• Hello one and all. I come seeking aid in this world of ours. I have hit a wall, a very firm wall, and I am unsure of where to go from here. I will list below my traits/attributes and some of the things I have done or what I have become in my time in the city. Please note that I am an Exceptional Friend for the next 25 days and I have already gone through the story of the Valkyrie. I also only have 11 fate to my name. I am considering possibly getting more so I can enter the Soul Trade or follow another story but I have yet to make up my mind due to ennui.

Person of Some Importance: A Significant Individual
A member of the Young Stags' Club
I own a yacht, respectable landau, a regular velocipede, Basalt Gymnasium
Currently trying to gain Favours with Criminals specifically to undertake a Fashionable Caper.
I have been to Wilmot's End and the Foreign Office, performed on various days of the week at Mahogany Hall. I have sailed the zee and seen many locations, including visiting Dr. Vaughn for my Ambition and Polythreme to annoy Jack some more. I found and explored the Cave of Nadir on a small handful of occasions (although I have not yet sold its location). I am still unwelcome in the University. I am probably missing plenty more of my story for those interested. If there are those who need more information to aid me on my journey, please do not hesitate to ask. I am more than willing to share as I do not wish to give up this life so soon.

Well, that's pretty much it story-wise, until next update to Ambition, Election, or something FBG decides to surprise us with. You can now max out your gear, stats, specialize, overcap, grind for Goat, get your Quirks to the maximum, play around with Fidgeting Writer, read lore...give yourself some improbably ridiculous task and grind to it, for funsies!

The main content for max characters is the Exceptional Friend stories that come monthly. If that's insufficient or you can't afford it, yeah, you've got all the things Mat mentioned.

I did something once with the Fidgeting Writer. As for other things, I'm not exactly sure where to even begin. I see things about the goat and I'm intrigued by the animal breeding (I've bred the hyena and the plated seal, don't think I can get the others without fate?)I've been grinding a few items here and there and managed to raise my Notability to 5 in doing so. I am entirely unsure of the best items or what is even worth grinding.

As far as items to shoot for, pick something your character would covet. You could also get back into the University, get married, crack the Correspondence, or become the Governor of Port Carnelian.

For items, you should look through wiki. Theological Husbandry (animal breeding in Labyrinth) is fun story that is Fate-Locked and definitely worth it. For Overgoat, that is about two-three months worth of grind, for companion that gives you huuge Watchful bonus and unlocks rather useful options on Overgoat card. You might want to look into Tier three Professions that interest you.

There is always Seeking Mr. Eaten's Name. Taking that storyline to its natural conclusion will effectively make your character unplayable, but if you're truly bored with the other things still remaining to you in Fallen London, you may find it a good finale.

I am a pickpocket currently for my profession. My guess is level 1 based on the wiki entries. Do I have to quit that in order to expand to different tiers or am I missing something?

Pickpocket is a training profession, so you will have to quit it, the actual professions are found on various cards you can draw, and can be upgraded to the next tier of their branch without quitting.

As has been mentioned, at you've done most of the main stories. Have you visited The Mind of a Long Dead God? That one's pretty far off the beaten path. Then there's all manner of end game grinding. Couriers Footprint, Goats, Cider, etc. Those are all basically just bragging rights though. If you're looking for a solid chunk of story content there's always Seeking. It's quite the journey.

If you haven't returned to the university, you're missing a whole range of places at zee (scientific expeditions). And have you got an Iron Republic safe conduct?

Well, that depends. Do you want to max out your stats and collect all the best gear? Do you want to have very high quirks? Do you want at least one of every item or quality you can manage? Do you want to raise some particular quality you like to ridiculous levels? Do you want bragging rights?* The best things to grind are the ones which you will enjoy.

*The classic bragging rights grinds are things like an Overgoat, an Ubergoat, Hesperidean Cider, the Heptagoat, reaching Scholar of the Correspondence 21... There's a thread somewhere around here that's just lots of potential goals to set yourself when you're bored, hopefully someone has a link. (Edit: and Skinnyman has one too.) Just making sure you've explored all the stories and locations is a good starting point though.

I have not been back to the University. I was stuck on figuring out how. I also definitely wish to crack the Correspondence Stones.
Good to know about the professions. I noticed there were others but, again, was unsure of what exactly to do. I know half the fun is figuring the path out for oneself but when you reach a point where options aren't clear, it becomes troublesome.

I definitely appreciate all the help.

To get back to the University, you will have to go to Zee.
Trips to Corpsecage and Bullbone Islands and Grunting Fen will get you research notes of various kinds. Enough of these, and you can cash them in at your Lodgings for the necessary academic street cred. They have a few other uses, too.
If I read the Wiki correctly, I need 500 pages of each type of note, yes? I had enough of each at one point but the option has yet to appear in the Organise Your Research heading in my Lodgings.

Yes, you need 500 pages of each. The mission in itself will occupy you for quite some time. It wull also open up various places to visit at the zee. Then you can upgrade your profession to the top tier. Then you can obtain an Iron Republic Safe Code, and travel there too. Then you can go for an Overgoat, then a second Overgoat and then breed them together to get an Ubergoat, which gives +30 to Watchful - useful for expeditions in the Forgotten Quarter. While you are at that, you can also grind Renown with several factions, which grants unique items. Have you solved the Affair of the Box yet?

Yes, I did solve the Affair of the Box already. For an Overgoat, it's all about Echoes, yes?
