Blurry text, assistance required

I have recently purchased «Zubmariner» and decided to give the game another go. Unfortunately, almost immediately I encountered a significant issue — the in-game text is noticeably blurry. My eyes are pretty bad, and I am definitely not willing to strain them any further.
I have contacted the developers, but so far no working solution has been offered, and it’s been six days since the last reply. Frankly, I am not hopeful.
So, is there any way to fix the problem? I would love to play «Sunless Sea» again but the blurry text is very exhausting for my eyes.
OC: Win 7 Native resolution: 1280x1024
Some of the options that I’ve tried already:
UI Scale: x1 Font Scale: x1 Resolution: 1280x1024 http://i.imgur.com/q5Cyh3Y.jpg
UI Scale: x1 Font Scale: x1 Resolution: 1280x768 http://imgur.com/a/jmKwm
UI Scale: x1.2 Font Scale: x1.4 Resolution: 1280x1024 http://i.imgur.com/cPk4h7l.jpg (fairly clear Gazetteer text, blurry notifications)
UI Scale: x1 Font Scale: x1.5 Resolution: 1280x1024 http://imgur.com/a/hS2zQ

Depending on your graphic card, you may have external anti-aliasing that blurs the text. It may not be the correct solution, but it is worth a try.

I could not see any difference at all until you put the two samples side-by-side.
Googling for "windows blurry text" gives several results which are all basically this advice: (src - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2900023/some-desktop-applications-may-appear-blurred-on-high-dpi-displays)
Disable DPI virtualization for the application. To do this, right-click the application’s shortcut and then click Properties. On the Compatibility tab, select Disable Display Scaling On High DPI Settings, and then click OK. This causes the text in the application to appear clearer. However, if the application does not correctly handle high DPI settings, this procedure may have adverse side effects such as truncated text and incorrectly sized graphical elements.
If it's something broken in the Sunless Sea font scaling then this might compensate for it. edited by slickriptide on 7/16/2017

Out of curiosity - have you tried adjusting your Cleartext settings in the Windows font settings? Yes, I tried. I didn't notice any significant difference.
There is an update on the issue.
I've recently called upon a friend to make sure the problem is not on my end of things. Her monitor has the same native resolution as mine (1280x1024), so I thought it would be useful to make a comparison. Well, turns out, her text is not nearly as blurry, and I think I have found the reason for that. My friend is using a GOG version of "Sunless Sea", but — more importantly — it is an older version of the game. Below is the comparison between the current version (2.2.2.3130) and the older version (2.2.2.3109). These screenshots are made on the same PC with absolutely no difference in settings of the OS or the game itself.
The font is scaled up to x1.7 (because I prefer it that way and it makes the blur more recognizable).

I believe it should more or less prove the innocence of my PC in this whole affair. Typically, I would contact the developers again, but I am a bit lukewarm to the idea at the moment — it's been around nine days since the last reply in my current ticket. I do understand that "Failbetter Games" is a small studio, and I still adore the setting, so I won't refund the DLC. Hopefully, the issue gets fixed in the near future.
I have this EXACT same issue, and it's an issue that only became an issue after I bought the Zubmariner DLC. I played a fair amount of Sunless Sea before that and the text was always sharp, but now I get the same exact same blurry-ness as what you have linked in the examples above. It's stopped me playing the game because I couldn't sort it and it just put a strain on my eyes. In a text heavy game that's not what I want.
I really hope the developers sort it out and go back to whatever text overlay / font / system they used pre-Zubmariner.
