Over in the SOON thread, conversation turned to what characters people found attractive. And frankly, having our minds buried in the gutter is more pleasant than dealing with that Poor Edward character that's on the front page of the topic. But alas, topics are topics, and as fun as gutter-diving can be, t'wasn't the place for it.

So here's the place for it! Talk about who in London you'd romance given the choice. Obviously we have our Boneless Consorts, Artist's Models, Jewel Thieves, and Barbed Wits, Acclaimed Beauties, and sometimes both of them at once, but there's other, more unique characters such as Sinning Jenny or the Wry Functionary. Or maybe Feducci or Lettice, if that's your sort of thing. I dunno.

And, uh, please. Keep it PG-13. And no romancing the Sun, she's spoken for.

I for one don't really have eyes for anyone in particular here in the Neath. Except perhaps this one Alluring Accomplice that keeps winking at me wile working around the Orphanage.

Millicent Clathermont (and her Nadir echo) inspired me to spend several thousand Fate, invest a year and a half of my time into a mad quest, get Irrigo 77, grind out SMEN 777, write some of the finest fanfiction I've ever crafted and ultimately send my character NORTH.

Not bad for a character dismissed by her own creator as a glorified questionnaire.

Not exactly, but the Merciless Modiste does at one point offer to resculpt her, and it apparently wouldn't be the first time, so I'm guessing she just sculpted herself a fitting form.

Also, Sunless Sea reveals that her piracy and poetry are both explicitly liberationist - she fights and writes not for plunder, or fame, or for art's sake, but to free all oppressed people from tyranny.

Basically she's a nine-foot trans anarchist pirate and I adore her.

The Dowager Empress of Prussia is pretty great, and we can thank Sinning Jenny for that. If you're unfamiliar with the best ending of Empress's Shadow, here it is in my journal:
part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6

If you're not engaging in political dress-up with lesbian overtones, you're doing something wrong.

There are so many!

Oh lets see...who couldn't love Sinning Jenny? Supporting her for mayor, teaching in her finishing school, helping her seduce the Shadow, there is always a slight...pause...when mentioning her. Such a dear girl. Such a lovely necklace.

I confess rather a soft spot for the Last Constable. Such a strong, dedicated young woman. We never had an assignation before she had to leave, but my mind often goes to that Stiff-Backed Young Lady, shall we say?

While we spent the time using each other, how can I forget the Secular Missionary? Having to navigate the waters between too forward and simply platonic was difficult, in time I began to feel she was not quite honest. While she lost a bit of herself in our adventures, I hope to see her Renewed.

The one that got away would be the Silk Clad Expert. Why I almost did something foolish with a cultist who reminded me of her but no, I did not. It was a flight close to THE SUN with her, but emerged unscathed, if longing, and perhaps accessory to a spider napping.

But oh, my Celebrated Artist's Model, my first romance of the Neath, our paths kept crossing. Our romance in Veilgarden, where she listened to my Nocturnal poetry and I may or may not have booted her to the side for some Honey-Sipping Heiress, All those men I thrashed, our affair in the Shuttered Palace, Our meeting in the Side-Streets, I don't regret my marriage to that wonderful...marvelously tolerant...woman.

I do look forward to meeting more.

Do we ever get to learn how you did that?
Edit: Also why are you even considering romancing your dog? Go with the Missionary.

Hey, I've explained it before! More than once, even.

Sometime last spring there was a bug for a couple hours that removed the lock requirements of all cards with no unlock requirements. That includes the initial Secular Missionary card. though not the Firebrand card; that had C: Revolutionaries 5 as an unlock. Thanks to the bug I reset my Intimate with a Secular Missionary quality. Fortunately the card linking the Missionary and Firebrand requires only sufficient progress with her (and even more fortunately the option just needs Intimate with a Revolutionary Firebrand 10, not exactly 10). That let me play through the Nadir, I already had the Missionary so chose the Firebrand, and upgraded them both at this past FotER.

It just struck me that the options giving the Missionary and Firebrand companions just give their item rather than setting to exactly 1. As such, in the couple hours the bug was active I could have dumped a ton of Fate on action refreshes and card draws to play through the entire Nadir story twice and reset it again... I could have ended up with two of each of them, and had both the upgraded and normal versions at the same time!

