-game. Here's an_ocelot's guide how.
(Most social actions are welcome. Please no requests to Loiter Suspiciously and no investigations of the Affluent Photographer)

Not just any. I tried the Flash Lay; it didn't work.
P.S. I knew that the work-around has to be something that jiggers the opportunity card stack. I tried Polite Invitations too, but it did not work.

More specifically, the bug is caused by returning home directly from the Chapel of Lights. There's a couple options that do so.

I thought so too, but some of my characters went to the Chapel twice (everyone has to, once for the "F" candle and one more for the "G" candle). The "G" candle did not result in the bug.

Huh. The bug was reported a lot after people sacrificing themselves for Gawain; did you choose a different option?

Nope. I chose the dreamy beheading/resurrection-with-wax option.
Really, it's the "F" candle, not the "G" candle.

They both mess with things to some degree or other. Getting Gawain does it too, or at the very least used to.

As far as bugs go, I'm quite fond of it.

The Scorched Sailor, up for most social actions and RP. Not as scary as he looks.
