Does a Fine Piece reset when you Put to Zee? I seem to recall that Inspired does. Thanks!

I think the answer to this one is yes.

"Inspired" is reset when setting out to Zea.
"A Fine Piece" remains intact.

My alts are married, and I want to send one of them on the seeking road. Will their marriage be annulled through the mechanisms of seeking, or should I prepare a divorce so that my other character doesn't have to remain a grieving widower for the rest of his life?

Seeking does not destroy (player) marriages. You can undergo a mutual divorce now if you wish, but if you want them to remain married for now, you can let your alt go North and have a unilateral divorce afterwards.

A question regarding the Christmas event. If I'm not interested in a Noman, and have all of the Lodgings from Penstock's Wicket, is there anything I should be preparing ahead of the events?

You might want to get a Long-Box if you don't have one, but they have very little use. Aside from that just make sure you have everything to optimize the Twelve Days cards, I guess.

Though it's worth noting that buying a Noman on the first day costs only 3 ToL, and playing through its story gives an Elemental Secret.

The two halves of this sentence seem to be in disagreement - is a Long-Box good to have for Sacksmas? What might someone be able to use it for?

Sorry, I phrased things a little badly. You might want to get a Long-Box during Sacksmas (for 5 ToL), but its only use outside completionism is unlocking something in Sunless Sea.

I'm interested in making these preparations while avoiding learning the 12 days' story content ahead of time. Is there someplace where I could see all of the mechanical options (e.g. costs and rewards of each day's options) other than the wikia?

There's a guide somewhere on the forum, but I'm not sure whether it has spoilers, so I'll just list the mechanically best options here. Do you know how to optimize ToL gain?
• Day 1: One Greyfields 1868 First Sporing or 100 Honey for 1 CP C: Masters
 • Day 2: Have a Consonant Violin or spend one Greyfields 1868 First Sporing for 1 CP C: Masters and 1 ToL
 • Day 3: One Magnificent Diamond for 1 CP C: Masters
 • Day 4: No rewards, but you can choose to spend Fate to investigate with a faction, adding extra options on either two days, or one day and in Penstock's Wicket. (I won't include those here.) Each ends with a 62.5 or 312.5 echo item. Notably, helping the Duchess gives Cantigaster Venom.
 • Day 5: Spend 10 CP of Is Someone There? for 1 CP C: Masters. (You need at least level 5.) Alternatively, be identified with the Celestials for 1 ToL.
 • Day 6: A Copy of your Patriotic Adventure or 10 Touching Love Stories for 1 CP C: Masters.
 • Day 7: Say it is peaceful for 1 CP C: Masters, or be identified with the Bazaarines for 1-2 CP C: Masters and other rewards. Various of the options increase some Favours and remove others.
 • Day 8: Invite him in for 1 ToL, or if you're already acquainted, invite him in for 1 ToL plus other rewards.
 • Day 9: Accept Hearts and Lights for an Unusual Pail of So-Called Snow. Alternatively, begin Seeking or continue Seeking. Alternatively alternatively, use a Peculiar Personal Enhancement for rewards I forget (and special text).
 • Day 10: Give a Storm-Threnody for Parabola-Linen.
 • Day 11: Be a Notary or Doctor for 1 ToL and a Primeval Hint, or have a tier 1-3 profession for 1 CP C: Masters, or trade a Skyglass Knife and Mourning Candle for assorted items.
 • Day 12: Help for 3 CP C: Masters or steal for many items, a pail of snow, 1 ToL, and -1 CP C: Masters.
Are there any costs to "playing through its story" beyond the first 3 ToL? Can we just start a Noman, wait for it die, and collect an Elemental Secret?

As Kaijyuu notes, you need to raise Noman's Friend to 15 for that. You can spend quirks, or use Ambition-related options that cost more actions but give a few items.

Playing through the Noman's story gets you an Elemental Secret, so that's nice. Or you can use it in SMEN, or invest lots of resources to keep it alive until the Feast for a special quality.

Also you should probably get a Remote Address in addition to a five-card lodging.

Hieronymus Drake: Gentleman scholar, big-game hunter, scar-faced aristocrat. Remarkably sane, all things considered.
Tanith Wyrmwood: Longshanks cat-burglar; Bohemian author; now, perhaps, something more. Bubbly, expressive, and affectionate. It’s not only still waters that run deep.
Telemachia Lee: Gentle lady by birth, brawling Docker by choice. Good company in the drunk tank.

Both expeditions and beating up the minister are pretty reliable given that you have almost two months to get it. But if you want a guaranteed diamond then the Ballustraded House heist is the way to go.

So let's say I'd like to to get two of the 5-cards lodgins AND keep the noman alive until the Feast, how many Night Whispers/Threnodies I need to hoard? Is that even plausible?

It's really, really not. Preparing for the Noman tattoo on its own typically takes most of a year at least. And the cost goes up each year.

Faey wrote:
Only thing I'm missing is the magnificent diamond, which seems to have very few reliable ways of obtaining.

You can buy diamonds from Empire Adornments in the Sidestreets. There's a 5% rare success that gives a Magnificent Diamond. If you already have Cryptic Clues the whole thing's quite profitable, about 2.01 EPA expected value.

Other than the obvious RP implications, are there any game mechanical functions to Reputation: Abomination? Wiki has very little information on it.

In Old Seeking Reputation: Abomination made you vulnerable to Searing Enigma thefts by other Seekers. I don't think it has a use nowadays, however.

If you buy and complete the individual stories from a season, the season finale should become available upon completion.

Yes. Previous exceptional stories are available to purchase for Fate on the Fate page; they're sold individually, not by season though. Playing through all three stories of a season gets you the end-of-season capstone, regardless of what order or when you get the three stories.

No, no, no, no. No. The only substance to it is that the VPC has almost certainly done the whole "get an up-and-coming artist banished" thing before. The free watchful-challenge option has many times more depth and quality. Failbetter did not deserve the $2 I spent on the fate option to investigate the counselor, and they don't deserve your $2 for it either.

edit: as for whether any works become unavailable, all of the regular options are still there when you return to court. However, you will only ever be able to produce one of the several possible banishment-provoking operas; opera is an option for players restored to court, but with different and less provocative choices. If your ambition is Heart's Desire, one of the banishment options will advance your ambition, give some very good story text, and spare you considerable expense.

So in Old Downy (Heart's Desire), failing any of the stages kicks you out and forces you to pay another Rookery Password? I used a mood to try and make it through, but got unlucky immediately. Seems harsh considering you need stats over 230 to guarantee success.

I don't remember correctly but I think there are only a few checks where you get kicked out. Even if it's every check, there's only like three or four, so you can easily spam second chances provided you've got at least half a dozen stockpiled (which should be trivial). And even then I think I recall failing a check and not being kicked out (although it's been a few months, so details are hazy).

I was basically in the same situation as you, immediately failed the check to get past the packed dinner-hall, and gave up thinking it'd be a long series of very difficult checks I'd never manage to get past. After grinding a lot of Shadowy and stocking up on second chances, I came back and breezed right through, realising I didn't need nearly as much preparation.

Thanks very much! Are any of those cards particularly common? I'm having trouble navigating that list of 100-some options (especially since some appear to be non-repeatable).

Many are, though they might depend on your stats and/or other qualities to unlock

Some common ones:

If you want to not rely on cards at all, there's an inefficient alternative:

Go Area-Diving in Spite, increase the quality to 4, and then engage in A spot of blackmail.
