Is there a good way to grind Certifiable Scraps?

A card with "unusual frequency" (1/5 as common as standard) has cropped up in my deck three times in the past two days. It's called "City Vices: What profit?" and is essentially a sleazy approach from a devil trying to wangle my soul off me.
I've searched for it both by City Vices, by "cards with unusual frequency" and by name of one of the options and can't find it on the Wiki.
I assume others have come across it -- ? Requires Hell renown 5, which I have solely because of my choice of profession.

Is there a good way to grind Certifiable Scraps? One mainly gets them from the lodgings cards. You can also turn in Urchins favors in the Flit (it's a card drawn there, unlike the other Call in Favours ones).
City Vices: What Profit? It's fate locked (requiring one to go through the Soul Trade) so that's why it's not on the wiki. You can avoid it by getting a remote lodgings, available at Christmas (which unfortunately is quite a ways off).

Kaijyu:
I have a remote lodging, thank you. I am also aware of the Fate restrictions on the wiki. But many items and cards still appear, albeit with the note that they are fate locked.

The only fate-locked things that appear on wiki are items/qualities that you can see on people's mantleplaces (because anyone can see them), branches that initiate the fate purchase (because anyone can see them) and branches that require fate-locked items *provided* they have been intentionally left visible by Failbetter (many such branches are actually invisible if you don't have the required items/qualities). In particular, opportunity cards that are unlocked by fate-locked items/qualities are not on the wiki.

Is Tending the needs of a singular plant worth it?

Depends on what you mean by worth it.
Will you turn a profit? Definitely not.
Can you get any amazing rewards? You can get Counterfeit Heads of John the Baptist, which can be nice if you want a quick route to exile in the Tomb-Colonies or exotic meals. You get a unique but not useful reward for winning the tournament. Otherwise, no, nothing in particular.
If you raise your plant all the way you stop drawing plant cards, which is nice. But that's a lot of actions, cards, and resources sunk into growing the thing.

In that case... I think I'll just raise it until I can get rid of it. Profit.

Those sprouting heads of John the Baptist are useful things to have if you want to raise your Hedonist quirk to its highest levels.

If you are planning on a long stay in the Neath and are able to drew a decent number of cards per day, it is best to raise it to 19 so cards will stop appearing. Even more, try to win a tournament and not claim your reward to disable other players of inviting you to the plant battles.

Please note that after a while it needs to eat weasels and vicars. If you are opposed to feeding a plant with cute animals and/or people, keep it mind!

As for scraps, to "farm" more make sure you have the Bethlehem suit (3 scraps per card) and the Bazaar premises (4 scraps). The Decommisioned Steamer gives scraps. Still, hanging out at the Flit and exchanging 3 urchin favors for 25 scraps kind of beats other options.

Does that not screw over their opponent as well? My account has an ongoing month-long duel because the other person stopped playing just as the duel was over, but before ending it. Because of 'Sparring: The Current Bout 2', I can neither engage in another duel, nor call of my current one.

For the plants, each challenge is a single action, so no one can be stuck waiting on anyone else.
In your case, I'd suggest sending a request to FBG support so they can reset your sparring bout if the other player has indeed stopped playing. It's a problem with their current design of multi-step social actions.

I did not know that about the plant wars. Interesting.
Now I have a question. What are some reliable, non-card storylets I can use to finish the 'Counting The Days' carousel?

If you have the right "Closest to..." connections you can do the whole thing without using cards at all. Rather than type a load of stuff here, it's probably simpler if I direct you to the Wiki guide for Counting the Days:

Having a bat also helps with scraps, you can get 3 if lucky. That, premises at the bazaar (4!) the royal beth, and spending Urchin favors on the flit card is your best bet.
