Why not? Fallen London's factions are not symmetrical at all. They all have wildly different ways to get favours, with a few standard ways (their faction cards) being the exception and not the rule.

Especially those poor Great Game guys and gals, who cannot party with me anymore. I gotta pull away those Screams from their party somehow, otherwise it isn't a very relaxing meeting! Oh, and also get the wine. Cannot forget the wine.

Okay, so I've saved up a bit of money and I'm thinking of buying something Persuasive for the clothing slot. I can afford the Exquisite Ivory Gown or the Parabola-Linen Frock, and the former is looking like a better purchase from here. It's cheaper and has better Persuasive. The secondary amount of Shadowy you get with the latter isn't really worth anything to me, I already have a good shadowy outfit. So is there any reason for me to buy the more expensive, but mechanically worse Parabola-Linen Frock?
I am under the impression that it can be converted into something snazzy in the Cave of the Nadir (haven't got there yet, I'm lagging behind dreadfully in Watchful pursuits), but this something snazzy doesn't seem to be mechanically better than the Exquisite Ivory Gown either, from a purely Persuasive point of view. Is there any reason to shoot for the Strange Shore frock? Does it have any inherent properties that make it worth sacrificing those Persuasive points for other than coolness? I presume it doesn't have cards or anything, clothing doesn't usually do that. Possibly options on a card, but I haven't seen any so far.

If you want to be a Legendary Charisma you need either a Parabola Linen Frock or Suit. So if you don't want to choose that specialization, as you say, the Exquisite Ivory Gown has better persuasive.

Sorry RL means I am not a very active player at the moment. No social actions unless you are prepared to wait and definitely no sparring or other mult-action things.
No Calling Cards or boxed cats please. Will take dupes on the affluent photographers. Other social invitations welcome. Parabolan Kittens usually available, send me an in-game social action saying you want one and I will get one to you as soon as possible.

Ah, hadn't spotted that. That's something to bear in mind. Thanks.

Some things are there just to be there. It's expensive for lore-reasons.
Also there are a tiny number of multi-skill checks in the game, though I don't recall if any of them are persuasive/shadowy.
I picked up a few to upgrade in the nadir for collector's value. edited by Kaijyuu on 6/12/2017

How can I lose my last five levels of society?
If I throw the Amanuensis out on his oily ear one more time, I'll lose my very last point of nobility, which I need to keep for now . . . I have a feeling this will be SO much easier when it's converted, but that could be months from now. Is there any easier way to nuke it?

Want a sip of Hesperidean Cider? Send me a request in-game. Here's an_ocelot's guide how. (Most social actions are welcome. Please no requests to Loiter Suspiciously and no investigations of the Affluent Photographer)

I'm at SMEN 25 working on St Beau's Candle, is there any point in keeping Unaccountably Peckish up anymore? I only seem to get SMEN increases from the Knave of Regrets and otherwise it just clogs my deck. Do I need it for further SMEN content or can I reduce it?

It's still a valid method to raise SMEN until around 28.
If it bugs you, my trick was to reduce SMEN to zero using refreshments in the Labyrinth.
Then - when Time the Healer comes, removing your Marsh-Mired - go to Flit and use the cat option to raise Unaccountably Peckish up to ten. At that point, make sure you have a five-card lodging and you should hopefully get the "Knight of Feasts" first try (or not long after a few tries) - this gets you up to 28. Then use a special option on the Eaten section of your Lodgings to get to 29. After that, I think you pretty much need to head to Winking Island. So - until 28 - Peckish is very useful, when properly managed.
There's a full guide that helps here: http://community.failbettergames.com/topic22442-first-steps-on-the-seeking-road.aspx

Awesome thanks! I was wondering where the SMEN stat cap was from UA cards. Cheers!
