I wonder why FBG chose to cap notability at 15. Why not just leave it up to how many waves one can make in a week to cap it naturally?

Because the ones behind Slowcake's Exceptionals have decided that there is a limit to how extravagant someone's entry can be? And that not even someone with Notability 20+ should retain their Notability 15 entry after five weeks of inadequate activity? Which would be quite possible if someone was allowed to get to Notability 20 and then lost one point every week they didn't get enough Making Waves.
Also, since it's possible to use Notability to raise one of the four main stats, which are capped, it just makes sense to also have a cap for Notability, to keep things under control. Otherwise people could gain incredibly high levels of Notability with certain Fate-based salon options. Which would be quite unbalanced.

Now, perhaps when the stat cap raises again, we might see notability cap increase? Course that would be sometime after the conclusion of ambitions and wave 3 storylines...

Do you think there's going to be another stat cap increase? It's been at 200 for a very long time, FBG basically switched to an alternate method of progression rather than state cap increases.

Possibly, but I think they'll need to add enough new content that would still be challenging at the higher cap. I think it more likely that there will be an expansion in the Notability cap first.

They haven't filled out the upper levels with content yet, so I'm not sure they'll boost the cap past 200 anytime soon. Most people hit all the content boundaries with stats around 100-160, depending on the stat.
