How does it work with menace states such as the Royal Beth and having a reservation as a lodging? When I get sent there by my nightmares can I stay in my own room?

It doesn't interact at all. And you would be in no state to tell anyway.

What is the fastest or the most profitable way to get to the Tomb-Colonies? My stats are almost maxed out, and I already have been banished from the court.

Action-wise I'd recommend drawing cards that give favours and Scandal: Shaking 'hands' with rubbery men (3 CP), afternoons of mischief (2 CP) and attending brass embassy lectures (1 CP). Once you hit Scandal 6 you should be able to wear items for another +2, and get exiled to the Tomb-Colonies.
EDIT: For people in a real hurry I recommend drinking Black Wings Absinthe. Don't bother sharing, and you'll get 5 CP Scandal all to yourself. If you start from 0 and wear items you'll get the first level (1 CP) for free, so just four bottles would take you to level 6 (21 CP). The truly desperate can always try some hot wine at Mrs Plenty's Refreshment Pavilion. But apparently it could take 40 Actions or so to get 20 CP. ________________________________ edited by Gillsing on 6/21/2017

Does anyone know if the second chance gaining social actions take into account your base stats or your modified stats? In other words, if I want to gain more second chances, will it improve my odds if I unequip everything but a talkative rattus faber?

Almost everything that considers stats uses the modified stats, so equipping everything you have that has stat penalties is indeed your best bet.

If you have a high Hedonist (12+) and your plant is sufficiently developed to produce Counterfeit heads of John the Baptist, then there is an option if you click on one of your heads that will send you directly to the Tomb-Colonies. It's instant if you already have the plant, the heads, and sufficient Hedonist. But will take you a merry time (months, I imagine) if you have none of those things.

I've heard about something called &quotSMEN&quot. How bad could it be?
*Hears massive mob barging on my door*
*holds the door shut* I'm kidding, I'm kidding!!
My actual question is this: Are there any forced punishments from Seeking The Name? Forced wouldn't mean a storylet you willing go through, but rather An un-discardable card that's only purpose is to cause detrimental effects... and also that Forgotten Quarter soulless thing. edited by Torchwood202 on 6/22/2017 edited by Torchwood202 on 6/22/2017

No, but you may end up with Obscurity and the Soul part plus... the chains(?). The other two can be removed (via Flint ES and... forgot, sorry ), but no extra penalties (yet).
Other issue may be that you must give up most of your fortune to grind SMEN up to 77 via Winking. I think it's doable w/o it, but I'm not even thinking of doing the math for materials required to reach 77!
Cheers and wish you good luck!

Unless you manage to sell your soul after staining it (a rather difficult thing to do accidentally and something you are warned against doing) and then visit the forgotten quarter nothing that Seeking does is a surprise. It's a vicious story that requires you to give up much. But it's honest in it's viciousness. You never do anything without prior warning of the consequences.

I known that before the conversion of Renown Great Game to Connected Great Game. It was a great way to get Hard Earned Lesson Note and Hastily scrawled Note aka shadowy and dangerous second chances. How do you get those now? My patron card gives me Sudden Insight(the Watchful second chances). Thanks for the help.

Social actions are generally seen as the fastest way. In your lodgings, you can Attend to Matters of Shadowy/Dangerous/etc, and gain second chances with the first option.
The Church/Great Game conflict card still exists though obviously you won't see it quite as often. Also there's the Give a Gift card, which will give you second chances with sufficiently high (8+) Hedonist quirk.

Will the sitting mayor (Jenny) endorse a candidate in the election? That would be exciting.

Was Connected: Hell meant to auto-convert to Favours and Renown? I got the Favours, and have converted them to Renown manually, but on Ten Carmine, I still have 67 Connected: Hell levels sitting there, and I can't find a way to do anything about them.

My alt just saw:
"You may later be able to upgrade the Firebrand companion, or make him your Spouse."
I recorded it as a journal entry, as I can't quite remember if that's always been the same, but - in case anything has changed - is there a way to now make him a spouse? I feel like this has been asked for a long time now, so it'd be great if it were finally an option.
