The game seems very generous in handing out Criminal favours to me these days, I seem to have more than I know what to do with most of the time. I tend to go expeditions to the Forgotten Quarter just to spend them because the game wants to give me more and I already have seven. I don't play scientifically, though. I just do what I feel, rather than worrying about efficiency.
But that said, expeditions have been so fruitful on that score lately that I haven't bothered with any other methods of soul-collecting, and I'm still swimming in the things.
Here's an idea. The "Implausible Penance" Opportunity card contains a bunch of storylets, all of which require various amounts of Criminal Favours for various rewards. The pair of storylets under "Pugilism and Politics" require 7 Favours apiece. The one where you beat up the Minister gives you 3 Ostentatious Diamonds and 1 or 2 Magnificent Diamonds; the one where you beat up the Kingpin gives you 700 Rostygold and a Favour in High Places. Now, the Minister one gives you some Suspicion (not a great amount) and the Kingpin one increases your Turncoat quality if you have it.
However, Magnificent Diamonds are hard to get (most of the other ways to get them require rare successes or other luck-dependent measures). They are worth 12.50 apiece, and absolutely necessary to make some items (e.g., Bejeweled Lens). So if you are rolling in Criminal Favours, it's worth keeping an eye out for the card. It comes with Standard Frequency.

You may wish to investigate the path to gaining certain Destinies for an answer. Or wait for fifteen years, I suppose.

Question: What's the best way to grind Souls without Renown: Hell? My character Aquila is a Soul-Shepherd & thus needs to gather a lot of souls, but doesn't associate with devils, so it wouldn't make sense for them to gain Renown to unlock the Unfinished Business option. I've been robbing the Brass Embassy to get those souls and infernal contracts, but is there a more efficient option? Depends on how you define efficient. Thieves' Cache expeditions in the Forgotten Quarter have a 50% chance, give or take, or uncovering a cache of 500 souls, in addition to the other rewards. If you're capable of reliably using the boldest option, the expedition requires six actions (one to start, three to make progress, and two to deal with the results). If you count in the actions needed to gain the requisite Criminals favour and supplies (assuming you're using Docks favours for them), then it takes 14 actions and a small amount of Rostygold. Since favours aren't really grindable, per se, you may not want to use this as your sole option for souls (pun not intended, I really promise), but even as a side gig it's an avenue that an active Soul Shepherd probably doesn't want to neglect. If you need souls only for the shepherd card, Thieves cache expeditions (40% chance, not 50%) will offer more than needed. I do have extra cards that offer me Dock favours, but I don't use the most expensive option from the Shepherd all the time. With this said, I'm at 64k extra Souls.

Still, it hurts to choose just one when I personally like all three. It may be a bit selfish of me to say I want to see all three 'sides' to the story. It especially doesn't help that switching sponsors in the future may involve possibly betraying them, something I am really not inclined to do to any of them. However, your answers have made me a little more at ease when it comes to choosing. In the end, we are all in this together. Now, who to choose...
Oh, great. Now who I choose may actually have a noticeable effect on the story. How can there be different sides to immortality? At this rate, I might as well postpone indefinitely until the story is further updated. However IC, delaying makes no sense and OOC, I am curious about the Court of the Wakeful Eye. This is frustrating. edited by Harry P. on 1/23/2018 Pick whoever you feel without thinking of any consequences! I picked the Detective because I was helping the Cheery man at that time. Not a big-lore-head, but most of the times I understand the meanings. Using the tears is not one of the times so could anyone please tell me
if the visions is only about the purple lady? Or are there extra meanings to it?
Cheers!

I don't think it's related to the lady in lilac at all. Its about
the bazaar
Also this confusion just helped me make a connection related to the practice of Illumination, and how the Great Game is a reflection of a greater game.

Forgive me for trying to keep at least some of the mystery intact. You will find enlightenment on the twenty-first of September, 1911, and if that isn't enough, I don't know what will be.
The wiki is a thing, incidentally.
Things start to get clear now! The lore in FL never stop to amaze me! Think I'll need an alt and start picking up every possible note to keep track of small snips of text like the Tear or Henricus' comments!

Do you lose any of the progress qualities such as Running Battle, Fascinating and so on if you die and go to the slow boat? Can't recall. Don't think you do, but just wanted to check.
Incidentally, I was just looking at the Wiki about this (and it doesn't mention any progress loss, but I thought I'd still just check with living people) and on the page for the boat trip it says: Music: The Crowds of Spite. What does this mean?

Oh, the app version has music? I didn't know that. Don't really do apps.

Re: progress loss in menace areas.
No you don't lose anything really by going to the slow boat. Just time. You'll be plopped back into your lodgings afterward, so you'll get effectively kicked out of places like the court if you die there. That's all I can think of though.

Thanks.
Another quick thing: I want to set up some alt accounts to play the other ambitions. Can you run multiple accounts from the same email address, or do I need to get myself some more email addresses?

Does raising the "Engaged in a Scheme: a Salon" quality above the 6 you need to invite people actually do anything? Do the options or rewards change the higher it goes?
