I've been wondering about the impossibly large amount of souls that are being sold and bought all over the place. Do you think it's possible that a large chunk of those might be animal souls?
What makes me suspect that might be the case is the monkey in Heart's Desire; he's a player in the Marvellous, so he must have staked his soul like everybody else.
Other animals might qualify - I think the cats and LBs, at least...

It's not my Ambition, but I'm pretty sure you can stake something other than your soul.

I doubt it. At least, not souls that devils would want, or be salable.
I do know, however, that lower primates have souls. A devil (from Sunless Seas) once referred to them as "unripe", though.
So there is a possibility that it could extend to other animals, but we just don't know; They would also definitely be undesirable to devils as well, and thus unlikely to be bottled in the first place.
Until lore is established that lays down the law on the topic of animals and the status of their souls (or lack thereof), I'd say it's really up to you what's what. It's a canonical grey area.

... I... apparently once commissioned a vault to hold souls... for some reason. Now it just holds all my Dubious Testimonies. Maybe I left it in there.
