I've heard of an upcoming seasonal event called The Fruits of the Zee Festival, and I was wondering if I could do anything to prepare for it? Could someone please provide some info on what the festival is and how to prepare? Thank you in advance!

Thank you! As I roleplay the character, her goals change and the mysteries get to her. A testament to great writing, I guess.

How many actions does it take to use the ferry? Can it also be used for return trips?

The ferry is significantly faster than a regular trip and the cost is far less than actually sailing there. As long as you traveled to Mutton Island by ferry you are eligible for one return trip, so non-PoSI can't get stranded there.

Another thing that wasn't mentioned, just be sure to not pump up all your quirks. Some items require a lower catch level which is easier to obtain with a lower RB value.

You cannot become a Judgement. You can, perhaps, become something else.

Changing your Destiny does cost Fate on top of the cost if you wish to choose a Fate-locked Destiny.

You go fishing near Mutton Island. As Kaijyuu said, you need either high quirks or the named items for successful fishing. You can then turn in your "Strange Catches" for several unique items (at least, that's how it was in previous years. Presumably, there'll be new items again this year.)

We also expect our new mayor to make an appearance at the Festival.

Have a look at this thread if you like.

Edit: You don't need your own ship to go to Mutton Island, the festival is reached by a ferry service.

It's worth noting that with the ferry service to and from Mutton Island, the festival is a great time to grind Renown: The Docks or Stormy-Eyed, if one is so inclined.

Er, you don't actually have to leave between carousels. I was just grinding some Stormy last week and stayed on for several rounds.

How so? Can players with those qualities get more from Mutton Island? Or does Mutton Island provide opportunities to increase those qualities?
Opportunities to increase. One of the storylets that advances the Mutton Island carousel increases Stormy-Eyed (you have to have at least Stormy-Eyed 1 to play it), and is to my knowledge the only grindable source of that quality.

One of the options to end the Mutton Island carousel grants a Favour: The Docks. Since taking the ferry is much faster than traveling in your own ship, it is easier to go to Mutton Island, grind up seven Favours: The Docks, and return to London to cash in for Renown than it otherwise is, though you're still looking at a couple dozen actions per Favour.

@Kaijyuu, I believe it's just the research expedition islands and the Iron Republic that kick you back out to Zee after each cycle.

So, I was wondering if it was possible to grind Running Battle in Fallen London first, then use it for fishing in Mutton Island during the Festival?

No. Setting out on a fishing trip resets your Running Battle.

Though occasionally it is wrong, it isn't in this case.

Thank you for all the responses!

I also heard that you can turn in your strange catch for a destiny. Any tips on choosing one? And would it make sense to go to Mutton Island one day before the event starts to save actions ?

Destinies have a dual purpose. They have a roleplaying purpose, by allowing you to select your character's probable future and display it on your profile. And they also have a mechanical purpose, providing a permanent small bonus to one or two stats. Here's a guide listing all the destinies.

Don't worry if you haven't got Partial Maps, Zee Stories, and Map Scraps - you can turn your catch into those items at the Festival.

You can also get the quirks for successful fishing while fishing

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.

No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Make sure to deal with your menaces before leaving for the Festival. You can lower your menaces on the Island, but it takes time and fish, so best to have them at zero when you arrive.

For Destinies... Silver is about Dreams, chilly has to do with the High Wilderness, jeweled involves the Elder Continent, obscure features the Great Work, and "abyssal" takes you face to face with the secrets under the Zee.

You can get Docks favors and Stormy Eyed cp at mutton island, and due the festival you don't have to go back out to zee between each carousel.

Not much for this one other than getting your quirks up, since you use them on fishing. Having some Partial Maps, Zee Stories, and Map Scraps can be nice too.

Waitaminute. Can't one acquire a SMEN candle from these holidays?

When choosing a Destiny, you can get St Destin's candle by choosing the Torment Destiny. But only if you have SMEN at 35 and St Cerise's candle (and your own ship).

There is another way to get St. Destins too, if you'd rather not consign yourself to eternal torment.

There are several ways, though not the 7 which were promised.

But if you want to go NORTH, then getting the Torment Destiny is by far the easiest way to get St Destin's candle.

Failing a quirk check on fiahing increases that quirk, and you'll have plenty of time. Plus, while the festivals material rewards compare unfavourably to the best high-end choices in London, if you're not a PoSI they're probably at least competitive, so as a newish player you can spend the entire festival on Mutton Island without feeling like an asshole. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
