So, the Pirate-Poet... A lot of us are big fans, as I've heard in the past. But what do you suppose the story is behind her from a lore perspective? Knowing what we do about how Clay Men and Unfinished Men are formed, is there anything specifically unique about how she was formed? If not, then what happened to differentiate her from other Clay Men? Did she wind up with a soul other than her original? Perhaps she was borne from a rather unusual nightmare?
I won't pretend to have any coherent idea whether this is a question worth asking -- for all I know questioning it too hard might cause her to vanish -- , but what's the worst that could happen? ...Well, apart from what I just said...

I haven't played Sunless Seas yet either, but I hear
there are references to her being willingly resculpted by the Merciless Modist. I always assumed she's trans, and that tidbit reinforces the theory.
Oh HELL yeah, my girl! The Pirate Poet is my idol. Pirate Poet for mayor!
...all that said, I don't have much to contribute, aside from agreeing with all of the above. I don't know what makes her different from her fellow Clayfolk - maybe there are other rebels, and she's simply the only one bold enough to do so publicly. But I can't not love her ideals - art as the means of revolution, freeing all the people of the Neath from tyrants!

I haven't played the story, but in SSeas
the Merciless Modiste says she isn't an Unfinished Man.
-- Main, Phiri Ulfur, the Cunning Shadow. Their heart belongs to a Pirate-Poet across the Zee. Alt Vermillion Liminate, the Tragic Scholar. Alt #2,Lady Jacqueline Blackwood, the Savage Beauty. Alt #3, Veracity Taylor, the Dame of the Docks. The Dogged Seeker, self explanatory.
I will accept any social actions on Fallen London(unless its a box of live rats. I already got rid of the d---ned things once and am not eager to repeat the endeavor).