That would have been very expensive, though. Probably for the best.

Not from Fallen London, but in Sunless Sea my captain got rather smitten over the Bright-Eyed Sequencer, which may have led him down a dangerous paths that almost gave Supremacy to the Dawn Machine.
But I mean, an exotic and beautiful golden-haired, bright-eyed young woman who imbues you with secret knowledge by kissing you on each eyelid with cryptic promises of great rewards to come for your help. What more can an adventurous gentleman of the zee wish for in a paramour? Maybe she will go for the lips next time I help this sentient doomsday sun of hers with a few small favours...

I am excited to see which beautiful but exceptionally dangerous or evil girl I will fall for in Sunless Skies wink

The Last Constable. She is precisely my type of character — strong-willed, unyielding, tragic.

Wilhelm is still single in the futile hopes of making this young woman his spouse. Perhaps, one day it will happen. If he can't have her, however, then he would rather stay alone.

Needless to say, I'm very much looking forward to the continuation of "Family and Law".

A delicious little topic, to be sure. London is chock full of beautiful and sensual characters. Some of my favourite imagined dalliances:

- Darling February, whom I've been meeting regularly in the Cave of the Nadir ever since I've sold her the location. And is she something - like fondling a sensuous, razor-sharp katana!
- The Captivating Princess. Hard as she may be, she truly is a gem, a quintessential femme fatale. For those so inclined, imagine the horrifyingly forbidden pleasure of a dalliance within the chambers of Red Honey.
- Her sister, the Generous Princess - for those who proved equally generous during the course of the Gift. The level of connection between the two of you must surely make every contact exquisite!
- The sisters from Hunter's Keep, whom I always find some time to visit when I'm off zailing. I particularly care for Cynthia, but all three serve as wonderously mysterious and tragically amorous characters. Though sometimes they seem more like a single character viewed through three distinct prisms...
- The Kashmiri Princess. Twice over, in fact.
- The Silk-Clad Expert. I got to say, even as a real-life arachnophobe, this lady offered perhaps the most effectively written seduction in the game for me. I would love to get to know what became of her eventually, or for her to have a bit more lasting presence in the game.

And of course, I second the appreciation for the Last Constable and the Secular Missionary, both of whom are great characters.

Lastly, undying love belongs to my eminently beautiful and surprisingly open-minded spouse, Celebrated Artist's Model. How supportive she is! How tolerant of all the above mentioned escapades! How nicely she herself gets along with my plethora of companions (especially the ruggedly charismatic Enigmatic Augur)...

Jenny is of course lovely and charming.

But I will always remember the raven-haired ninja nun who ambushed me in a dark alleyway with a spiked rosary. She really was remarkably pretty – if you have eyes for that sort of thing. And I do.

She also nursed me back to health after my tangle with the Vake. While calling me an idiot. Is it any wonder that I developed a bit of a crush?

Do PCs count? There's a few in this thread who made (and keep making) my characters' lives a lot more interesting, that's for sure.~

But as far as NPCs go, I'm...actually very curious about Poor Edward? The fact that he comes across as horribly creepy and increasingly menacing, without sounding like a try-hard...it makes me wonder what's up with him. Who knows, maybe underneath all that, there's...something less horrifying? Or maybe not. Maybe it's just layers upon layers of creep. Either way, I'm interested.

And then there's the Genial Magician. He's hot. And versatile.

It'll have to be something weird, I've been around humans all my life and I've grown quite bored of them.

My ship, I'll have to stay in polytheme at first until I figure out how to make the vitality more sticky. I'll talk to dark and savage first they can tell me whatever they do with the gloves, the king with a hundred hearts could probably work something out. Then we had have adventures sailing around the Neath with a hold full with blemmigans.

The uttershroom, why settle for one blemmigan when you can date all of them. I'd love to get to understand a truly aliens intelligence.

The principles or coral. Maybe discovering new board games will get it interesting in living again. If not I'll have to see it off.

