The downside to the orphan grind is that you have to leave London. As long as you're willing to leave London, your profit margin only goes up the more urchins you've turned into tribute and the more tribute you cash in.
If you haven't finished the University storyline, getting Investigation and Cryptic Clues there, then turning Investigation into more Cryptic Clues in the Flit, is also profitable. Plus Cryptic Clues can be even more profitably used to buy bags of low-quality diamonds in the Bazaar Side-streets.

One of the threads about Paramount Presence mentions Liberation of Night 50 for the Dangerous portion, but the wiki sets it at 40. Can someone who has done it confirm which it is? Thanks in advance!

For something more adventurous, I find expeditions profitable and fun provided you have enough Watchful to always go for the bucaneering approach. Heists too. I prefer them as pure grinding in Affair of the Box would get too repetitive.
