Snow has begun to fall all across London! Urchins are throwing snowballs in the streets!

Starting at noon GMT today, Time, the Healer will bring ‘snow’ to doorsteps across London. You’ll need to dig your door out, or find someone to lend a hand or tentacle to the task.

Fate can also be used to employ a certain cowled assistant – and earn unique seasonal Home Comfort items!

Acquiring pails of this 'snow' and learning what you can about it will unlock a selection of seasonal benefits at the end of the season, when Penstock’s Wicket opens on the 5th of January.

Note: The Snowbound effect will remain constant this year until sometime shortly after 8th January 2018.

A ‘GIFT’ FROM MR SACKS
The urchins have purloined the terrible sack of Mr Sacks once again! You may draw a gift from it (or send one to a friend) – for a price, of course.

Buy a lucky dip in Mr Sacks’ sack for yourself, or send a lucky dip draw to another player! Begin with Explore the Festive Season, available throughout London.

Enjoy this early chance at a gift ahead of Sacksmas, which will begin Christmas day.

SEASONAL STORIES
On the 18th of December, a new festive premium story will be available for purchase featuring our very own dastardly Mayor! It seems that love is in the air this Christmas season.

Our previous festive tales, The Gift by Chris Gardiner and The Empress’ Shadow by Emily Short, will become available for purchase today, 11th December, via the Explore the Festive Season branch!

OTHER FESTIVITIES
There are still more goodies to be found in the Fallen London Advent Calendar, too! Each window is around for just a few days, so be certain to check back regularly to receive all of the various treats.

Since it tis the season, we also encourage you to reach out to new players with a lovely Christmas card and a friendly greeting. Find new friends on Twitter (using #flcards), Reddit, Facebook, Tumblr or here on the forums!

Look for Explore the Festive Season throughout London to take part in the seasonal fun!

Upon getting it, it takes 7 levels of each stat (actual loss, rather than the item's effects), sends you mad, dead and to prison and sets UP to 10, BUT it can be unequipped like a normal Home Comfort.

I don't think the UP sticks (equipping and unequipping it didn't leave me with UP 11, at any rate), but it's worth noting that this can bump it to 11 while equipped, if that's a thing that you want to do!

I have the Sacks and Eaten items on display. They're cool.

UPDATE: Courier has the Chimes item equipped too. (Before you ask: yes, I had Robes saved over from last year!)

For those who have bought with Fate an Incarnadine Fur Robe, there are new possible gifts this year from :
  • Mr Chimes
  • Mr Sacks
  • Mr Eaten!!! ("This option will disturb, distress and punish. It will give you a Home Comfort which will harm you immensely.")

You know I had to try.

Incidentally I think most of the Home Comforts give +1 rather than set to 1, not just the Eaten one. I won't be doing it again, though, so feel free to try for 7 Trilby if you want the glory/admiration/pitying glances.

Edit: Once again, I was only able to do this after 1 Snowbound because I've held onto 2 Incarnadine Robes for a whole year, just in case anyone was wondering.

Aye, my bad - you are of course right. I embraced my be-menaced state in the spirit of Eaten, and so am having a right merry tour of our least salubrious locales, but it's very possible to dodge it all.

To head off even more PM requests, here's the three new ones:
• Mr Chimes - A Replica of the House of Chimes, Awash with Snow; Persuasive +3, Respectable +1
  • Mr Sacks - You're Not Quite Sure What; Watchful +3, Bizarre +1
  • Mr Eaten - A Complete Set of Preserved Internal Organs; Unaccountably Peckish +1, -15 to all stats
Getting the Complete Set lowers all four stats by 7 levels, sets Unaccountably Peckish to 10, and sets Wounds, Nightmares, and Suspicion to 8. It doesn't send you directly to any menace areas so you can avoid that with equipment, certain items and storylets, social actions, Christmas cards, etc.
I went to the Mirror-Marches and the slow boat in that order, but the Royal Beth could be after death in the priority list. (I didn't go to jail at all thanks to Christmas Cards. Gotta avoid that Criminal Record gain.

Is it just me, or is the selection for Eaten actually REALLY useful for Seeking? That +1 UP seems like it would be delicious when trying to manipulate the UP cards in your hand. (Assuming that's how you're getting SMEN, that is.)