    Regarding Mrs Plenty's marital status:
Her husband is Jervaise, Mr Wines's right-hand man. He appears in the Bag a Legend ambition. One of the ports in Sunless Skies is Polmear & Plenty's Inconceivable Circus, implying that Polmear may be Jervaise's last name. One of the carnival's outlying sky-islands is named Jervaise's Rest, so the fellow is presumably dead and buried there. So far, Sunless Skies contains no trace of Mrs Plenty herself, so her fate is unknown.
The initial text was enough to thoroughly seduce me. "The Pirate Poet wrote herself free" is such a lovely sentence, and her backstory and personality are fascinating. She is a former slave who fought for her freedom, and then she went on to write a trilogy of poems about that struggle on her own skin. She is brains and brawn, and I would really like to get to know her better (it may end up being the factor that pushes me to finally get Sunless Sea.) Plus, I have a lot of empathy for Clay People, and a soft spot for those among them who desire to be free. So there's a lot about her that appeals to me. (I told a friend who doesn't play Fallen London about her, and she replied "yeah, that's totally your type.smile")

I wish there was more content for the Pirate-Poet in Fallen London. My main is quite in awe of her, and Phiri being in awe of anyone is a feat nearly as impossible as my alt Jacqueline not flirting with someone.

Can I go with everyone? is that a option? I can hold a few salons, I have enough propoties.

If not, I like Lady Byron's idea. Or alternativly the Barbed Wit and the other one whose name I forgot for now.

Gul sometimes dreams about the Smiling Priest. The Chapel of Lights all bright in the dark, a snowy path to the warmth of a fire. A table set for two, with nothing but knives. Each of them both the eater and the eaten. But they're happily married, and he's very far away. Still, there's always the pilgrimage.

Well, if I didn't make it clear enough my favourite character of the entire game, and one person my character is truly smitten with, is the Captivating Princess. My character doesn't even care that she is royal, its her mystique, beauty, charm, and power of personality, and yes her very wicked streak of iniquity that makes her so desirable to Vena.
I am always so excited to see her in the game, and my character is quite proud to have written a story that brought a tear to her eye and have had her show up at their salon.
I am still holding out hope that someday she will be more than an acquaintance (that is outside of the one destiny I will not pick, stupid Liberation of Night destiny, why did you have to be the one with a relationship to the Princess?!).

Heh, I like her enough that like Passionario it lead my to write a fanfic, in my case an expanded and slightly altered version of the Gift storyline. Which, for those interested, can be found here -

cathyr19355 was once enamoured of the Revolutionary Firebrand. Then she actually got to know him, in the Nadir, and realized that she was not the man for her.

So she married the Cultured Attache. He doesn't appeal to her sense of romance, but he's solid and reasonably compatible. For intellectual stimulation, she secretly visits the Barbed Wit, though again romance is no longer involved. My character has sworn off romance, I think.

There is a remarkably small amount of tsunderes in London, isn't there? I suppose the society just isn't cut out for them. Ah, well, at least there's some.

Is it still Yandere if its possible to murder someone with the knowledge that they'll most likely be back in a few hours or days? Barring of course going through the extra effort to inflict true death.

I do like Lady black if we're including sunless sea people, additionally the pirate poet. Not romanticly interested, but the heart metal Acolyte is a curious figure. There is an extremely good chance i'd end up spending my life in scrimshaw, going insane as one of those archivists.

I would love to date Mr. Pages, as I find him very endearing, or Mr. Hearts because... ahem . If you think that is madness, I will let you know that I romanced the Once-Dashing Smuggler to find out what is underneath a Tomb-Colonist's bandages. FOR SCIENCE. But currently, I am madly in love with the Last Constable.

Yeah I like their special expressions, like "Hell of seven cats" (or something alike I don't recall exactly what's the term), and of course their songs. What makes rats special to me is not only that they have no communication barrier with Londoners. Cats can also speak, but are nothing like them: they either make their appearance around the shady Duchess or some other sinister places, or haunt you in Parabola.

Yeahhhh, I know where I'm spending my Masquing next Feast. The Liberationism worries me, honestly, but I CAN OVERLOOK THAT!

From what I understand it extends to any major countermeasures, not just murder, anyhow.

In fact, I think the Neathy environment might actually be somewhat conducive to the creation of yanderes. The Bazaar probably adores them.

My lady will go along with anyone as long as it benefits her in the end. Even though she is married to the/a Jewel Thief, that definitely doesn't stop her either. Gender doesn't matter but she rather they be as human as possible. Extra parts and slime or stench are quite a turn off for someone who claims to be sophisticated.
