Ah, the dastardly climb to even one single Blackmail Material in very early game. My 3rd alt decided to betray Lilac to Clathermont and now I have sold almost everything she owns to get Proscribed Material so I can convert up to BM. It's honestly the worst choice I've made on FL. If anyone has any ideas on how to get literally any Rumour items fast, I would be most grateful. (Why couldn't I just believe her when she said she wouldn't be there if I told anyone? Blasted spirit of inquiry!)

If you have 25 Incendiary Gossip you can wait to draw the fairly common "Wanted: Reminders of Brighter Days" card. Succeed or fail, you'll get Blackmail Material, which can skip a step for you. But there aren't any fantastic options, especially for a newish character.

you can get Blackmail Material from the Curt Relicker for 120 Certifiable Scraps. Or you can side-convert to Incendiary Gossip and then up-convert from there, but if my math is right that'll cost you 150 tier-three items and four Society favors. You can also combine these two methods by trading a smaller number of scraps to the Curt Relicker. Or you can get Blackmail material by finishing the Velocipede Squad carousel and attending a funeral. But these might all be difficult for a low-level character.
Several Professions get paid in Blackmail material: I think it's Journalist, Author, Watcher, Conjurer, and Crooked-Cross.But that probably won't help if you're in a hurry.

How are you set for Favours: Revolutionaries? There's a Standard Frequency card that you can draw only when you're in the Flit that lets you trade 3 Revolutionaries Favours to get 720 Proscribed Materials, which you can upconvert to other Revolutionary items. If your alt has access to the Foreign Office, there's a method that you can grind directly, but if she's a newish character she probably doesn't.

You can also acquire Blackmail Material in Flash Lays. Go and harass an Auditor.
