Question about social actions now.

So, I've noted that social actions seem to work differently lately. One thing that always annoyed me is the fact that you need to be IN London for many of them to work. I was wondering if that changed and if I can not accomplish actions at, say, Port Carnelian or something.

I think social actions have always required one to be in London.

I was always under the impression most social actions were undertaken via the post, or required one to be there in person . . . like you can't be in a cafe and drink coffee with someone across a sea, just like you can't play chess with someone pre-Internet without either being there in person or having access to your post . . . if someone sends you a gift, it'll likely be to your home address, which is where it waits for you until you get back.
In game, it actually makes a lot of sense.
Edit: What doesn't make sense is people being unable to send you invitations; even if you can't accept (which makes sense), you should still be able to have them waiting for you back home.
