Splitting Diamonds

I noticed that Fabulous Diamonds can be split for 25 Magnificent Diamonds for a nominal fee but as Fabulous Diamonds can only be attained via Fate the Wikis have no information about the fate of a Diamond that has undergone this treatment.
Would someone be able tell me what the success and/or failure is like? It would be greatly appreciated.
