I got an Ubergoat earlier this year, and I'm having a hard time thinking of a name. I've been calling him Musky Lad in the interim, but L.L. tends to prefer fancy names for her pets. Any suggestions?
I checked the forum search and didn't see any other threads about names, so I'm offering this thread as a general place to discuss naming, if people feel like it. Maybe getting feedback from other players can help you avoid my mistakes. (Never trust a baby names website. Never.)

When in doubt, check the etymology for the most obvious word and see what that turns up.

A goat like that deserves a fine upstanding name. The name of a respected writer, perhaps, or a statesman. A name that is strong and sturdy, like German steel. A name that is suitably...caprine in nature.
How about Goathe?

Naming things is tricky and I still haven't got around to naming all my pets and companions. As I have several characters I decided to theme names for some of them. So, for example, one uses names of plants and flowers; another gods and goddesses; a third uses stars and constellations.
So far four of my characters have Ubergoats. Their names are Loosestrife; Cernunnos; Fornax and Agrippa.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Naming things is hard (one of the two hardest problems in Computer Science), so I developed a system and I stick with it.
Übergoaty McÜbergoatson.
And I will have you know, my use of this system predates Boaty McBoatface by eight years.

These are all fun suggestions! I think Edgar was my favorite. But Musky Lad had a charm that could only be surpassed by an even more incisively descriptive name for his goatly pungency, so I settled on Peruṅkāyam. That's the Tamil word for asafoetida. He will just have to settle for being the less loved of L.L.'s animal companions until his infernal sight sees him to a bath. Then, perhaps, he will be promoted to an Edgar.

Actually, Goaty McGoatface has a nice ring to it. I might have to name my goat that.

I'm not always great at coming up with names. I usually look up names that have similar meaning to the thing I am naming. That said, my Disappointing Marsh Hound is Hollander because Swamp Thing was Alex Holland so it just seemed like a nice twist.
