penultimate: 50 souls + 5 contracts (+ take the option) ~~ 2.8 actions, less than 1 action per favour (if it gives 1 favour per raction).
We have a word that something on the card will at least get looked at (and likely nerfed) once all the factions are renownified, but not what or how much.

I just returned from an absence of over a year, I stopped playing a month or so after Seeking returned. What mechanics have changed in my absence? I'm gonna try to get caught up on lore, but there isn't really a great place to do that lol since it's so vague and hidden sometimes, but I'm just wondering if there's any big updates I missed.

Well there have been various exceptional stories, and Feducci was elected mayor. Lodgings actions are currently being overhauled (like getting help with menaces, and doing social actions for second chances).

I'm currently trying to recover one of my character's souls via the raise the black flag option, but I find I'm drawing the card pretty rarely, especially since I have to keep making port to stop the deck getting crowded with troubled waters. Would I be better coming back to London and just hoping for One's Public? Anyone have any preferred soul recovery methods (other than Fate)?

The black flag card isn't a very good Bundle source, because the suspicion increase limits the usefulness of "a corvette of Her Majesty's Navy".
Edit: the Capering Relicker does not have your soul. It's still worth advancing SiC where possible, though.
Along with the bundle from "one's public", it's also possible to recover it through "a gift from the Capering Relicker". Figure out which opportunity cards in your deck provide Someone Is Coming, and play them whenever they show up.

Which option on that card provides a bundle?
I assume it's one of the Fate locked options, since no bundle is recorded for any other option on the wiki.

I assume they meant the "You just put it down for a moment" option on the Relicker card, but it just gives you some randos' souls, not The soul. Not the important soul, your own soul. Unless there's some rare success option I don't know about.

One of the wiki comments claim to have gotten their soul back from the Capering Relicker, but it seems dubious.
Although, if there were a rare success, it might not be noticed for a long time. Not everyone's lost their soul, and those that have are likely also PoSI who have better options on that card or spend their Someone is Coming robbing rats.

I've recovered my soul 5-6 times in the past 2.5 years through the one's public card. I don't go to zee much but when I do, I always indulge in piracy. Never got my soul that way.

I have a number of social actions that lead to dead ends. It doesn't offer any more information than "needs qualities"! Luckily this is just with my alts but still an annoyance!

I noticed today that somehow I have acquired Hell renown 2. I have studiously avoided hell contacts both before and after the conversion, have no bright brass skull and always call in favours immediately. I haven't used the carnival option either.
Any ideas where it could have come from? Is there perhaps an Exceptional story that sneakily gives renown hell?

Story options now give it out in an organic manner . . .
It's not quite as lenient as Connection by any means, but you do get renown for various factions for certain choices now.

There are a very few non-repeatable story conclusions that give Renown: Hell. It's not really grindable except with a Bright Brass Skull. It's also not something that looks like you should be able to stumble into it; you're definitely dealing with Hell if you're getting renown.
It's possible there was a glitch in the transition. Those have been consistently a touch wonky.

Okay hallelujah. The only step that takes favors is from visions of the surface to love stories. I can survive that.
(well love stories to bazaar permits does too but I just grind those with Wilmot's end/war of assasins)

If you mean the 40 Renown item then on the Renown thread it was said to be Corpsecage Island. I don't have first-hand knowledge of this, but that's what people are saying.
