Divorce should always be available year-round. Also I don't think the NPC spouses let you get notability, just the player marriages.

It's the opposite, actually. Being married to another player gives you no BDR whatsoever, it instead boosts all your main stats by one point. Three of the spouses do give BDR points, and thus help with Notability.

NPC marriages can boost your BDR, which is useful for grinding notability, but do not give any notability points. High level player marriages do not give BDR but do give out points of notability

Being married to some NPCs can help you grind notability, but getting married to a player can get you notability.

There are unfortunate implications to grinding weddings and divorces...

I am hitting the gardens hard as I can. I think I am two procs from 12, at which point I will burn three typewriters to get 15

Oh! You can do that too? Thanks!
And now I see that with a University Fellowship I can also raise austere. This seems way easier than any other option, provided you only need 12 for the Scarlet Saint (instead of looking to maximize both hedonist and austere). So it is a bit expensive echo-wise, but faster than Iron Republic/Feast of the Rose.

The issue is that the faction items only allow quirk polishing when already at 12+. Getting from 10 to 12 is therefore the hard part. (Also, each option lowers another quirk by the same amount. That's why high-cap options like the Austere option in the Iron Republic which don't lower another quirk are so important.)

I have a question. What are reliable methods of increasing one's Scholar of the Correspondence quality?

There's a list at http://fallenlondon.wikia.com/wiki/Category:A_Scholar_of_the_Correspondence .

I'm assuming you already have at least one point of it.
To get past levels 1-2 to get SoTC 3, apparently there's an easy option in Mrs. Plenty's Carnival - Beneath the Neath.
To get up to level 7, the easiest option is probably to seek curious and secrets in the forgotten quarter - there's one option there that increases SoTC, and overall it's profitable (though you do have to take time to decrease nightmares).
To get up to level 10, there's a correspondence opera you can write in the Empress' court, 1 CP at a time. It's pretty slow but at least you're still gaining money while you do it instead of spending it, and you make progress toward poet laureate while you do it.
Also, if you have a Corresponding Ocelot or Bifurcated Owl, their cards have SoTC-increasing options.
To get from levels 11 to 21, the only option is to spend lots of correspondence plaques, aeolian screams, and extraordinary implications to play the "perhaps you can remember something useful" storylet at the university. This will require progressively higher levels of watchful and more and more correspondence plaques; you need 300 watchful to get to the full SoTC 21.

Social invitations of all kinds welcome, especially games of chess and deadly sparring!

Also happy to help with nightmares, send sips of Cider, and plant battle.

Having grown frustrated from the decadence option, which made me dedicate two whole days just to get to hedonist 11 and a half, I remembered that quirks get increased by spending favors too. Expensive, but a lot more certain. The wiki does not contradict me - does anyone else have a different experience?

Did you happen to record the number of AP spent and success rate?
I'm at 195 AP spent from which 131 were successes, but no sign of a rare success.

It's often said that the only way to increase SotC past 10 is at the University, but that's not 100% true. You can actually get up to Scholar 15 by examining Pails of Snow. But, y'know... not for another ten months. So it's like 98% true.

I had about 4 rare successes at more than a hundred tries - not exact numbers though!

I don't have an exact number either, but I used nearly every single action on "Enjoy the decadence" Monday through Thursday. The only actions I didn't use were those to reduce scandal pretty much. Maybe played a handful of cards. Figuring ~120 actions per day played on that one storylet for four days is 480 actions, of which I got 5 rare successes.

I know it's only my one example, but that's pretty close to 1% rare success rate.

Hello - I am busy trying to make waves to increase my Notability

Got it up to 16 yesterday and am wanting to get up to 20 before tackling mr slowcakes friend

Time, the Healer visited me last night, and of all the lovely little adjustments he made.....HE BROUGHT MY MAKING WAVES DOWN TO 10! Arrrrgghh

Is this a regular thing?
Can I opt out of his visits?

....so many Valentines sent... :/

Time, the Healer visits weekly at almost exactly the same day and time (per account). It will halve your Making Waves. You can't opt out, and it's the major limit on just slowly picking up MW as you do other things. You're always on a timer.

You'll also lose Notability instead if TtH arrives and your Notability is higher than your MW, but that's usually a problem when you've got pretty high Notability.

Yep. London forgets you easily. If you want a reputation, you have to make an impression while you still have their attention, and then keep making enough noise that you aren't going to lose it. Otherwise, everyone just starts following the honey-poet with the weasel.

Where could i purchase a "Iron Republic Safe-Conduct" these days? I could have sworn it was an option on the "Devils" opportunty card.
But i guess Renown: Hell 6 would not be enough for this endeavor anyway? I miss having Connected 50...

It comes from the Counting the Days cycle, and requires 10 Hell renown.

It's on the Secrets and Spending card, which you only get when your Counting the Days is high enough. You need 10 Renown Hell, 3 Mark of Credit Pages, a Brass Ring, and you also have to be a POSI.

Edit: Grrr, too slow! smile
