How does one progress in the University?

So I've been merrily galivanting with the provost after feasts and naming murderers and what you, and I am wondering if to progress in 'featuring in the tales of the university' I need to take the option to become 'A most notable academic' which I fear will mean I lose all current options to seduce the provost or lie in bed reading books? I think I have a tales quality of 5 or something currently but nothing I do seems to raise it at the moment.
Any advice fellows?

You do need to become a Most Notable Academic to progress, which does mean losing those options. Be sure you're ready to move on before doing so, as there's no turning back.
