Rule number one: it's always the RNG. Rule number two: if it's not the RNG, see rule number one.

I don't think there's a quality to track how you ended the Comtessa's story, just whether you did so at all.

Follow up: It would seem that "Mired in Clay" ought to help me. Yet my "Mired in Clay" is 4. The two options in the story set it to 2 or 5. I guess some other business with the Clay Men has changed that. Can't think what, though. Never been to Polythreme. The Clay Man's Arm, perhaps? Oh well. The clay man-related stories on the "Mirrors and Clay" card change your "Mired in Clay" quality. It's somewhat unfortunate, as there's no way to get the 5 value back (that I'm aware of) once you lose it.

So are you considered to be on the Masters' side by default in the Affair of the Box? The very first option I clicked on in the carousel at the first time of doing it (something about helping a trade unionist) led to me gaining an immediate point of Turncoat. I have yet to click on a pro-Masters option, I haven't switched sides once.
To my knowledge I never pledged my allegiance to those bastards and I feel rather slighted that someone thinks I did. Yeah, I went to one of their parties once, but that's about it. Certainly never signed up for anything. At least I don't remember doing so. IIRC, you get a storylet asking you who's to blame for the entire Box affair, and you have two options: "It's the people's fault" (Pro-master option), or "It's the Masters' fault" (Pro-revolutionaries option). That sets you up for the rest of the carousel.

Curious, I don't recall that happening. And there's no way I would have sided with them at that point, either. How very odd.
I suppose it is possible I clicked on the wrong option by mistake or misreading, but as I said, I don't even remember that one coming up (and it was only yesterday).

...so you've somehow gotten a spouse from the Teeth and a Home Comfort from the Face? That's definitely got to be a bug. (This is on the same character, right?)
It's on the same character, but the spouse is not from the Teeth. It's a Cultured Attache, not one of the Intriguers. Sorry, I switched the faction names. The Cultured Attache is from the Face and the Tapestry from the Elder Continent is from the Teeth.
Oh, then yeah, I got both and apparently it's a weird thing. I googled some and tried to get back some memory of what that story was like, because I barely remember it. But the Attache didn't seem like an ending to story at the time, I don't think. The storylet card was there and I eventually went through it, I think. Tapestry I didn't even notice at the time because I hadn't discovered what home comforts were yet.

Do you have access to Port Carnelian? This option at the end of the Foreign Office cycle will give exactly 3.

I like the Forgotten Quarter and Seeking Curios. You just need to manage your nightmares but there are some profitable rare successes and options that raise your other stats as well.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Unless you have a Waxwail Knife, the highest you can take Dangerous without a Mood is 284 (overlapping to 215), which is enough to raise Renown from 47 to 48.
Beyond that you need a Mood.

In the third coil of the Labyrinth, I don't have this option any longer:
"The third coil The third coil is where the Labyrinth of Tigers keeps its human..."
Am I missing some requirement to see it, or did I get locked out of it?

There are two possible reasons:
1) You have at least 13 Making Progress in the Labyrinth of Tigers
2) Your "The Hunt is On!" progress quality is at 8 or higher.

Hallowmas was completely overhauled last year, so there could well be more changes made this year. But in summary: you can get the confessions of various NPCs, you get seven free confessions as the holiday progresses and can grind more, you can upgrade specific companions with specific combinations of confessions, and at the end of the holiday you can keep or betray those confessions and be featured in the Unexpurgated Gazette.
You can also get a Destiny at Hallowmas, though the process is a little more complicated than at other holidays.