Just to be clear, Veils' gift is not the best in slot Home Comfort for Shadowy (navchaa asked specifically about Home Comforts). Veils' gift is the Best in Slot Shadowy transport.

The BIS Home Comfort for Shadowy remains the Midnighter Profession item.

What I want to know is what happened to me, given I already had my organs removed and replaced with wax. Did Mr Eaten just go steal the organ-golem from the Chapel?

Wow, don't be like me and stupidly think paying 12 fate to get a gift might be a fun thing to try. I got a single journal of infamy and a random no-use item worth 50 cents. What an absolute insult that that's on the table of possibilities for 12 fate. Getting 1e of value with nothing else to show for it is a pathetic reward for a real money transaction. I know this game is all about RNG but at least have the decency to give a minimum value when people spend their hard-earned money with you. Leaves an extremely bad impression and feels like there's no respect for the customer when things like this occur.

All results from the sack contain at least one item which cannot be obtained in regular gameplay, most of which are Sunless Sea crossovers. Some results are worth more than others, but they are all special.

Candide Camera wrote:
I'm curious: for those who got Mr Eaten's gift, what happens if you equip it while already at Unaccountably Peckish 10? An 11th level? New depths of hunger to be plumbed, perhaps?

You go to Unaccountably Peckish 11, then unequipping it puts you back at 10. It's just like using other equipment while at the stat limit of 200.

The phrasing is pretty much the same as it had been in past years, so no reason to think that the mechanics have changed.

"The Snowbound Effect" refers to the fact that without "A Clear Path" you're blocked from your Lodgings and the "SNOWBOUND!" storylet is playable.

So stating that "the Snowbound Effect" will remain until January 8th means that the above conditions will be in play until that time.

In short: until The stated date, each "Time, the Healer" will remove your "A Clear Path", thus triggering the above implications.

The home comfort doesn't give notability loss. Just seven levels of each stat and 10 points of UP. If you don't want to seek the name, mosey over to the labyrinth and gobble Rubbery lumps. Then you just have the stat loss to deal with.

Each point of unaccountably peckish adds a new card to your deck. If you want to start smen and not horribly punish your character right off the bat, get one point of Unacountably peckish and wait for ACE OF HUNGERS. Some of the options lock with &quotmarsh mired&quot. These options will give you a point of SMEN without notability loss. I have not gotten the home comfort and can't say if it affects notability or not.

$100 is 560 Fate, and each robe is 30 Fate, so that's 18 robes rounding down. Of course, this would take three to four years to pull off, unless you have access to the much less efficient Nadir entrance option.

How long would it take a fresh account to reach the nadir quest?

Also, how less efficient are we talking? Because I may have used that option 11 times when I first found it.

50 Fate for the Nadir option vs. 30 for the Sacksmas option. (Of course, the Nadir option also gives you a Ray-Drenched Cinder.)

My new alt just reached the Nadir, and I started her for Hallowmas, so that was about six weeks. But I expect that you could beat that time if you were really focused.

So, do you think it would work to start Seeking, get the home comfort from Mr. Eaten, and then quit? Or do you have to be at a certain level of Seeking?

I'm also wondering if you lose any stat levels you gained from cashing in Notability, if you can eventually replenish those. I can't remember if cashing in Notability is a one time thing or not.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to be a completionist or give this one a pass

Pretty sure you just need SMEN 1 to get it. And yes, you can always spend Notability again to overcap once more. (Unless you're a Paramount Presence as that's still not implemented.)

Note: the game instructions on the SNOWBOUND! storylet still say: "It will snow once a week until late December."

And another mistake in this very sentence: I assume that was supposed to be January 2018.

It costs 7 levels of each stat (actual loss, rather than the item's effects), sends you mad, dead and to prison and sets UP to 10, BUT it can be unequipped like a normal Home Comfort.

Do I understand clearly, or do you mean to tell us that, when equipping that jar, you lose 7 levels of each stat and have nightmares, wounds and suspicion up to 8 and/or sends you to that menace area instantly?

To clarify, it just sets each stat to 8, it doesn't transport you to any menace areas. I was able to avoid those wasted actions entirely by using gear and social actions to lower my menaces below 8.

The latest news link is broken; looks like a quoting problem; it links to <”http://community.failbettergames.com/topic25440-its-snowing-in-fallen-london.aspx”>, including those extraneous quotes.
