So my first alt was Seeking for a while, but then I grew too attached to his character and wanted to stop. I think it was an option on an opportunity card to do something like set a table and do something....I don't exactly remember. But I've Googled and scoured the forums and I can't find it anywhere. I'm kicking myself for not Echoing it. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or is this some weird Irrigo-induced memory and I actually just used A Bad End?

Main, Phiri Ulfur, the Cunning Shadow. Their heart belongs to a Pirate-Poet across the Zee.
Alt Vermillion Liminate, the Tragic Scholar.
Alt #2,Lady Jacqueline Blackwood, the Savage Beauty.
Alt #3, Veracity Taylor, the Dame of the Docks.
The Dogged Seeker, self explanatory.

I will accept any social actions on Fallen London(unless its a box of live rats. I already got rid of the d---ned things once and am not eager to repeat the endeavor).

If the "Seeking Road" storylet isn't pinned on your Lodgings, then you probably used A Bad End already. Out of curiosity, is that item still available for you?

Two Unaccountably Peckish cards have options that redirect to A Bad End, Knight of Feasts (the one you probably used) and Knave of Regrets.

EDIT: To note, every single way to exit SMEN inevitably is a redirect to A Bad End. No matter how you left you used a bad end in some way. Also: http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/A_way_out

YES that's it I'm not crazy! (well, at least, no crazier than anyone else Seeking) I must have missed the Knight of Feasts in my search. I probably used that and then went to A Bad End. I no longer have A Bad End, but still have all my Scars, Stains, Chains, etc. as well as Freed from the Name.

Not to get into spoilers, but Flint can remove the Stains, Flute Street has an option to get rid of the Scars, but you can't get rid of Chains (yet). Freed from the Name is related to quitting SMEN and there's nothing bad with it, but you can get rid of that during the Feast via the rare success of A Mysterious Envelope.

(you could've gotten the Knock)

Stains are a significant buff. Don't remove them unless absolutely sure. My alt is not yet three weeks old and I'm already sick of the devils (and they aren't City Vices so a Mansion won't help).

I don't have the Fate to do so anyways and I don't think I'm far enough along to find Flute Street even with my main. (d--- I forgot about the Knock)

At first, I thought that some of the Seeking qualities would screw a character over in terms of gameplay, namely cards that gunk up the deck.

Now that I know that the cards only get drawn when certain storylet options are used, I realize that I should have gotten into Seeking earlier.

The consequences are actually quite manageable gameplay-wise, and even some of the nasty things that Seekers can get (like the recent "Your Internal Organs") can be useful.

Why would you stop?

Besides, if you would put aside your fear of spoilers, you would know that there is something valuable to be gained at the end.

While I agree that seeking is not terribly painful if approached with patience and planning, it nonetheless is an expensive endeavour to do, and one of the few instances of the game where one can truly lose significant amounts of money/resources. There is not really anything to lose, mechanically, if one simply stops putting effort into furthering the story, but I can understand why someone would want to give it up for RP/Story reasons. Moreover, I applaud those who avoid spoilers and let things develop without knowing what's at the end.
